Left to right: Tacos de lengua, al pastor, y carne asada ($1.95 each). Nothing super memorable.

I'm a sucker for Mexican food, but especially for those places that look super authentic; sometimes, the more no-frills/hole-in-the-wall the spot is, the better it turns out to be, at least in my experiences. Naturally, I was excited to try El Chido, as it fits the description perfectly -- it's a no-nonsense Mexican market offering both Mexican grocery/produce/snack items, as well as hot food from a restaurant window in the back. I ordered three tacos at $1.95 a piece: one carne asada, one al pastor, and one lengua. The service was prompt, and I was pleased that I didn't have to wait long at all before my tacos were ready at the window. As for the food itself, though, I wasn't completely floored. The carne asada was solid and had a somewhat decent level of seasoning, but nothing super out of the ordinary. The lengua was passable and pretty tender, but was missing a bit more flavor. The portion of meat in my al pastor taco, unfortunately, had quite a lot of fat chunks, and made for a chewy and kind of unpleasant experience. Not the worst place I've ever been to, but I was definitely a tad disappointed considering how authentic the atmosphere feels. I guess the hole-in-the-wall hypothesis doesn't work every time... oh well, can't win 'em all.

Good place to get your fill of Mexican food on the cheap! The restaurant is in the back part of a Mexican grocery store. Food was good, came out in around five minutes per order, and enough seating to accommodate groups of around ten or so. If you are looking to drink a few beers with your meal, might want to go somewhere else.

Being from Los Angeles and eating tacos all over the places, this is hands down the best tacos in Montgomery

This has got to be the only place in Alabama where you can find Pupusas. The tacos were good, and the Pupusas were good too. I got two tacos al pastor and 1 Pupusa with chicharron and queso-all very delicious! Love the salsa bar. Lived in CA for a few years (and my wife is from Mexico) and this place is as good as you can find in Alabama. So 5 stars (probably 3.5 stars if located in California or a state with any decent competition)

Tucked away in the back of a Mexican market is a small counter serving the best Mexican food I've tasted. A friend from Mexico recommended this place as authentic and I'm very impressed. Fresh and delicious.

It has a very open dining room and accent lights along the walls. We had a young man named Jackson as our server. He seemed a bit timid but provided great service. He made suggestions on dishes and made sure we had what we needed as the meal progressed. My friend, who has frequented this place before stated that their menus were new. I have included photos of the food menus. For me, they weren't very user friendly or organized well. Either way, we figured it out. The dishes were generous in portions and very very delicious! I had the meal #44 which is the Naked Pablano Pepper which I got with chicken. My friend took Jackson's recommendation of the #32 which is the Plato de Carnitas. Great experience. Would definitely come back!

The slow-cooked brisket tacos are absolutely on point: tender, rich, and packed with flavor that keeps me coming back. It feels like a place you can count on, whether it's your first visit or your tenth.

He was incredible. Not enough positive feedback could properly articulate his service for our large group! Jose was equally as attentive while we were planning before we arrived to Montgomery and made it so seamless even a quick check in day of the confirm location. The food was killer! We had a little bit of everything: * build your own queso (SO good. A whole meal, really.) * lots of fajitas * tacos * carne asada * chimichangas * and more... All was so good! Kudos to everyone! Definitely recommend. The restaurant itself is such a vibe - building is cute, easy parking.
