Over the years, this has become a must stop for my family while visiting Tulum. Specifically for the shrimp ceviche.... Family staple. It's served fresh, flavorful, and generous portion. We also enjoyed the hamburger with fries. First time I've had a hot dog on my hamburger and it was actually good. Non-alcohol Piña colada was refreshing and delicious. The flavor was so real and non-artificial. This spot is enjoyed by the locals and everyone is welcoming. Staff are friendly and attentive. I love how you can sit outside and also inside. Our party was fairly melty from the heat so we scored a table underneath a ceiling fan.
The food was delish fresh, seasoned & cooked to perfection. Authentic Pina Colada made with all fresh ingredients. The shrimp service plate was a small & the juice was so good we ate it with chips. Chicken tacos was delicious. This is true Authentic Mexican food that the locals eat at. They have an outside covered patio area. Street parking is available. The prices are very reasonable. Friendly & courteous staff. Definitely recommended and will return the next time I visit PDC. 5
In Tulum with the fam and was hankering for some seafood. This place highly recommended by a local gentleman. The restaurant is bright and clean and we were seated quickly as there were not many patrons There was no air conditioning but we were seated by some great fans that cooled us down but blew every napkin around. We had then noticed the cash only sign so my husband had to walk to the bank on the corner to obtain some cash while we waited. They placed chips and bean dip on the table which was great. The beans were flavorful. We ordered a big platter that came with lobster, crab, octopus salad, shrimp, fried fish fillet, fried snapper, calamari, and rice and beans. The presentation was very nice but besides that, it fell short in a big way. Everything was very overcooked and rubbery and it all came out lukewarm. Had they paid closer attention to cooking time and served it right when it was done, I am sure it would have been better. My son got steak tacos and he said they were nothing to rave about either. My daughter ordered nachos with no meat but you had to still pay for the meat so we got it in on the side. Our server was attentive and tried his best.
I have come to El Camello twice and it is a neighborhood staple. You get a huge plate of food for a decent price with chips and all the sides. I got the octopus al diablo, the other flavors are also good, and this is a known local hangout. Great low key tulum town vibe and quick service.
The shrimp cocktail was terrible- I'm pretty sure they just boiled the shrimp and then added some sort of tomato juice mix- would definitely not recommend. It hardly had anything else and it was served in a talk glass, so it was very hard to mix. If you look closely, you can see that it wasn't even mixed together completely.The grilled shrimp was ok and so was the Paloma I ordered, nothing special.
I've been wanting to try this seafood place but never get to it when I'm visiting. Located on the main strip in La Veleta, this is a nice local vibe. I had the mixto ceviche (small) which was enough for 2-3 people as an appetizer. I had the grilled garlic fish for main dish. Everything was fresh and tasty. Service was good and quick. I recommend for a simple and inexpensive seafood meal in Tulum.
Now this is a spot all the locals frequent! We heard by word-of-mouth that this spot was truly authentic, and had some of the best, flavorful food in all of Tulum. We went to order a couple of drinks, but the main star of the show was that ceviche I ordered. They have different sizes and options for your ceviche; I chose the medium-sized fish because we had previously eaten out earlier in the night. I was blown away by the portion size and how tasty it was. The fish tasted fresh and not fishy if that makes sense. We had the leftovers wrapped up in a taco box, and the waiter was kind enough to include fresh chips for the journey home. The inside was decorated with a lot of murals and was a super cool look. There are tables both inside and outside. This place is cash only and almost all of the bus boys, waiters, and bartenders only speak Spanish, so be prepared. I already can't wait to go back maybe even tonight!
The portion sizes are insane here. They give you chips and salsa as part of your meal, so probably don't need another dish with chips (the nachos were good though). The garlic on the fish was too much. We were all burping all night. However, the food was delicious. The ceviche was the best in the area. A ton of locals and tourists alike. Cash only. ATM right next door, but always a line.
If you're looking for the freshest ceviche in Tulum, this is the place to be! I have never had ceviche this good and the serving for a small order was good for 3-4 people. The price is very, very affordable as well. We also ordered fish and shrimp tacos which both were equally as good. The sauces on the table is a must with your tacos. Also have to mention how good their bean dip is which was complimentary when they serve you the tortilla chips. Service and ambiance is what you would expect from a local restaurant - warm and accommodating to your needs.
Food is fresh and delicious. Server was warm and friendly. It's a nice local spot with charm. I appreciated how they keep it about the food and service not like the tourist traps in the area with terrible food and service but it's okay because they have photo ops ::eye roll:: El Camello Jr was a breath of fresh air and one of the places that gave me hope that not all of Tulum has been ruined.
After watching numerous YouTube videos and going through Yelp - this place stood out!! I love trying locals favorite spots! My husband and I ordered the breaded shrimp tacos, this platter of seafood (tilapia, fish filet, lobster, crab, calmari, octopus, shrimp with rice and veggies) and a small ceviche. Even before the food came out they give you a plate piles high with tortilla chips and various salsas and a bowl of beans. Food was delicious and very flavorful! Would totally come back the next time in Tulum. Btw they accept cash only - and will convert USD & Euros for a small fee.
This was my favorite meal of my trip and I was in Mexico for 11 days. There were more locals than tourists in the restaurant which speaks to how good it is. We ordered a large ceviche platter, grilled seafood platter and drinks for the 4 of us and our bill was under $80 total. The same meal in the US would have been over $200. We honestly loved all of it and if it was closer to where we were staying then I would have gone back
This place was located a half block away from my hotel during my recent Tulum trip. Anytime you walk by after 12pm the place has a line out the door and down the sidewalk. I decided I wold check it out on my 2nd day for lunch since the crowd wasn't so bad. Grabbed a seat at the front in the outside area and was welcomed with chips and very good salsa. I. had to stop or I was gonna be too full for my lunch entree. I wound up getting the mixed seafood ceviche which included lobster, shrimp and grilled octopus...very tasty! I killed the entire plate lol! Washed it down with a nice mai tai. This place is cash only so make sure you hitup the ATM before heading over. Servers are nice as well as the guys that appear to be the owner/mgr.

This place is easy to find. It's downtown and plenty of parking. We drove here for dinner on a Thursday night and what gave me the most anxiety was the amount of cops that were on the road - so please drive slow so you don't get pulled over. I've been pulled over before by corrupt cops demanding money for "supposedly swerving." This restaurant does NOT accept credit cards however they do accept USD and pesos obviously. There's no ATM nearby The complimentary Fresh tortilla chips and bean dip was very good. Lobster in garlic (350 pesos) For the price, its great but it wasn't extra spectacular or anything special. Small octopus ceviche (80 pesos) It's a huge serving! Perfect Amount of acidity and the texture is spot on. Not too rubbery or too chewy and this appetizer is enough for two people. Fried red snapper (105 pesos) tasteless. It was lacking acidity and some sort of sauce. I wish I had gone with the order of fish with garlic sauce. Service was great. Bathroom was not so clean. In fact one stall was overflowing. Overall I would say this is a great place to go to get your money's worth. read more

Octopus ceviche was amazing!!! I was recommended this place by local people, and they are right! I ordered medium size, but it was a bit too big for two people's appetizers. I will order small next time. read more

Probably our favorite place to eat on our week in Tulum. Super crowded place, be prepared to wait, but the line moves fast. We loved the ceviche and the whole fried fish was our favorite! The prices are very low, which is awesome! read more
Found El Camello Jr. on Yelp while searching for places to eat in the area. This restaurant is located at the very end of the small town of Tulum. My husband went to town ordering beers, a large plate of Mixed Seafood Ceviche, Baja Style Tacos, Shrimp Tacos, Octopus Tacos & Grilled Fish Tacos. Too much food! The best dishes were the mouth watering Mixed Seafood Ceviche & the Octopus Tacos. We rolled our fat bellies out of there but on the way out we spotted a deep fried whole fish that looked amazing. Really good seafood that will not break your wallet. They will start you with fried beans and it gets better from there. Get lobster and shrimp cocktail. read more

This place is probably your best bang for your buck. The small ceviche was plentiful and had a great balance of flavor and acidity. The shrimp with garlic and rice was good but not amazing. I had the shrimp tacos and they were not that good at all. The tortilla was pretty bland and so was the batter. The shrimp was cooked nicely though, however after the second bite of my second taco the metallic taste of foil in the batter kind of killed everything. I showed the waiter and he kind of just shrugged and gave us the check. I'm not even tripping about it, just be wary of ordering anything with batter, you might get a bit of a surprise. read more

Really disappointed from this place . With all the great review regarding this place we decided to try. Service was very slow ( and they had only few customers eating ) . Location is not the best you can find in Tulum. Food was disappointing . The fish soup was tasteless ( see picture) . Ceviche was ok . Camarones were cold . Not a nice experience at all! read more

Great place to stop in Tulum. Known for their ceviche, it's a MUST. Very fast service and delicious food. Was visiting many places in Tulum and along the Riviera, and this place was a standout. Highly recommended. read more

The restaurant's atmosphere is inviting and friendly. The ceviches is amazing! Not only it is super cheap but also a giant portion as well. I saw a lot of people ordered fried fish and it looked so delicious! I am definitely going back to give it a try! read more

Fresh, fresh seafood! We walked by this place several times during our town visits and it was always very busy at both lunch and dinner. Our last night in Tulum we went for dinner. It was fantastic. Between three of us we ordered a medium shrimp cocktail( which was huge), lobster, shrimp and vegetables and mixed skewers of fish, shrimp and steak. The black beans are puréed and cooked with chipotles to give a smoky flavor and the habanero sauce was flavored with lots of lime juice. Sodas, juice and cocktails were inexpensive. The cocktails were not the best but they were ok and food was wonderful so it didn't really matter! I love chiles and spicy food but my friends prefer less spice and there were options to accommodate everyone and every diet or allergy. I would love to go back and try the whole grilled and fried fish as they looked like popular and delicious items. read more

This place is so good! We had the Medium size Ceviche and it was delicious and the plate was huge. Then I had the octopus tacos which were really good too, my gf had the shrimp tacos....yes they were delicious. The micheladas are really tasty too. Don't miss this! This place has great seafood at amazing prices. The ceviche here is piled high and cheap. Great quality fish. I had whole fried fish which was so delicious i still think of it at dinnertime. The interior is a bit stark and illuminated with fluorescent bulbs but it is an authentic locals resto. Better than the Rodeo drive wannabes along the beach road which are packed with your neighbors from back home. read more
