Desserts on this attempt included tres leches cake, flan, tiramisu and several neon colored jello cups. There are also some individual sized sweet breads and other indigenous treats. Trish and I mainly came back to try the savory items. She selected a chicken burrito and for myself a few steak tacos. The burrito was slightly different that I normally encounter, rice is not an ingredient and the pollo was the star of the show. Lettuce, onions, tomatoes, refried beans and some cheese were also components. Trish liked but not loved it, I liked it more and might choose it as a lighter lunch. The steak tacos were very good, served in typical " authentic" style. The meat was tender and nicely seasoned, though they might have benefitted from just a few more raw onions and cilantro sprigs. There are 8 four seater tables and the entire business seemed very clean. The few employees I encountered were friendly and could answer all of my annoying bread questions. I am reluctant to go to 4 stars on this first try, but I can see myself coming back when nearby and in the mood for some Mexican food. They also will special order for you up to 7 pm the night before to have ready for pick-up the next morning. 4 stars alone for this service. I only wish I had known about this sooner. It's a trek to get decent bread from anywhere from my house. At 8:30 am they only had 3 loaves, so I'd suggest stopping in on the early side if you desire a loaf of chewy, crunchy goodness. Otherwise this is a standard Heritage's. Nothing fancy & it still looks the same as it did 20 years ago. No bells & whistles like the newly upgraded Super Wawa down the street, but it's a lot easier to get in and out of here on your way to 295 from Woodbury. And they feel more like a local neighborhood shop. I'm sure I'll be back just for that bread.

The store is very clean and well kept. The girl who is usually behind the counter is SO nice and always smiling every time I go in and makes me feel really at home. You will typically find me here to buy chorizo but when my husband comes in, all bets are off and we end up buying half of the store! When you walk in, to the left are the sweets (mantecadas, gansitos, principe etc.) and chips (churritos, rancheritos, crujitos etc.). It literally feels like a little piece of heaven. Then, there are isles with all kinds of Mexican canned and jarred goods, cueritos, jello mixes, rompope, sodas. There are fresh chiles and all kinds of cooking supplies (molcajete, vaporero etc.) Towards the back are refrigerators where the vegetables, quesos, meats (chorizo, longaniza), pre-made jellos and avocados are all kept. Recently, they started carrying fresh tortillas, bread, home made potato chips and pan dulce. One time we went and they had fresh bunuelos....to die for! They also make their own tamales (rojo, verde and rajas). I've tried the rojo and verde and the verde is THE best I've had in the area and I will definitely go here to get it from now on! Word to the wise: the tamales are only available on Saturdays and Sundays and start at 8:00AM. If you go too late, they will run out!

Their website describes these tomatoes as "grown in the Sarnese Nocerino area of Italy, renowned for its especially fruitful soil as a result of tis proximity to Mount Vesuvius. [These tomatoes] are certified by an independent third party agency to ensure their superior quality. They are perfect for making homemade sauces and are hand picked only when ripe, giving them a distinctively sun ripe and sweet taste." We use the Cento San Marzano tomatoes often and my husband like the Cento Flat Filet Anchovies, especially on his pizza slices. Their canned tomatoes (e.g., Italian Style Peeled Tomatoes, San Marzano Peeled Tomatoes, All Purpose Crushed Tomatoes) are more expensive than Hunts and of course more expensive than "Great Value" brand; however we have to pay for quality products! I've tried Cento olive oil and found it to be a delicious, high quality product, too! I think their branding and packaging is lovely, also! It gives the products a truly refined look and feel! This shop is most excellent. They have a TON of fruits and vegetables for really good (borderline CHEAP!) prices. My favorites are the freshly sliced pineapple (other fruits are offered too), raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and "overly ripe" bananas for only $1.00/bag (about 10 in there!). I use these for a snack that I make with uncooked oats and chocolate chips. The very front of the store offers freshly made (healthy!) smoothies. The pineapple, carrot, kale is my favorite. So, if you don't want to get ice-cream, pizza, etc., junk fried food at the BFM, stop in here! You won't be disappointed!
