So my husband and I wanted tacos. We walked into the building excited to try their tacos. The manager has a lady on the phone who ordered something from him from door dash and had made it clear it was a pick up order. He was laughing at her and interrupting. He kept saying he needed a driver to deliver her food. She said she was doing a pick up order and was getting it herself. He was very rude and condescending towards her. I asked the server if his boss was always this rude to customers and he said, "yeah probably." What if there had been something wrong with my order and I complained? Would he talk down to me and laugh at me too? My husband and I are hungry and very much wanted tacos and we spend a lot and are good tippers. We've eaten at El Camino Real twice now, and each time it has been fabulous. I love their steak street tacos. The meat is not overcooked like it is at most Mexican restaurants. It is tender and full of delicious flavor. The burritos are terrific and huge. We love the chips and salsa. Salsa is plain--no onions or cilantro in it, but it's got plenty of heat. Chips are not too thick, just right. Staff is courteous and prompt with service. The menu is extensive. We love this place, it's our new favorite for Mexican and having traveled all over the US for the past three years, it's one of the best, we think. read more

I ordered a quesadilla here and it was like 5 dollars, but anyways the waitress was very rude. She was quick and impatient which is fine but was not a good first impression. I asked if I could get tomatoes on my quesadilla and she said yes and left. The quesadilla was so small and barely any tomatoes in it but whatever. i then asked for more chips and she said it was gonna be extra (i was shocked because almost every Mexican restaurant has free chips) and so i said no thank you. She then gave us our bill and she charged me extra for the tomatoes. She should have told me. I'm not a broke person but i work in the food industry and always inform my costumers of extra charges. I don't recommend going here it's very overpriced and the food always makes me sick and they treat you so bad. Me and my family are never returning. read more

This restaurant has everything you could ask for in a Mexican restaurant. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and very good food! The only thing I can ding them for was the corn tortillas were hard on one side...not fresh. I originally asked for corn and flour tortillas but only received the corn ones. I asked (after the original order) for flour tortillas and told her the other corn ones were hard. So the waitress brought me the same corn tortillas that were hard on one side AGAIN! . So I just ate the fajitas without tortillas. I don't think she cared. Oh well...food made up for it. Beer was ice cold bottles. I also had the fried jalapeños which were really good too. Service was fast, but the waitress was lackadaisical and going through the motions...I get it...you're busy, maybe just try to listen to the customer more and pay attention to what you are giving them. Was looking for a place to unwind, ordered a pitcher of margaritas to share with hubby. It was okay. I got the veggie quesadilla they we good hubby got #13 which was okay. The salsa was good the chips not so good. I like thin and crispy these were thick. Ordered sollipedias (sp) since we still had the pitcher to finish. They were absolutely terrible. I love anything and everything with shrimp on the menu, but I usually order the fajitas Jalisco which have a little of everything! Another positive is that it doesn't seem to matter when you come, you can get a table. The service is quick and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Brought my family here for our first time and first meal since quarantine away from home. The chips and salsa were good as was the poppers. Then our food finally arrived excited to eat, my wife takes maybe one bite of a burrito or enchilada and that was enough for Her! So I dug into all my combo items and my food was all bland or weird tasting as if the meats were in their walk in since quarantine started and the flour tortillas tasted off as did the corn taco shells! We decided to try this restaurant. I got a wet burrito, my wife, 2 tacos, rice and beans. I really didn't care for the chicken burrito. Just didn't have much flavor. My wife's tacos were very greasy, sitting in a pond of meat grease. The rice was bland but the beans were good. The chips were stale and we didn't try the salsa. We probably won't be back. read more

My wife and I stopped by the restaurant in Elkhart. We noticed immediately that there were gnats flying around all over us and our food. I managed to kill 5 of them and they were still more when we left. We showed them to the guy at the register and he just smiled and went back to the register. food was terrible. i took a bite of my boyfriend's "steak quesadilla" and i almost threw up literally! i couldnt keep it down. it looked more like a big taco than a quesadilla... my taco salad was soggy there was so much juice in it, ruining the entire meal. We couldnt even eat it. $30 wasted on terrible food. had they not have been closed by the time we got home i would have taken everything back. i don't reccomend this restaurant. what a disappointment! read more

I headed to Elkhart for work this past week and was interested in learning what restaurant choices would be available. Me and my office roomie stumbled upon El Camino Real and were pleasantly surprised! The service was quick and, like many Mexican restaurants, we were given a basket of chips and a bowl of salsa. Delicious. Now, on to the main course. I was in the mood for enchiladas and rice. The main lunch dish included beans, but I opted for more rice. No beans for me, please. What about the food??? Previous reviewer has given El Camino Real a bad rap. This is one of our favorite places to go - for food. If you are looking for Margaritas, forget it, as there is no liquor license, so of course they are bad! Entrees are consistently good. Everything we have tried is fresh, tasty and delicious. Don't waste your time going here. The food: It's ok. Nothing to write home about. It's not the best or the worst. We had the Pollo Guerrero BTW. The service: Slow. The host (if that's what you'd call him) could care less if we were there. It almost seemed like we were bothering him. The waiter was a douche. Popped collar, no personality, and not very efficient. We watched him check one table, go get what they needed, come back, drop off what they wanted, wander around for a bit, check on another table. I was not very happy with the food here. As soon as we tried the salsa I was starting to doubt how good the food would be. It was not very flavorful and I had to ask for lime and put more salt to try to get it to taste better. I had the fajita bowl and it was just ehh ok. My husband had their biggest burrito and it was just ok for him as well. Everything was just kind of bland. I used to live in Goshen and El Camino was my twice a week lunch. Every week, 2 times a week, for years. The food is always amazing. And the staff are always great. I miss the food there a lot and when I'm back in town I try to get out there for a quick Chimichanga. I am sort of spoiled, though. It got to the point where I could just walk in, sit anywhere I wanted, start reading a book and my food would just show up without bothering to have to order. I have eaten here several times and the biggest reason is that it is convenient from where I live. It is not the best Mexican food, but it's not the worst. The chips are like the ones you would get at the grocery store. Most of the burritos ond tacos are premade and put on the plate and nuked a few seconds. They bring it out with gloves on and tell you the plate is hot and they are right. The plate is hot but the food is cool. I have sent it back before but the just can't get the food hot. Nasty Margaritas, bland food and bad service. The fish tacos were bland but most importantly, their margaritas taste disgusting. i would probably give another star if the margarita was decent. It IS a Mexican restaurant and generally the margaritas aren't too bad at Mexican restaurants - but really, DON'T find out for yourself, it tasted like moldy mix- I couldn't drink more than 1/4 (I really really tried) and when I told the manager that it tasted very strange. He said "No it doesn't. It tastes fine." I asked if he's tasted it recently, he says, "Yes, everyday." Right dude. Regardless I ordered something I didn't like, i didn't even drink it, I tell you it's really bad and you just say, it's fine, too bad. I think that's bad customer service. Plus when we sat down, there was hardly anyone in there and we waited at least 10 minutes to have our order taken while the manager sat nearby watching videos on his cell phone. I moved away from northern Indiana some 10 years ago. I've lived in Los Angeles and San Francisco since then where they are reputed to have pretty good Mexican food. But I can say that hands down the quesadillas de carne asada at El Camino Real are the best I've ever had. I've scoured restaurants in these two great west coast cities for something comparable, but as of yet have been unsuccessful. I doubt that people in Elkhart/Goshen know how lucky they are to have this place. Again, if you go there try the quesadilla de carne asada. It's delectable. If I were lucky enough to have a private jet I would fly there once a month just to eat this dish. read more

Pretty standard mexican restaurant. The service was quick and the chips and salsa were great. Chips were freshly made and the salsa had just enough kick. I ordered the chili colorado and it was mediocre. The red sauce was tasty and spicy but the beef was simply grilled and covered in the sauce. The dish would have tasted far better if the beef had been slow cooked in the red sauce because it was terribly dry and had little flavor other than being covered in sauce. For the price of the meal it is not really a big deal, I would go back, but doubt I would order the Chili Colorado again. read more
