The place did not feel very lively when I arrived, and I noticed there were less than four teenagers around the entire time I was there, which made the atmosphere feel a bit empty. I was not expecting anything fancy, but I did expect the basics to feel a little more comfortable and updated. The room had a few issues that stood out to me. Some parts of it looked older and could really use a refresh, and a couple of things did not work as smoothly as they should have. It was not awful, but it did make the stay feel less relaxing than I wanted. The noise level also made it a little harder to settle in, since I could hear people outside and in nearby rooms during the night. It was not overwhelming, just noticeable enough to be distracting. The service felt a bit rushed, which surprised me. I do not need a lot of attention, but I do appreciate when staff seem engaged or welcoming. Instead, everything felt a little distant, like they were just trying to get through the day. It did not ruin the experience, but it did not help it either. Even though the stay was manageable overall, the inconveniences added up enough that I could not fully enjoy my time there. That is why I am giving it 2 stars. I do not think the place is hopeless or beyond fixing. In fact, I really want this location to improve on itself. With some updates, better maintenance, and a bit more attention to the guest experience, it could become a much more comfortable and enjoyable place to stay. I hope they take steps in that direction because the potential is definitely there.

Update on my "Best" Western La Mesa San Diego experience: As noted in a previous review, I reported…read moremold in the room. After checking out and staying in a different room for three more nights, I noticed an unauthorized charge on my debit card. Upon reporting the charge, I was told I would hear from the manager "Today or tomorrow". This was two weeks ago and though the unauthorized charge was refunded, I have yet to hear from hotel management. Reaching out to the "Best" Western customer service line proved to be an absolute waste of my time. Each call resulted in being told that the hotel had "three to five days" to resolve the situation. It has been eighteen days since the initial complaint, eleven days since the first time I was told "three to five days" and eight days since the second time I was told "three to five days. The only thing customer service is capable of doing is give me the number to the hotel, which suggests I am on my own in this matter. I have over thirty years of cumulative guest service and public relations experience and this is not only the absolute worst guest service I have dealt with personally, it is also among the worst I have ever observed. The only positive I can glean from this situation is that I know I will never again set foot on a "Best" Western property. Even if I did, I would have to worry about the horrible guest service and I have no desire to repeat the experience. My advice to those considering staying at this location: you're better off trying your luck sleeping in one of the homeless encampments along the freeway. At least there they don't charge you money to stay in a location that could potentially cause serious health issues for you and your family...

So we let the Air going on while we went out for dinner. I also spray some air freshener (i am always bringing if i am staying in hotel). We came back few hours later the room smells good. We had no problem after that. The staff are friendly and helpful. oh the shower has no pressure at all. So showering takes twice as long to get rid of the soap and shampoo. Only for a nught I won't complain much. Nonetheless was a nice stay and will do it again.

House keeping is offered every other day, but I know some Hampton locations have it daily. AYCE continental hot breakfast is included, but only from 6-9AM on weekdays and 7-10am on weekends. They had an area for hard boiled eggs the first 2 days but stopped offering it sadly There was no option for dairy free milk (like almond milk), only 2% low fat milk. Hot foods rotated between scrambled eggs or mini omelette and sausages or patty's. There was a station to make your own waffle as well as cereal and bread. There were some significantly good things about Hampton Inn Poway though. I arrived an hour before check in and was able to leave my stuff with front desk staff. The staff and housekeeping is friendly. Rooms were big, quiet and did not have an odor. Fitness room had dumbbells ranging from 5 lbs to 80 lbs, a treadmill, peloton, and an elliptical. Didn't get to check out the pool outside but the laundry room was clean

As noted in other reviews the rooms are small- my husband and I are NOT small, we managed! The tall bed was comfortable and there was a helpful step placed in the closet so I did not have to resort to a high jump to get in. The bed was comfy. Breakfast was ok- I have a food allergy and staff had to scramble to accommodate it. I didn't think of it when we made the reservations, so that is on me. STAFF WAS AMAZING! Warm, friendly and filled with recommendations on where to eat ( dinner- and of course APPLE PIE!) We all agreed (we were traveling with others) that we would like to come and stay again. When you take into account the afternoon tea and a full breakfast, it's downright budget friendly!

My wife and I stayed in the Julian Gold Rush Hotel for two nights few weeks ago. Here are some pros…read moreand cons: Pros: Price, our room was $155 / night. That would probably pay for parking in San Diego hotels. This is a historic building and an interesting attraction in its own right. Breakfast is included and it was terrific. Food is expensive in Julian. A similar breakfast at a local restaurant would be $20. The staff are great. I met several day managers and the night security guy. They are all terrific people. It is really like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. These is no TV. I think that belongs with the pros. The location is great. Right in the middle of town. Cons: Our room was tiny. Really tiny. Use the drawers and closets for your stuff so you don't trip over it. A side effect of the smallness of the room is that the heater/ac struggles to control the temperature . The design of any heater/ac unit presumes a room volume. The room is so tiny, the heater's built in control parameters are way off. Parking, parking is "street parking" and on a weekend, it's every man for himself. You may have to drag your bags a block or two. ---------------------- So would we stay there again? Absolutely. I would probably spend a bit more and get one of the small number of larger rooms, if available. If you want to relax and read, I cannot think of a better place. One thing I should mention, if you attempt to make reservations on line, there are half a dozen fake web sites imitating the hotel. They are put up by a dodgy travel company. They are really good imitations. I even an experienced computer user could be fooled. It is best just to call them.
