The food was great. Thank you and great job to the cooks. I had the carnitas with flour tortillas. Mom had the tamales enchilada style. That's the sauce you see on the platter. avoid this place. took some family here , they said the wait would be 30 minutes, that's fine. we ended up waiting 2 and 1/2 hours for our table. it then took another hour for our food to come out. it was over priced and very bland, no flavor at all. the drinks were also flavorless and watered down. i work in the service industry so i understand things. but the staff here was extremely inattentive and seemingly had no care about anything. read more

We're new to the area, found this place as we drove to (wherever we were going) and decided to stop in without even checking the reviews. It's your typical Mexican restaurant when you step in, down to the worn out menu that really needed to be trashed and the older booth with the sunk-in cushion. The waitress was friendly and helpful. Chips and red salsa are served when you're seated - the salsa is good, not great but good. We ordered flour rolled and street tacos, which were REALLY good. Food was mediocre. The taco salad with ground beef was bland. Originally, I asked for the "caldo de res", but they had none. Then I asked for shrimp in my taco salad and I couldn't be accommodated, so I got stuck with an over cooked ground beef. Hubby asked for the carnitas dinner. The meat looked like it was fried and was burned. He asked for corn tortillas & he got flour. Place was almost empty, but it took forever to get the order. When you run out of beef at the drive through and have to leave to pick up more at another location, and the Only meat to serve customers is rotten chicken... the only right option is to let customers know you can't make any folded tacos for them. Our friends love this place. We had a great dinner, lots of chips and red sauce (spicy green sauce available on request). Margaritas were good too. I had a beef taco and cheese enchilada with red sauce. Both were very good. The Hubbs had the Mexican pizza and our friends had the chili rellano and shrimp tacos. Service was excellent. Been in business since the 1940s.... interesting is all I can say. To be quite honest, it may have been the worst Mexican restaurant I have been to. Perhaps I am more used to "Tex-Mex" so the fact that I couldn't get a 'regular' taco I will bypass. What I did get was not great. Let's start with the queso with meat... loaded with grease and tasted like the meat was old and had been reheated. The rolled taco... bland and baseless. The guacamole... I believe to be only mashed avocado... no onion, no tomato, no seasoning of any kind. Adding a little salt made is palatable. Luckily the drinks were cold and the service was prompt. read more

I really like to support local businesses and not go to the chains. Chretin's food might be excellent, but I would have no way of knowing because I walked in there at 8:42 p.m. and they said they'd already had "last call." Their listed hours say they close at 9. I definitely appreciate that staff need to get home and that closing should be an orderly procedure. But refusing to serve people who arrive well within listed hours seems a bad business practice. If they want to close early, there's an easy solution for that. Just change the hours posted both on this site and on the door. read more

I had not had Chretin's in a while since I'm not in Yuma often. A co-worker wanted to try it so we came for dinner around 8pm. They were still crowded with business, which is always a good sign. We ordered our food and waited. While waiting a gentlemen came by and asked if we wanted him to make some fresh guacamole and we ordered some. It was really good! The food did not take terribly long to come out and it was hot and fresh. My co-worker had the El Diablo burger and fries and I got the Chile verde pork dinner with rice and beans. It also comes with your choice of flour or corn tortillas. I chose flour. The Chile verde had a nice spice to it! I do wish the plate had came with some pico de gallo and sour cream to put with the items on the tortillas. That's just a personal preference however. The waitress was a little slow on refills and stuff, but they were busy. The building is very nice and it's a causal environment. I will go back and try another menu item the next time I'm there. read more

It was not the best but it was not the worst. The prices were pricey I can agree with other reviews, especially for the amount and quality of food. The enchiladas were very hard to cut which I found odd and a bit off putting but they were tasty. The rice and beans were delicious in my personal opinion. The first bowl of chips and salsa are free (small portion size) but there is a charge for more. The best meal we had were the albondigas! They were so very close to my mother's (even she agreed). The service was slow for not having that many customers but friendly staff. The bathroom was clean, lighting was calming, comfortable booths, and interesting history. read more

Husband and I came here while visiting. Let's just say that if you've had Mexican food in California, this is probably 3/10. The restaurant is styled like a typical Mexican restaurant. They have an outdoor patio dining area. The indoor area is okay, clean. However they have some kind of pleather on top of the table which was odd. Also, the table we were at was off balance so it kept rocking whenever pressure was applied to any side. Our waitress took our drink orders right away. We did wait awhile for these. My husband ordered a beer that never came. No biggie, there's a bar off to the side you can order drinks at. I ordered a coronarita, not bad, not great. For appetizer we ordered the "killer nachos" (I think this is what they were called). I saw a picture on yelp of these and couldn't believe it lol. Like I can't actually believe these are a menu item. It's a chip with melted cheese and a jalapeño on top. Never have I ever . $8 for 12 chips. There is another option for nachos which is actually the nachos most people expect, I believe they're called the Baja Nachos. We ordered our food, and it came out relatively quick. I ordered an asada and enchilada plate. The asada was pretty dry. I only ate the enchilada which was meh. Rice and beans were meh. My husband got the chimichanga which was good. Service was lacking for sure. Granted, we came with a very large party. How is management going to have ONE waitress for 30 people? That girl needs a raise. read more

This place is usually a go but, tonight hostess closes bar area because bartender has a large party sitting outside. But, every table inside the bar area is empty. Nothing like guacamole made table-side to order to make you feel like the prettiest girl at the ball. I had no idea when we sat down that Chretins made guacamole and salsa table-side, but when the cart showed up I was really excited. So was my wife who rarely gets to enjoy guacamole because she can't stand the taste of cilantro. But, since it was made to order, we were able to get the cilantro excluded and it was still quite delicious. I had the rolled tacos which were very tasty and full of crunchy goodness. My grandpa ordered the chili rellano and was definitely disappointed that the pepper was smothered in sauce and cheese. He said that he could barely taste the chili and all the cheese upset his stomach, but he just noted that the next time he comes he'll ask for no cheese and sauce on the side. It seems that this place is either good or very bad. The Cadillac Margaritas on the rocks were very sweet and not that good. When we mentioned that this was not very good no offer to correct them but decided to drink them anyway. Then we were open to try again which was worse than the first ones which we could not drink. My wife had a basic chicken burrito with a red sauce that was totally inedible. I had a different meal that was just ok. The manager was nice comping one margarita and the burrito which was appreciated. Too bad as our previous visit was very good. For us to come back I would have expected better response but do recognize that they tried. With that in mind, highly doubtful we will come back. read more
