Excellent experience. Arrived at 6pm with my brother. Greeted at door and promptly seated. Chips and salsa were plentiful and the service was professional and friendly. Large restaurant and very clean. I ordered pork carnitas which came with a bountiful amount of rice, beans and avocado salad. My only knock would be the pork was not crispy and caramelized like i would expect but it was hot and juicy. Could only eat about half my food and look forward to the rest today. Same great food they have been making for years. Hasn't changed since I was a kid. I stop in every time I am back in Pitt and it's always good. You get an entire plate of food for $10-12. If you wanted you could eat more chips and salsa and really have enough for two meals. Staff has been the same great individuals over the years. The queso is one of the best I've had and most places don't come close to the taste and consistency. The salsa is just the perfect mix of not being too light but not too heavy as well. Had fantastic VIP like service when we are there on a Friday night. We even caught the tail end on Happy hour. The food was delicious and filling. The cheese dip was decadent! I can't wait to return to my hometown again just to eat with your restaurant. We had a successful date night dinner on a Friday. Oh my. Don't know what to say about this place. Salsa tastes just like spaghetti sauce. Cheese dip served cold. 4 entrees for our table and not one of them was good. Overall a very horrible food experience. Service was fast and pleasant but it doesn't make up for the food. read more

We placed a take out order. I arrived on time and waited an additional 40 minutes for the food. Dine-in patrons were waiting just as long to be served. It was obvious the restaurant is understaffed. Just moved into the neighborhood and was looking for some great Mexican food and found this place and it fits the bill to a "T"! Great atmosphere with daily specials and generous portions. If you like it hot ask for their hot salsa, very good and not too hot. Cheese sauce is excellent, service is exceptional and .99 cent margaritas on Sunday can't be beat and there not watered down. The lunch specials are really affordable, great Mexican food for less than you would probably spend at Taco Bell with full service and a nice ambiance. Definitely worth a try. Great service! Great food! Very clean place, they have nice granite top tables and bar. I used to eat here a few years ago and loved it for the food and service, but now they have remodeled and it looks fantastic! The desserts are a must try! They have a display case as you walk in showcasing all of the desserts and your mouth will be watering! Highly satisfied with this place and definitely recommend it to anyone!!! read more

I'm staying at the Super 8 next door while my car is being worked on, and I noticed that they had $1.99 margaritas on Mondays. I expected the place to be packed, but it was surprisingly empty. That didn't keep the service from being slow, but it was admittedly friendly. The chips were great, but the salsa very literally tasted like plain tomato sauce. I asked if they had any spicy salsa, and luckily they did. Since this was my first time there I decided to sample the small servings of queso and guacamole. They arrived at the same time as the hot salsa. Hot salsa: not bad, but not much flavor or spice. Definitely better than the sugary tomato sauce. Queso: Again, not bad, but not much flavor. Didn't finish it. Guacamole: Terrible. It was obviously something from a can and not homemade or authentic. Tasted and had the consistency of baby food. Beef fajitas: giant skillet of beef, onions, and green peppers, a separate plate of Mexican rice and refried beans with a tiny bit of sour cream, lettuce and pico, and three small tortillas. No plate on which to create the fajitas. The meat plate was very salty and there was only enough sour cream for one tortilla. I ended up boxing up half of the meat and veggies because I ran out of tortillas and no one came around for me to ask for more until they brought the check. Still, my tab, including three outstanding margaritas, came out to $23. Is it good, authentic Mexican food? Not if the food I had was any indication. Was it good good at a reasonable price? Definitely. Any Monday I'm broken down in Pittsburg with nothing better to do, I'm in. read more

We moved here from California 2 years ago, finding a decent Mexican restaurant has proven to be difficult until we found El Charro! Tonight they surpassed my expectations, in California we would get these nachos called "Espi Chips" well my husband called El Charro and requested something along those lines, the guy on the phone wasn't quite sure what we wanted, but when Robert explained what they were, the staff made them for us. Boy do I have to tell you, they were better than the nachos in California!! The chips were crispy, the green sauce and pork (chili verde) was seasoned perfectly and the white cheese on top was gooey! It was a perfect dinner for Mothers Day! Way to go El Charro! Best part was the price! We were able to take dinner home after my husband worked all day and just sit down to eat for a very reasonable price. We will definitely be back! read more
