After a ridiculous long wait for a bus, my group decided just to hike it over to El Churry. One of their trucks was just a mile from our condo in Isla Verde. At first glance you see a bright green food truck with flames calling your name. My sister had this one bookmarked because she saw it on Man v. Food. He claimed it was the best chicken he's ever eaten. We ordered 8 total (one for each person). I had to have my churrasco fresh at the truck. I quickly scarfed it down. Beautiful flavored churrasco meat, potato sticks, veggies, and that bomb sauce all in a wrap. Everything was really good. Toasting or warming up that wrap would have made it one notch higher with that extra flavor element. I tried the mixto, but I was drawn to the flavor of skirt steak. What can I say? I love beef! THIS IS THE LATE NIGHT STOP OF THE CENTURY. I absolutely love El Churry... it's the bomb, and a big reason why this Hawaiian has a hard position when my girlfriend and I discuss whose island has the superior cuisine. I'm surprised that I am the first to Yelp about this amazing sandwich stand, so familiar with local San Juan residents. The Tripleta is, quite easily, one of the most simple yet delicious concoctions that Puerto Rico has graced my world with. El Churry is similar, except that it really is a Churrasco and Pollo (Steak and Chicken) sandwich, topped with a variety of toppings including potato sticks, tomatoes, lettuce, all on a bread that is so delicious and easy to handle with each BIG bite. The sauces that are used are mouth-watering good -- I'm guessing a simple mix of ketchup and mayonaisse, coupled with the delicious 'sabor' from the steak and chicken marinade (perhaps a sofrito? most likely...), there is SO MUCH flavor in this sandwich. This place has sandwiches ranging from $5 to $7, is open until 4 am, and has been around since about 1997. We all party hard in PR... so I'd suggest taking a 2am cab and visiting the Isla Verde stand (this Roosevelt stand is the original... the Isla Verde one is pretty good too). Food trucks have quickly become a "thing" in the U.S. And undoubtedly, great things have emerged from said "thing". In Puerto Rico however, food trucks have always been a "thing", and the American public got to get a taste of just how good that "thing" can be thanks to Adam Richman and his show Man vs. Food. Although he came to take on the famous "Sleeping Cow" challenge at the famous Vaca Brava, it was his small stint at food truck El Churry that, in my opinion, stole the show. And rightly so. The flavors that the fellows at El Churry have coaxed out of the simple staple that is the sandwich are quite remarkable. And trust me, this is as simple as it gets. You pick between chicken or skirt steak and decide whether you want cheese or not. Any choice you make out of those will be the right one I assure you, but if you really want to taste the full extent of El Churry's powers, you need to go for a "mixto": a combination of both the chicken and steak that, along with some cheese and the order of bacon I tell you that you must order, will make you wonder why you haven't traveled to Puerto Rico sooner to eat here and will probably have you planning your next visit as you eat. read more

Last night, I made my wife drive me to El Churry so I could try their Mixto Burrito again. I was not disappointed on my second trip to El Churry! The burrito had some beef in it, chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and something crunchy (like Fritos). It was a large burrito and it was only six bucks! Yummy! While they are only open Wed-Saturday from 7pm till 4am it is worth waiting for these days! When my boyfriend and I stayed in Puerto Rico we ate here 3 of the 4 nights they were open. The Mixto is superb. Perfectly cooked meat, stuffed into the softest semi-sweet bread I have ever tasted with lettuce, tomato, potato sticks(!!!!!) and lettuce and tomato. Add the bacon, its only $1 more, which will make your sandwich, which includes a soda, only $7!!! You can't beat that price. Each night we went there was a line. The guys who run the truck are super friendly. I am ready to take a flight back to PR on a Wednesday just so I can eat El Churry 4 days in a row! As an epicurian, i spotted this food truck on the food network tv before to head to PR. This gem is only open at night, cash only, few seatings, and gives you 3 options: el churry sandwish, burger and wrap. Burger was great and huge. But the highlight was definitely the Churry sandwish. I opt in for "mixto" with cheese (beef+chicken): great choice. Bread, meat and toppings are succulent. The sauce is also good and they put some type of chips inside that looks like mini french fries, it definitely adds a nice texture. El Churry is not too big or small but could use a bit "picante" which i am always up for in my sandwich. Overall, i definitely understand why food network featured this place. It is a great place to eat and change the taste in your palate while savings few bucks (eat like a king for less than $10). Just order "El Churry mixto con queso y todos" with a "jugo de parcha" (passion fruit juice) and you will understand. Quick tip: the address on the yelp page and other websites are inaccurate. When good local spots are exposed on the likes of mainstream television shows, I tend to stay away. Maybe I just like the chase, or maybe Im just selfish like that. This restaurant has been featured on "Man vs Food" and though Adam tends to eat at a lot of hidden gems, I still had my doubts El Churry, though, shattered my doubts. It truly is an experience and the food is spot on. Though there are really only 4 choices on the menu; burger, chicken or churrasco or mixed, they take to heart the mantra that less is better. It is one of the best hand crafted sandwiches I have ever eaten. The meat is perfectly cooked and juicy and complements the crispy fries, lettuce, tomato and ketchumayo like peanut butter does to jelly. Their bread is like a pita/roll hybrid and may be my new favorite way to transport a sandwich; that is to say, to my mouth. If you can find the truck, enjoy, if you cant, just ask around, most of the locals know this spot as they have probably ventured here after a long night of drinking. Sober, drunk, or in between, El Churry will satisfy your need for the perfect dinner/late night meal. PS, they are only open Wed-Sat from 6pm until 4am. read more

How i found this place was due to an episode of Man vs. Food and got my interest off the bat and did not disappoint!! I Hunted this truck down for three nights because a lot of the locals did not know about this truck and I didn't know the hours , so for those that don't know wed-sat there at 7pm til late night , TRUST all worth it! I ended up getting the mixto and churrasco , and churrasco was my favorite , tender meat , in a soft bread with a lettuce , tomato , potato sticks , and , mayoketchup , as simple as that sounds it will make your mouth salivate and your pallet experience a piece of late night heaven. Being from Los Angeles , I have had good eats , but I know that the next time I touch down in PR , I will parachute off the plane just to land in front of that truck! read more

I saw the review for this truck on men vs food so I was very excited to try it. I went yesterday sat at 6, they weren't ready until 6:30 which is understandable, delays happen. I couldn't taste the chicken and churasco because they were covered by the mayo catchup sauce, so I would had preferred it with light or no sauce and I am the type of person that loves sauces, it was too much in my opinion, I couldn't finish it because the sauce was very heavy mayo. I recommend they modify their sauce and call it el churry sauce and ask the customers if they want it light or heavy because my sandwich was soaked in sauce. We took it to go and ate it at my girlfriends cousins place. It was very tasty and everything mixed well together. Me and my girlfiend vacationed in PR last September, like the good foodies that we are, we had a list of the places we NEEDED to eat, one was EL CHURRY of course, we finally got to el churry, are about 3 AM and just like you'd think it was, it was PACKED, in a total controlling manner, the guy served us our sandwiches and WOW we went to heaven, we loved them so much we came the following next two nights. There's nothing like sitting on the trunk of one's car eating a Churry sandwich. It's a local institution. Open late. The best way to describe this to my stateside friends is to call it Jimmy Johns on steroids. The bread is better, slightly soft with a crunch element. The toppings are pilled on high. They're basic, mayoketchup, lettuce, tomatoes and French's potato sticks, but they all have a role to play. Sorry Jimmy John's, your roast beef doesn't come close to El Churry's churrasco (every time I eat JJs late night, I'm really thinking about El Churry. Sorry, Jimmy John's). Nice and hearty and warm (Jimmy John's, if you're reading this, please get the hint, invest in some toasters or something). Racist. Non Puerto Rican's get no service. Waited for 20 minutes to make my order. Never got a chance. The employees saw me attempting to order multiple times, but continually passed me over to serve the locals. BTW, I freaking live here. This business has been operating for quite a few years with great success. This sandwich bus has literally saved my life quite a few times. After a night of partying, drinking and all that I need something quick, meaty, delicious and affordable to withhold all the alcohol and keep on partying. Unless you go to a greaseball place like Denny's this will get you fed and happy at 3am no problem. Line may seem long but it goes pretty fast. I took a star out because they can be pretty inconsistent. You may think that after so many years in the market they would have their pretty simple recipe down to a science but seems like staff are way more party people than you think you are. Sometimes they are delicious and sometimes it needs more mayo or ketchup. Still, no better food served from a bus. PERIOD! read more

While on vacation in Puerto Rico, we had to try this spot out since it was one of the many we saw on Man vs Food. Funny thing is I wanted to find a restroom nearby before we actually got to the El Churry truck. So following the map on my phone I look up and see a Burger King. I drive over to the side street there and voila! El Churry was right there! So for anyone that can't see it from the main street, it's next to the Burger King. We arrive about 10 minutes before they official open at 5:30pm Friday. They set up some lawn chairs for people to sit and that's where we decided to wait. We ordered the Mixto Sandwich with everything on it. From Man vs Food, the sandwich looks a lot bigger. Looked smaller than expected when its wrapped up. We were hungry so we ate pretty fast. But for the taste... there's better sandwiches out there. I felt that the meats weren't seasoned or marinated. I tasted the lettuce, tomato, and mayo more than I tasted the meats. Being part Puerto Rican I expect amazing flavored foods that you could get anywhere on the island. So I was a little disappointed that it wasn't exploding with flavor. I will never forget El Churry. Leaving EDC to walk for 35 minutes before finding a cab. Then taking 10 minutes to try to explain to my cab driver that I wanted the famous Churry. You know, maybe the information age isn't a good thing. Maybe too many people are getting just a little too excited by being on vacation and really letting their hair down with a few drinks and a "wild food cart experience", but man was I underwhelmed. To read the reviews of this truck and specifically the mixto with bacon and cheese, you'd think this sandwich was the second coming of Christ! Well, I'm here to tell you it was just alright. I'm not saying don't get one, I'm not saying this place sucks or the guys who run it don't work hard and love their mothers, I'm saying there is too much damn hype about this truck. Maybe it was my fault that I ate there sober while so many other reviewers are talking about their post bar late night excursion, but then at 3am moldy pizza can be mind blowing.
