You order at the counter and the food was ready very quickly and brought to me at my table with both a roasted and green salsa bottle. Very nice because of always ask if they have them if they had not brought them. I ordered a 1/2 order of chicken enchiladas in green sauce which came with rice and beans. Generous portion for a 1/2 order. I also ordered a steak taco Mexican style on corn. Everything was very good and I also thought it was nice that they make their refried beans using Northern beans. I loved the carnitas and horchata here. The steak taco was also good. I did not like the barbacoa as much or the rice, both bland. The al pastor has a spice in it that I do not love, but it was ok. I prefer Arriba for rice and al pastor. Beans were ok. Both salsas were slightly too hot for me, but that is just a me thing. I can handle a little bit of the verde. Staff was nice. My wife and I were in Niles Michigan over the weekend for a concert, and we wanted some good Mexican food. Several locals told us to check out Taqueria Don Chepe, and we headed over for dinner on Friday. When we arrived, we noticed a large line at the counter/cash register. You order your meal, pay the bill, get a number placard, and then you take a seat at an open table. The staff delivers the food. At first, we kind of raised our eyebrows, but then realized this was an efficient way to move both take out and sit down customer quickly through the ordering process. I was impressed at how well the Don Chepe team worked together. When the servers were not taking orders, preparing and delivering food, they were cleaning tables, counters tops, and sweeping floors. The restaurant was clean, tidy, and we loved the ambiance of the seating area. My wife ordered a Taco and a Tamale, I ordered a Steak Tortas Deluxe, Chips, Guacamole, and Salsa. The wife loved the taco, tamale, and the chips. She said that the chips were the best ever. I have to agree. Five Star. The Tortas Deluxe included steak, ham, cheese, jalapenos, avocado, lettuce, and tomato. The first time that I've had a Tortas, and it was very good. The bun was a bit dry/flaky for me. Four stars. Got chicken and cheese enchiladas hoping these would not be dry as before. Even Taco Bell's Enchirito had lots of enchilada sauce. These were bland and hopelessly dry. I added a lot of Valentina hot sauce. Frijoles refritos were oddly pale tan. Rice was bland. Chips were way over cooked. Salsa was good tho'. So delicious we wanted to order seconds! We we're visiting the area and I looked up this place in advance and it sounded amazing and it lived up to all the amazing reviews! We ordered the Tostadas and Flautas and they left us wanting more! The tostadas were the best and I wish he had ordered those instead of the Flautas. They were great but needed a sauce or something to dip them in. The beans and rice were the best I've ever had! The beans were real mashed beans and not canned junk. They tasted amazing! I want to say first, a wet burrito has a layer of enchilada sauce NOT a blanket of chewy white cheese. Burrito was Chicken but the chicken was in such small pieces that it looked like it was out of a bag. A sliver of lettuce, a piece of tomato and some overdone rice. I'm from Arizona and this isn't authentic Mexican at all. The refried beans were almost white and like bean soup and the rice tastes so bland, but just adding salsa to rice doesn't make it Mexican rice. This is just a money grab with crappy ingredients. I had disgusting, stale chicken flautas that were inedible and the soda tasted awful and I saw flies everywhere which made me nauseous and you have to pay first which is weird. The silverware looked like it wasn't washed for years and it was so dirty in the place. I thought it would be good since the good reviews but I was wrong, it's a place that takes your money and that gives you inedible food. The carnitas on Saturdays are to die for get them in a gordita with everything and thank me later. And also when I was trying to take my order, the person who charged me was very rude, uninformed, and just plain unintelligent. He kept checking his watch and switching the music instead of paying attention to the customer. This sweet, short woman noticed that I was growing impatient and yelled at him to pay attention. Wow! Awesome find. These were some of the best tacos I have ever had. If they keep making em' like they did today I will keep coming back. I got 2 steak tacos and 2 Al pastor tacos which is a good portion if you're hungry. If you're really hungry you can probably go for 2 more. Food came out hot and quickly. I walked in at the dinner rush and the line was to the door and it would seem for good reason! I also got the chips and salsa and the salsa was tasty. The kids had chicken flautas that were stale. They couldn't eat them. My husband ordered the chicken tamale and said it was inedible. They make you pay before you eat, which I do not like. They also make you pay for chips and salsa, which I don't like. Rice and beans were cold. The silverware looked gross. On top of all that, the Dr. Pepper even tasted bad. Tried this place based on some good Yelp reviews and it was pretty good. The prices are very reasonable and the food was good. The Friday special was Flautas, chicken or cheese. I had the chicken which came with rice and beans too. All for $5.95 for the half order, which came with three flautas. Also ordered a six pack of chicken tamales, which were also very good. The wet burrito was surprisingly the only miss. It was covered in melted cheese that turned hard when it cooled. I would recommend the flautas and tamales for sure. Our party of 8 all ate for ~$65. The only other thing was the seating. We had to push together two tables but it worked. It is better with a party of 4 or less. read more
