    Mixed ceviche

This place was recommended by a local after we had told him we had enjoyed dining at a different seafood place. He said that if we thought that was good, then we would love the food at El Dorado, and that it was where all of the locals ate seafood and better priced. He was absolutely right. Nothing fancy, but the food was wonderful. We went back multiple times during our trip. The mixed ceviche was a standout and the portion was very generous. We also had octopus, shrimp, and grilled and fried fish tacos, as well the mixed and shrimp empanadas, and guacamole. Everything was fantastic and we paid an incredibly reasonable price for a huge amount of food that we could hardly even finish. Very fresh, the best salsa we had in Mexico yet, and perfectly flavored. Just returned back home and I miss El Dorado already!

But the dinner my daughter and I had was delicious. We were seated right away. Up to the roof top we go. There are 4 levels to this restaurant. Each has their own vibe. The service was top notch, always attentive to our needs. Everyone was very friendly here. This restaurant is great for large groups. They have a number of rooms that can accommodate 15 to 20 people in an intimate setting. The roof top view is cool if you are a people watcher. Give it a try, you will be glad you did.

Out front of Good Burger, it was hard to tease out which menu was for what restaurant, but I guess it didn't matter because the second floor was the bar where the night cap was made and brought upstairs. Up on the rooftop, the setting was whimsical, naturey, romantic. It was great to sit on cushiony seats under dim lighting with lots of greens hanging above and on the walls. The street view below was, well, of the street. For a weekend night, it was desolate and for awhile, we had the whole roof to ourselves (minus the two servers with nothing to do). For my one drink, I selected a mojito swoon (ginger, lime). It was pretty much a very refreshing lemonade with only a slight hint of alcohol - but that's the theme in most cocktails I had in Tulum. Our poor waitress came by several times to check in on us out of boredom, which was nice, but also weird at the same time given it was clear the place was dead, so it seemed like she was coming to our table too often.

The space was gorgeous... like rustic, jungle chic. It seemed a little out of place on the main strip (it looked very different than most of the other places), but that's what drew us in. They had a menu of inventive cocktails that featured local ingredients (guanabana, mango, coconut milk) and lots of different types of mezcal. The drinks were delicious and the music and atmosphere was awesome. It felt like a Brooklyn bar transplanted into Mexico (sorry if I sound like a snobby New Yorker :-)). There were only 2 other people in the bar, the bartender, Ulysses, and the owner (I think), Jonathan. They were 2 super friendly young guys. They gave us a brief history of Mezcal and told us all about the different local ingredients they used. I think this place only opened a few months ago. It seemed like business may be a bit slow, but we drove by late at night a few days later and it was pretty crowded. The crowd was all tourists, European expats, etc... no locals... I didn't even see any locals working there. I loved the bar, but I love supporting locals, so I feel a little odd giving such a colonized place 5 stars, so solid 4 stars from me. If you're looking for a cool a cool bar to have a tasty cocktail, definitely check it out.

*AVOID, TOURIST TRAP, DISHONEST, RIP OFF *…read more II stumbled upon this location because I was looking for the business that was previously at this location called Mezcal Nakawae. Interestingly enough, they do serve mezcal from Nakawae I saw it on their shelf, but they now call themselves Fruity Cocktail Bar. I was beyond disappointed with my visit and would give 0 stars if possible. The previous business had rave 5 star reviews, a great mezcal menu, mezcal cocktail menu, and a food menu I was interested in. When I arrived the bartender greeted me, and that was about it. So I proceeded to sit down ( I was the only one in the bar) and asked about a food menu. She said they don't have any food. Okay no problem, so I asked about a cocktail or mezcal menu. She responded "no menu, the menu is in my head". Okay so tell me more... she would just respond and leave it at that. So I asked -- do you have different mezcals, can you explain to me the difference between the ones you stock, or do you recommend a shot or a cocktail? With the language barrier she said " you want shot?" No -- so I further requested she give me some info. If you don't have a menu, and you say it's in your head -- you need to tell me what's in your head?!? She ended up making me a cocktail with pineapple juice, some soda water, and mezcal. mediocre at best. I was ready to leave after that first drink - and I heard here say 150 pesos, relatively fair. Then I handed her the money and she said " NO. 250 PESOS". That's a joke. That is MORE than drinks on the playa! This area should be no more than 100 or 150 PESOS MAX -- talking to both a local and another bartender from Hermana Republica. Also if you do the math that is $14 USD for a cocktail, that is a bad joke if I ever heard one. But I'm not an asshole, so I paid her silently, and left. I am revolted by this establishment and highly suggest everyone avoid, do not waste your time or money here. Rude, dishonest , unhelpful " service" if you can even call it that.

We waited inside why they cooked our order. The atmosphere was cool, very trendy, clean and designed beautifully with an in door out door seating option. They wrap them in banana leaves and let me tell you they were crazy good! When I first saw them I was little like disappointed. I thinks because I stupidly thought the banana leaves was the actual shell of the burritos not that the tortillas is also inside the leaves. However, my disappointment quickly vanished as I took on bite. These burritos were fire!!!!!

On top of everything tasting amazing, all of their food is made fresh and cooked only in fresh oils (no seed oils!), which is a massive plus. They also have great vegan and vegetarian options.
