I literally tried just the starter and was wishing they made a bigger bowl of it! It was my last night in Tulum and I really wanted some margaritas but it wasn't on the menu. I was really sad about it because I kept passing the restaurant and wanted to check it out. Super cute place btw. The service was attentive and great. I found Humo online while searching breakfast spots near our Tulum Air B&B, I saw pictures and reviews so I was very excited to present this to my friends. When we arrived to the restaurant the server gave us hand sanitizer and took us to our table. I love the atmosphere here, definitely gives off a jungle vibe. The menu comes in both Spanish and English, I ended up ordering an iced matcha latte and the acai bowl, my friends ordered chilaquiles and fresh fruit. While we waited for our food to arrive we had a little photo shoot, since the whole restaurant is actually very picturesque. My matcha latte was really tasty, not too sweet and helped with the heat, I was a little bummed out when food arrive because my friends all received their chilaquiles and basically finished before my acai bowl arrived. The chilaquiles though were really tasty, I would definitely suggest ordering that! When my bowl came it was refreshing, nice a cold, I just wish it had more fruit. This place is definitely worth checking out, the staff are very friendly, the food is good and for the price it's a steal! read more

Get your brunch here ASAP! We came as a group of 8 while it was raining and it was a whole vibe underneath the birds nest-like covering. They have bug spray here as the seating is mainly all outdoors, but I'd definitely recommend spraying up before coming here! I wish we would've had the chance to come here for dinner as well. We ordered a variety of entrees and drinks including birds nest, enchiladas, toast with jam and butter, fruit plate, coffee, matcha and fresh jugos! HIGHLY recommend the juices here- they are made fresh behind the little counter and are delicious! The toast they use is sunflower toast. It's a little dry and works perfectly with runny eggs and cleaning up that spicy enchilada sauce! Expect a slower start especially if there is only 2 people working- show some patience :) read more

This is such an underrated spot in Tulum. Located in Tulum Centro, about 20 mins away from from Tulum beach. Love the low table sitting arrangement and the ambiance of the restaurant. It can get quite hot as there are no fans in the restaurant and it is outdoor seating. The guacamole and ceviche were so good! The guac is nothing compared to the ones in the US. The ceviche was also delicious, we got the ones with fish and it had mango and avocado pieces with light sauce. The chips were also fresh too. I got the octopus tacos and they were outta this world. Seriously hands down the best octopus I've ever had in my life and even better than the octopus I've tried in Mykonos. It's one of the hardest meats to cook and they did it perfectly. It was smokey and peppery, with a bit of guacamole it. They serve you sauces on the side. One of them is super super hot so be careful don't just put a bunch of sauces without trying them first. Also if you were to sit at the low table, you'd be asked to remove your shoes. Such a cool experience you can't get in the US. We went there 3 times, 2 for dinner and 1 for brunch/breakfast. Breakfast menu is from 8 am to 1pm. Everything what we ordered was delicious. They master the grill, the octopus was super tasty. They served us homemade tortillas with it. Desserts were vegan and super flavorful and delicious. In general all food we had was super tasty. Price/quality is fantastic. Good tacos and presented super pretty. I noticed this place took the longest to make our food out of all the places in Tulum. We were also the only people actively ordering food. They have a healthy coffee and juice bar open in the morning till 4ish also. The coffee was really so-so, not our favorite but also not bad. Green juice was good, not super sweet. Fave tacos were the lengua. We also were intrigued by the quesadillas since they had super smoky mushrooms inside. Octopus were good, not as much flavor as I dreamed, but with salt they were better. We have been here 3 times so far and will continue coming back for the simple reason that every time we try somewhere else, it pales in comparison Try the fish & octopus dinner entrees - they're incredible. Humo was such a nice, low key, romantic dinner for my birthday. It was close to our villa which made it even better so we could go back after, change clothes and hit some lounges after. It's a dimly lit, open space with candles everywhere and bohemian style floor pillows and wood carved tables to enjoy your meal and drink. We started off with glasses of wine which had nice notes with cherry/chocolate and woody flavors. We then transitioned to mezcal cocktails and ordering our meals. I loved the cocktail I chose and of course I sipped on my friends which was really good too! I chose the duck entree but unfortunately they did not have it in stock so I opted for my 2nd choice which was braised deer topped with an avocado and spinach type medley. It was served on a hot stone plate with a side of corn tortillas (optional) for eating with my deer. My friend he had these huge grilled shrimp tacos with a side of tortilla chips and the best smokey salsa I've ever had! I definitely will come back here when I go back to Tulum. As soon as you walk into Humo, you are transported into a burning man style backyard venue. If seating permits, you have the option of sitting at a traditional table or you can cris cross apple sauce down on the floor with you feet out at one of the lower tables. For food, we recommend the grilled octopus which might have the best freaking tentacles in all of Rivera Maya. If you want to give your taste buds a little kick from papa Diablo - try out the insanity that they call the fish tacos. What an experience! First off, Humo offers a wonderful selection of vegetarian and vegan options. My partner and I started with the guacamole, sopes and ceviche. The sopes were thin and beautifully cooked--tender on the bottom and slightly crispy on the edges. The avocado was well-balanced and smooth. Must try those two! For our mains, we ordered the grilled octopus and the panko-crusted avocado tacos. The grill/ charred flavor in the octopus blew me away. The best grilled octopus I've tried. To me, through, the star of the show was the tacos. The avocado was the perfect balance of crispy and soft, and the house-made tortilla was a soft pillow of deliciousness. Such a cute restaurant, we came here around 8pm without a resie on a Saturday after a long day being tourists. There are lots of cactus decorating the space, a cool bamboo architecture over the main dining area, and a menu and vibe reminiscent of Arca. Even the bathroom was cute but smelled a bit and was poorly lit so beware of cactus/plants sticking out from either side of the stairs. The food was pretty good! We didn't try the cocktails today sadly after a dehydrating day at the ruins. We ordered some steak dish, octopus tacos (3 pcs), a shrimp/scallop tostado, side of corn (elote style), and yellowtail tiradito. My friend said the steak was really good and proved his point by cleaning his plate. I wanted to like the corn but the texture was too hard/carby for me but the flavors were on point. The octopus tacos were good but would be better if the octopus was more crispy. The yellowtail was good the first few bites and the puffy crisps served with it added a nice mix of textures but the dish was even better after jazzing it up with some lime juice and smears of the spicy sauce (not sure if it came with the corn dish or if it was meant for the tiradito). Definitely order the shrimp/scallop tostado (the one with the shrimp head), it was v memorable. I definitely plan to come back to try the rest of the menu and the drinks! I recommend this spot for the date night ambiance, creative menu, nice design/decor, and wallet-friendly dinner (compared to all the restaurants at Tulum beach). Humo definitely has a differente ambiance which makes you feel at home. Everything is very pretty and to eat you have the option to sit in cute little tables in the floor. We went for my birthday breakfast and although we had fun, food was not to die for. I enjoyed the yellow milk very much, but the chilaquiles weren't my favorite. The totopos were very mushy when they arrived, I think it was because of the eggs on top, and it had some flavors which I didn't like very much. My partner, on the other hand, had the omelette of egg whites and loved his plate. I guess I didn't choose mine wisely. Anyways, service was very good and everyone was really welcoming. read more

Really cool interior and overall vibe. You sit on the floor and the decor inside is great. Doesn't feel like you're right off the main road. The food was ok. Not impressed with the drinks. Multiple items we tried to order off the menu were not in stock. This is one of the nicer restaurants downtown so I was expecting a little more. Also, at some point in the night they light a diffuser and spread essential oils around the restaurant. Smelled good but it was really weird to experience while you're trying to eat. My friends and I stumbled upon Humo while walking our airbnb neighborhood in search of breakfast. We peeked in the gates and liked what we saw, and I'm so glad we stayed! This became our new go-to place for breakfast and lunch during our stay in Tulum. Everything Humo served up was exquisite and fresh, so good that everything I've had since has paled in comparison. I had mole chilaquiles, green juice, and coffee for my first breakfast, then a berry smoothie bowl the next. Both were perfection. I also had the shrimp tacos for lunch and I swear, I've never had anything more delicious in my life. I live in Texas and have authentic Mexican food all the time, but this was next level. Aside from the amazing food, our server Diego was friendly and accommodating. He took the time to discuss his favorites with us, to describe the specific flavors of each dish, and just generally made us feel like friends. The atmosphere was stylish and comfortable, but like most Tulum restaurants, be prepared for the heat and mosquitos if you're visiting in the warm months. Humo is a must-visit! read more
