Six of us had dinner at the El Charro Cafe last night. It's not a fancy place, a little noisy, but they deserve 5 stars for their food. I can honestly say that it was the best Mexican food we've had since coming to Yuma. They were very busy, waiting line was short. They still managed to give all of us everything we needed and the prices were very reasonable. The portions were large and we took half of our meal home with us. Our waitress, Maria, was absolutely fantastic-friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. . She had a warm smile, incredibly friendly, and seemed to enjoy what she does. Maria anticipated our needs before we even had to ask-refilling drinks and checking in on us just at the right time. Come here every time I'm in town ..... not any more! They changed the cook or recipe or food supply or something because this visit was just ok. The food flavor is not the same that it used to be and they no longer have good fresh guacamole. I won't be back. Got to find another Mexican restaurant to dine. read more

Food is delicious! My grandpa says it has the best rice Tamales are perfect!!! Enchiladas and Carnitas are also very tasty! Workers are all super friendly and treat you like family. Tortillas were store bought, fish and shrimp were frozen..... beans out of a can.... And a tomatillo salsa that was red?!! Service was good..... and food came out quickly..... but with the frozen food..... i understand why. Probably will not go back. read more

We were traveling through Yuma and looked up a Mexican restaurant for our gluten free family members. El Charro Cafe came up with good reviews. They were definitely not wrong. There were 9 of us. We were seated quickly after they pushed a few tables together. The wait staff was very friendly and answered all our questions with a smile. I had the special which was the tostada grande with machaca. The meat was seasoned perfectly and was very tasty. Everybody loved the different dishes that ranged from rolled tacos to chile rellanos. The extremely pleasant waitress even offered to give us separate checks which was over and above. Tried this restaurant also in Yuma. Very bland mexican food. We are used to Albuquerque mexican food and this just doesn't compare. Whatsoever. I added all the hot sauces they had on the table and salt to get even some taste in the salsas. Had the chicken chimichanga and had to do the same to get some taste. No taste with the chicken at all. This is a five you do not want to miss this place our favorites are the fajitas and the chile relleno and you can get it with the red sauce or green sauce we prefer the red but they're both delicious! The chips and salsa are fantastic! We always have to wait for a few minutes here but it usually doesn't take long! We always try to eat other places just so we can get a little variety when we're in town but we always get pulled back in! Good Food, great service! So good! read more

Colorful, vibrant, busy restaurant with good customer service. Quick pit-stop before a 3hr drive home and we ordered the steak nachos to eat in, and the sopapillas for take out. The nacho portion was HUGE and the steak was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, I think the dish got lost / was sat somewhere and by the time it got to us, the cheese had rubberized, and affected the whole plate. The waitress must have gone to the kitchen 3-4 times to check on it too. Unfortunate, but it happens. The sopapillas did not travel well. I'm sure they would have been great, hot out the kitchen. We didn't have a bad experience here, but it wasn't anything great or special. Most of the food was pretty bland. In an area that has outstanding Mexican food, this tasted like generic chain restaurant Mexican food that you could find anywhere in the country. Like I said, it's not necessarily bad, but there was nothing special or above average about this food. For our orders, I had the enchilada special which came with two rolled tacos and my fiancée had the combinacion numero uno. Honestly, everything was pretty forgettable. The tamale and enchiladas were coated in pretty bland sauce and they just came off like eating some random slop. The beans were alright, but could definitely have used some more seasonings and the rice was standard. The rolled tacos had no flavor whatsoever, those were actually pretty bad and I definitely wouldn't recommend them. Their salsas were fine, nothing to write home about. What I will say is that you get a lot of food for your dollar here. The portions are huge, but what they have in quantity, they're severely lacking in quality. Overall, if you're in the Yuma area, you'll be fine skipping this place. There's tons of awesome Mexican restaurants that are just as inexpensive but provide so much more flavor and I feel are a way better bang for your buck. read more

The food was terrible, stale chips,Spanish rice was from last week, refried beans were way too salty, and the beef burrito had no seasoning just some canned tomatoes and chopped onions to add flavor. The watery quality to the burrito shows just how indifferent to quality the owners are they don't even take time to drain the family dollar quality canned tomatoes they use. Service is indifferent, just want to hand out the slop and get you out the door. They were good and the portion was large, with three tacos, rice and beans. My husband had the saddle burrito and it was very good and huge...literally could feed two people!!!
