It came with 2 sauces. The green was a bit weak. The pink was very tasty. Neither was hot(to me). One note is that I got almost no meat in each taco. They were very tasty. Waited an hour for 4 tacos. Was told 20 min - that was after I paid btw. Then was told another 20 minutes but it turned into 40 for a title of an hour. Crazy. Caught some street tacos from this food truck at Exchange Place. I went with the taco platter which is 3 mixed protein tacos, with a side of rice and beans. The rice migrated to the tacos during my walk back to the office. I had al pastor and shrimp. Proteins were good. I like the tortilla. We went here for the first time after a long day. We were really excited to try this place out because we've heard great things about them! First off I loved how the burrito came in two sizes depending on how hungry you were. The burrito was tasty and to my added delight, the rice was seasoned with garlic or something and was light, fluffy and delicious. Maybe my friends and I should have gotten the large burrito because it didn't stop us from getting a set of shrimp tacos. I'm glad we did because the tacos were very tender and full of flavor. After that experience my S.O. and I ordered delivery from them a week later (we don't live too close to them but had a taco craving). But let me tell you, nothing beats the freshness of that "straight from the truck" taste. In addition, the owner is the nicest guy! We have 30 + employees and they all order different things each week but the chilaquilles are a big hit and so are the shrimp tacos. Those are our favorites! The customer service is so great that we ask the owner to come every Saturday. They have a great variety of drinks as well. I don't understand the comments on price, the quality of products used are worth every cent. I find their prices cheap compared to the price changes in Jersey City restaurants/food trucks. These guys were at Riverview park in JC Heights for the farmers market. Unlike many other Mexican food trucks, they have a strong vegetarian menu. Also had fish tacos, which most Mexican trucks don't have. $10 for fish taco plate, 3 small tacos with black beans and rice. I really liked that the fish tacos were not battered and fried. I was sort of hoping for the Indian truck when I got off the Path the other night. But El Chilango was the only truck parked at Grove. Our food truck culture in Jersey City isn't *quite* there yet, so we're lucky if one truck shows up at all on a given night, especially early in the week. I wanted a cheap meal and you can't beat a $5 burrito as a cheap, freshly prepared dinner. Full disclosure: the $5 one is the small and it is in fact on the dainty side. To get a full-sized burrito, it'll set you back $8. The tacos are not huge as other reviewers have mentioned, but I think they're pretty standard sized. They come with toppings and whatnot and tend to spill on your lap as you eat them, so what more do you want, people? A butler to come and wipe your chin for you? Anyway, the guys running this truck are as nice as can be. Give this truck a try. I don't think you'll be sorry. read more

I hate that I'm using my 200th review for a 2-star experience, but alas, this is what I'm in the mood to write about right now. El Chilango -- pretty close to a fail. I should have read between the lines when I asked my Mexican friend if he wanted me to pick him something up from the truck, and he politely said no. He would later go on to explain why and I concur with his analysis. I now understand why this truck, unlike the many others in the area, never has a line outside it. I can only speak to the spicy beef torta that I ordered. It didn't taste bad, per se. It just didn't taste like much of anything. I'm used to the tortas I used to get out in Brooklyn -- nice, big, round, crusty, fluffy rolls holding in a stack of delicious ingredients and bursting with flavor in every bite. Not really happening here. The torpedo roll El Chilango uses is very pedestrian, and narrow in size. It's incapable of holding that much food, which means you're getting a lot less value for your money than you might realize. (And you'll be hungry later.) And the ingredients it does hold when you first get it all start to fall out the second you try and eat it. Simply stated, this is not a good torta eating experience. Some have suggested I try other things on the menu, but given how meh the ingredients all tasted on the torta, I can't really imagine them getting any better in a different assembly or formation. Nothing like the tough, minuscule shrimp I get at my usual place in Park Slope. Definitely worth the wait (10-15 minutes). I am always excited to see the taco truck near the Grove Street PATH. Normally I am not a food truck person since I am neurotic about cleanliness. This is why I don't eat at Taqueria Downtown anymore after seeing their kitchen once. The taco truck guys, by contrast, are always cleaning when they are not cooking, and they are very friendly, prompt, and fair with portions and pricing. My boyfriend likes the tacos and the large burritos will fill you up. However, the sopes and huaraches are my favorite. Oh man. The proprietor told me that they often run out of the sopes early when they're parked elsewhere, but the huaraches are also awesome. Love the hot sauce. read more

I feel totally ripped off. I created this account just to submit a review. Having missed the Farmer's Market across the street by a mere 15 minutes, I decided to try out one of the taco trucks. After a quick Yelp search, I decided upon this one. It definitely wasn't worth it. For 5 dollars (plus a 2 dollar tip), I ordered 2 tacos - fish and steak. I was a bit surprised at how quickly the food was prepared because the guy manning the truck seemed to take his time preparing the orders of the two people ahead of me. It wasn't until I got home that I realized that I had been had. The steak taco was just a small taco with a tiny bit of (tasteless) steak on it. That was it. No toppings at all. What I saw before me looked nothing like the pictures uploaded on Yelp. The fish taco was well prepared and that's the only reason why I'm giving this any stars at all. But I won't be returning for seconds any time soon. There is nothing I hate more than dishonesty. read more

Yum! I have seen this truck outside the Grove Street Path station a few times. Decided to give it a whirl for dinner this week as I love mexican and JC seems to be lacking in that dept. Everything on the menu sounded tasty however I am a taco girl so wasted no time deciding. Tacos are 3/$7 or a platter w/ rice and beans for $10. I got the platter - 1 chicken, 1 pork, 1 fish. These are as close to authentic tacos as you can get. They are the small kind, about the size of your palm, but the fillings were tasty.
