Some days the salsa is more flavorful and some days it is bland. Pollo in mole: Mouth-watering! A bit more sweet than savory with a spicy kick! Served over shredded chicken breast. I don't know who hurt this restaurant, but they are taking it out on the food. Came in hungry, left betrayed. Chips were stale, salsa tasted like tomato-flavored water, and the tacos had so little meat I thought it was a garnish. Rice was dry, beans were sad, and somehow my cold drink was warm. Only thing that worked perfectly was the exit. read more

Have you ever seen Ratatouille? When the food critic tastes the Ratatouille, and it takes him back to his mother's kitchen? We went to el Gallito, ordered Bistek Ranchero with Flour Tortillas. Let me tell you, as soon as I opened the tortilla holder the smell of the fresh Tortillas took me back to my mom's kitchen. As crazy as it sounds, almost made me cry, especially because my mom's been gone for 10 years. The Tortillas smeeled like flour, they were soft, pliable & delicious. This is very good hood & fast, friendly service. I shared my experience with my waitress & she shared it with the tortilla lady in the kitchen. We came for breakfast, the staff is very friendly. Different plate options than usual menus. The service & food is excellent! Bacon is cooked completely & crisp. Homemade tortillas are delicious. The french toast was great. The menudo was very flavorful too. You have to try the Gordita breakfast plate! read more

Based on other reviews, we went to El Gallito for breakfast yesterday. Everyone ordered something different in our group of four and all were happy with the food and the super friendly staff. I live in Illinois and cannot find good chilaquiles anywhere there, so I dream about them between trips here to visit my in laws. These did not disappoint! My sister-in-law had menudo, which was a large portion, and she said it was delicious. My husband had barbacoa and eggs and loved it. My sister-in-law's husband had tacos and they looked delicious and he said they were. We were able to order lunch or breakfast items and it was about 10 am on a Sunday morning. Wasn't crowded and was a great experience. read more

Some of the best fish tacos I have ever eaten. Everything is wonderful. I've had fajita/street tacos, fish tacos, and quesadillas and I have been extremely satisfied every time. The chips and salsa are some of my favorites as well. These fish tacos compete and are maybe even better than my favorite places on the island. They give you beans and rice as well and they are also fantastic. I seem to forgot about this place when we come down, but I'll have to start to put it in the rotation. Very good. read more

Restaurant is mediocre at best. Food is bland, service wasn't great when we came in. We were asked to seat ourselves, didn't receive menus, silverware, and drink orders weren't taken until I asked. However, the waiter who took over, Guillermo, did a great job! But due to the poor food I cannot come back here again, nor can I recommend it to anyone else. read more

Typical Mexican Food at a higher price. I was a little shocked that the prices are a higher here than other restaurants of this type in the valley. May has to do with where the location is and more overhead? Anyway, the food was just average. My wife said "for average food, we can go to cheaper places." I could not disagree. read more

I haven't been back to El Gallito in years but my most recent experience left me very fulfilling with some awesome tasting food! Me and my family came with a table for 10+ on a Sunday morning. Granted the restaurant was packed full of people but thankfully our table was saved by family members. I ordered juevos rancheros with salsa on the side and a side of bacon. It was so good. Food came out hot and fresh. I have no complaints about the food the good part about this restaurant is that it gives huge portions that you wouldn't be able to eat in one sitting. Service was okay, I don't want to say bad because the waiters were running everywhere to accommodate to a full house. There were a few minor mistakes but still they didn't their best with a smile on their face. I would love to come back here for breakfast again it was very nice. read more

I was a first time customer and was not impressed with the quality or quantity of the food. It lacked ingredients. There was nothing supreme about the beef nacho supreme other than the price. Hardly had any cheese, lacked tomatoes and lettuce. The faquita meat was chopped so finely, it was minced, with little meat on the plate. I will say the restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. Considering all this I don't feel I received good value for my money. I definitely have received better supreme nachos elsewhere. With so many other Mexican restaurants to go to I Won't go back. read more

We were driving back from South Padre and wanted some Good home cooked authentic Mexican food and we were very impressed with not only good food but the service as well. Food is not Mexican American I can say it is authentic and not served with fake products that taste horrible. These are real beans _ real food . Portions are Devine. Rice is perfect not to soggy not to dry or brittle to chew. Staff is welcoming and tentative to ones needs. Family friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. Would recommend to family a friends.
