Their chips and salsa are truly addicting, with the salsa having the perfect amount of spice and flavor. Their menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of different tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas. My personal favorite is the steak and chicken fajitas. The flavor in these fajitas is unmatched, along with their fresh tasting Pico de Gallo and guacamole to go along with it. The portions on this dish are honestly enough for two people, but I love taking the leftovers home for the next day. Pricing is reasonable for the amount of food every dish serves. Service is extremely friendly and always looking to please. Friday and Saturday nights can feel a little hectic with lots of people and longer wait times, but once you're seated you are guaranteed a great meal and service. My husband, Mother and myself were on the road headed for Boise and wanted to stop for lunch in Burley. After reading reviews of several places we chose El Caporal. We were not disappointed! We are from Southern California so have choices of many good Mexican restaurants and I would go to this one every week if I could! Service was quick, attentive, drinks brought out fast with chips and sauce. The waitress answered my questions about the dishes. I got the chili verde burrito and it was excellent! Came in for dinner, parking lot was still full just before 7 on a Sunday night was a good sign. Seemed like plenty of wait staff as they were really turning tables. El Molcajete from El Caporal is one of my favorite things to eat. I absolutely love the bacon wrapped shrimp. Bacon does make it so much better. The steak and chicken is really wonderful. The steak is tender and the chicken is grilled just right. Don't forget the cheese and cactus leaf. The sauce is absolutely amazing. I could eat it everyday. If you ask locals where they suggest to eat they say here almost all of them do for Mexican food. First off this building is huge, gorgeous, well kept, clean, I love all the seating they have, they get you in quick. Our waitress was friendly, awesome, quick, food came out fast. So there is no denying some killer service here. My husband and I got the enchiladas because that's our favorite and generally what we get. I would say compared to other Mexican restaurants I've been to it was on the smaller portion side. That being said though it was very good. Not the best I've ever had but good! I also love the chips, salsa, and bean dip they give you for free! Never seen any place give you bean dip for free!! It's awesome! Free refills on the salsa so we got more. I really loved there salsa and chips. They even gave us a free little dessert it was good too! Overall this is a great place and I think we will be back for sure for some Mexican food. Wow, what a difference 24 hours make. Last nights Mexican restaurant in Provo mad me sad, this place is great! It starts with tasty salsa and chips, with refried beans as a comped starter. Tasty chunky onion/cilantro salsa with good chips. I had the carne asada, (an obviously flame grilled skirt steak)...I added cheese. Very tasty. Ask for the hotter salsa! Good sized menu, lots of choices. Good portions, and VERY ATTENTIVE servers. Good beer selection, and a large size.(don't drive after this one) beer. I had the flan for dessert. VERY TASTY!!! As it turns out, nobody in Idaho know what Queso is, so you probably won't get it if you ask. The fajitas where good with green and red peppers as well as onions. Their flour tortillas are a little small and the corn tortillas are more white than corn color. Someone else in our party had a burrito and it was huge. He liked it a lot. The service was pretty good. However, if you order something and say, do you want to add for instance, sour cream, and guacamole to your taco salad if there's a charge for it. If you order menudo that there is a charge for the harmony. And the Menudo was old, I've had it all over the world, and this is probably the worst in years. I asked my server about the loaded roisters and he told me that it doesn't was about $26 because it's not listening menu. However when I've got the check for six of them it was $27 and they weren't all that for $27! read more

Me and my wife went to El Caporal And overall was a great experience. For a appetizer we got Carne Asada fries which were amazing and loaded with cheese. We ordered two ultimate tequila's which were super tasty and strong definitely worth the $11, my wife got flautas and I got a Carna Asada burrito both were great but a little bland but can be easily fixed with hot sauce. Usually I enjoy coming here very much. But this last time I was there I was not so impressed. We spent a total of two hours there because the ser I've was so slow. Every time we asked for something we e never received it. Waitress never came back to see if we needed anything. The menu said one price but when we got the bill it was another price, and when I asked about it they said they are trying to get the menus changed. Only eat here if you have a lot of spare time on your hands. We had lunch and dinner--each took almost 2 hours. Had lunch at 2pm on a Sunday. Took 15 minutes to place an order and over 1 hour for the food to arrive; and then took them another 10 minutes to bring the check after we requested it. When I complained to the hostess about how long it took, she whined about their being a large party in their banquet room. Well, if you can't handle a large party, then don't seat a large party--or stop seating others; or warn others that things will be delayed. There are many ways to handle a situation and the staff here took no action. Heck, simply offering use a free drink or a discount on the meal would have gone a long way. The lunch issue was not an isolated incident. We ate a late dinner on a Saturday and had a similar timing issue. The kitchen is clearly not capable of serving the number of people who can be seated in this restaurant. We are on our way to Oregon and stopped in Burley Idaho overnight. This place was recommended to us by the hotel staff and it is awesome. The portions are gigantic and there's plenty to share for two people just with one entree. We got the enchiladas plate and the steak fajitas. This is great food after a long day of traveling. Nice selection of beers. We had a corona light and a modela. This place does not disappoint. We have another meal for later tonight. The food was average and service less than average. We expected more for our family of seven spending over $120 all the way from Minnesota. The food here was very good, but the staff was terrible. The waitress even turned out the lights while we were eating our meal (which took a while to get). Then she said that she meant to turn off bathroom lights. That was a load of bull because she then went back to the other staff and looked at us side eyed and talked about us, at which point the other employees stared at us. Don't plan to ever come back here if the opportunity did arise. Our steak was burnt, our chicken was burnt and our breaded shrimp somehow managed to get burnt. The wait for it was 20-30 minutes and the waitress seemed to really not wanna be there. I am traveling and stopped here for dinner. I have to say the service was good and had no complaints. I ordered the crab enchiladas and was quite surprised that they had real crab. I was expecting artificial seafood. I asked for the green salsa. It was awful sour and almost bitter. I do not recommend. The salsa served with chips was also very different. It had a weird aftertaste almost smoky in nature. The beans however were 5 stars just like grandma used to make.
