I appreciate this local market and the special deals they offer--it's always nice to support a small business that provides value to the community. Unfortunately, I had a concerning experience regarding food safety. The employee assisting me put on gloves, handled raw chicken, and then went directly to the fresh cheese to grab some for my order without changing gloves. Since the cheese was being used as a topping and would not be cooked, this creates a serious risk of cross-contamination. I hope the employees can be reminded of the importance of changing gloves between handling raw meat and ready-to-eat foods. I truly appreciate the small-business aspect and want to support them, but when it comes to food handling, safety has to come first. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that it can be addressed and prevented in the future. read more

I found this local Mexican meat market to try as they grill some meats over charcoal off to the side in their parking lot. I was going to bring some to a family lunch gathering as to contribute to the spread. First of all this market is kinda on a fringe area of Stockton, on the fringe of suburban living and agriculture living. So this is not a well trafficked, well stocked store. Looks like the store once had a refrigerated produce area but is now all unplugged and vacant in that corner. Not a good look. You can get basic shelf stable stuff here like beans, limited canned goods, sodas and disposable kitchen stuff like napkins. Pretty much what you can get at any mini mart, except this is much bigger in size than a mini mart. Looks like they were once a more full-service grocery store for the farming community but is now being scaled back. There is still a nice meat market towards the back. Nothing is prewrapped, you have to go through a counter person. Very limited offerings that gear towards Mexican cooking. Chorizo, different meats sliced super thin to be grilled (asada), and some things marinated. They did have an impressive selection of big steaks however, which is not really a big part of Mexican cooking. Huge steaks of strip loins beautifully marbled, monster tomahawks and even thick short ribs. Most of those were like $23ish/lb. Don't know why they also carry these primo and expensive cuts as the area doesn't seem to match that market. Unless farm peeps are into expensive beef that I was not aware of. But if I only came here and just got this beef, my rating would probably be much higher. This stuff passed the eye check no problem. But I ended up trying their prepared food so my rating is based on that. I first tried ordering a whole grilled chicken as I've had good experiences with Mexican slow grilled chicken. I usually love how they season and grill. But was told they weren't doing any whole chickens that day, on a nice summer Sunday. Otay. So I went with some grilled ribs that were $10/lb. I had no clue what these entailed but since I was already there, I just did a quick substitute. Ordered 2 lbs., paid, took the receipt outside to the tented grill station and waited. After about 5-8 minutes I was handed a heavy bag. The ribs were cut up and totally stuffed into a single to-go box. They were nice and meaty. BUT they totally weren't grilled or bbq'd ribs. They were boiled (WTF?!), cut, placed in a box and drizzled with cheap bbq sauce over the top. Zero stint over a grill! I was flabbergasted. Lol. I didn't think this could be a thing in today's world (the 60s - 70s maybe) as those days simply weren't as caring or knowledgeable about food. This isn't my area so I didn't have the guts to return this laughable prepared food product. So I just kept it, put it in the fridge at my aunts house and took it home when I left. I did not use it for our gathering, I am too prideful when it comes to treating my family/friends. When I got home I washed off the cheap bbq sauce, cut the ribs in smaller chunks and recooked it with salsa verde I had in the pantry. So basically like Chile Verde. It wasn't awesome but at least I didn't waste money and/or food which always bums me out. Also tried a Vampiro with carne asada ($5/3*) since they also do some taqueria fare out in that 'bbq' tent outside. I ate it there in the parking lot fresh. A vampiro is basically a crunchy shelled taco but the shell is just a flat crisp corn tortilla. The bottom tortilla was the best part, super crisp with good corn flavor. Topped with a good amount of finely chopped carne asada which was nice, and was the reason why I tried this. To try their beef here, since I was just eyeing their nice meat cold case just 15 minutes prior. The meat was marinated so really couldn't really taste the beef on its own. Definitely lime and spices. Then the rest of the vampiro is totally topped and drowning in salsa and crema, so the beef got lost even more. Womp womp. I usually have decent luck when I kinda go off the grid. Not this time unfortunately, a total miss. I would come back and get a steak or 2 from their butcher's counter, but I won't get anything cooked here again. Bummed to say the least. read more

My fiancé had to take our car in for service yesterday on Hammer so I requested el Cejas for lunch on his way home to Lodi. They were running a special for the mini torta and two tacos plate for $10 which is a no brainer because the $12 they normally charge for it is already a great deal. I also got a vampiro because they're SO crispy and delicious. No complaints! I think I've decided that I like the asada better than the pastor, the pastor is still really good but the asada is seasoned perfectly and the cuts of meat they use aren't filled with bs and cartilage and chewy fat like other taco stands. This place is def one of our faves in the valley. read more

My amazing wife surprised me on my birthday with a ribeye steak sandwich from el ceja. Ive been looking forward to this sandwich due to being told by multiple people how great they were. The sandwich comes with a generous portion of steak, onions, mayonnaise, mustard, lettuce, and cheese. The star of the show had to be the bun that all of this was placed between. The bun was soft and so tasty. As for the rest of the sandwich it was good, but not great. The steak is cooked well and the toppings hit the spot. Its just for me, nothing other than the bun stood out. Now comes the worst part about this sandwich. Its $20. For $20 I want something to make a sandwich set itself apart from others. Wow!!! The chicken and the arrachera are really good. Some of the best I've had. Grilled over mesquite is the way to go. Everyone that worked here were super nice and attentive. I was amazed at how clean they kept the place. I had come because I've been hearing how good this place is and it most definitely was. 3/1/26 - An associate & I were talking about food, she was preparing to go to Santa Cruz on Super Bowl Sunday just to hang-out around the area. She told me what she was preparing and her husband offered to barbecue some ribs. She said that she found a new meat market and I asked her about the location. Well I knew the vicinity, but had never been on the other side (Morada) of Hwy. 99. So after church since I didn't have my grandchildren I decided to use my adventurous self and find this place. It was so easy!!! I walked into this huge supermarket not really expecting too much, and I am glad I didn't!!!! Much of the shelves and freezer sections were empty. No one in the aisles. They had an amazing wine selection and some laundry detergents & bleach. I walked to the back where I browsed the meat section, not much to choose from. I then saw a barbecue menu standing to my left and browsed for a moment. I really did not come there to eat, but the sign outside "Tacos" didn't help!!! I ordered a super taco which was $4.36. The other foods such as burritos and other foods were a bit overpriced and I know food is too, too high but sometimes owning a store you do think about your overhead, but also I think you need to think about your customers. No one, myself included, looked as if they had a lot of money. My super taco was the cheapest thing on the menu and I got it because it was lunchtime and I wanted to try their meat; and most importantly I love tacos!!!!! They had a sirloin steak or some part of a steak burrito for $19.99. If my oldest son saw that he would have choked!!! I call him a burrito enthusiast because he has been all around Stockton, Manteca and Lodi to the different food trucks. He has never paid anything close to that and sometimes he orders that hot Cheeto's burrito. I think the highest I ever paid for a burrito was $14.00. I remember growing up in San Francisco and my cousin told me about this place where I had my very first steak burrito. $5.00 and it was a foot-long, stuffed with meat, sliced avocados, I mean the WORKS!!!! Don't look for anything fancy!. If you purchase hot food you order in the meat section then you go outside where the barbecue pits are and give them your receipt, your food is made to order, that's a plus!!!!! I was expecting more than what I got, but it's okay, you are not suppose to compare. I sat in the car while it was hot and ate. It was filled with tender steak, onions and peppers halves that were not hot. The tortilla was very good!!!! If I go back I might try a burrito but I did enjoy my taco. Maybe during the week is when they have more meats. Just remembered I had a super taco in Richmond, CA. It was bigger but $14.00. The Bay Area is no joke with food prices. read more

Wish I would've tried the hot food sooner! We've been buying meat here for a while already we like the specials and the quality. We also like that it's always clean and there's a large variety from bomb seafood ceviche to marinated meats and salsas and queso. The people here are super nice and patient lol and you order the hot food inside at the meat market and then pick it up outside. We tried the Wagyu Burrito which was really worth the $25 - and the Vampiro's and Shrimp Tacos which were both so good I couldn't decide which one was my favorite! It was a lot of food for a good price and everything was just packed with flavor and a great amount of spice but with the meat quality really standing out on every item. Well done El Cejas!! Recently discovered this place inside Morada market. A hidden gem for sure, they have a vast variety of fresh meats, both seasoned and unseasoned. Their tri tip is now the only one I buy and their customer service is helpful and friendly. They've recently started selling numerous smoked meats on the weekends in the parking lot. They have a steak sandwich that is out of this world! They are locally owned and operated which is another reason to give them your business! read more

This meat market is the best in Stockton. The service they have is top notch and especially Thursday- Sunday when they do fresh grilling. On Friday Saturday and Sunday just all the people out waiting for their lunch and breakfast burrito gives it that this is some good food vibes. I had to try the Waygu burrito and it was the best burrito ever. So if you haven't tried the bbq or the meat you better get down there and enjoy some good food. Also the 2 guys who cook are the best ever. They are not skimpy and of course the owner is a very cool you with all his customers. I am so glad to have a meat market of this quality close to where I live. The first time we could only drive by as it was during Jesse's grand opening I actually couldn't visit because the parking lot was totally packed. My husband and I went back two days later after the grand opening and visited. They are just getting started up, but even then, and after the opening weekend, there was a good selection of meats. You can tell Jesse is enthusiastic and devoted to offering only the best selection. He works with a local farm of which I will add later when I edit this review. His prices are competitive. I purchased 4 pounds of plank ribs of excellent quality for less than I would've paid somewhere else. We smoked them yesterday and they are excellent. He's open to suggestions and loves new ideas.
