El Indio is...INTENSE. The restaurant is long and narrow, with only one aisle, creating a freeway of activity in the center. All staff wear earpieces, taking instructions and hurrying around at a frenzied pace. Guests in this aisle instinctively pick up their pace to match. This is NOT a Mexican restaurant where you feel at leisure nor will you experience a laid back discussion with the staff. However, it is interesting to watch the military style activity. Its become a mixed bag. There are plenty of servers but they seem confused as to who is covering what table. There are two kinds of music playing. The one you get to listen to is the music of the dead grandparents which dates back 60-80 years. The music coming out of the Kitchen is only 20 years old. Try to sit near here unless you want the funeral parlor tunes. My recent visit produced some odd food. It looked like a very careful person loaded the rice beans and salad and another person the dropped the burrito from a great height. It looked odd and tasted OK but was way too cheesy (Gringo cheese too) and contained way too little filling. The chips are good and fresh, the salsa is the best I have had in a long time. Real chunks of onion and tomato with just enough garlic and cilantro. The consistency was thicker and this was very very tasty but a little salty. read more

If I could I'd give it zero star ratings. First off the server was a little bit rude. Their cheese dip for the chips was cold. My husband got a soft taco and the meat wasn't even cooked all the way. My el Indio nachos were cold and so was my mom's. We wanted to have a nice dinner because I was visiting my mom, sister and baby niece. Will never go here again. 100% not worth it. The food took almost an hour to come out and it wasn't that busy. When we received our meals ( 10) they were all cold. Our server was great the entire time and apologized. Two dinner were sent back to just microwave and the others had requested to have theirs remade. We're guessing it was the manager who was rude and argued that the food came out hot. The rest of the party didn't feel comfortable having it remade at this point and just asked for their checks. The same manager stood at the register arguing with each party as we paid for our meals. Today's adventure in dining brought us to El Indio Mexican Grill and Bar in Clinton. Mrs. Joe was the first to try this place a few months ago but this Average Joe is trying it for the first time.  Calling in the order while sitting in traffic was my initial interaction with what would be the first of the friendly staff members that I would encounter. Picking it up would introduce me to two more of the very personable and amiable members of the crew. The place was dead but people would be getting off work soon so I imagine the place filling up fast. If the food is equal to the service this place has got to be a popular spot. Friendly staff and a spotless dining area, tells me that El Indio cares about providing a good product and service. A business in the food service industry that lacks a caring attitude doesn't seem to hard to find these days. Not at El Indio. Riding shotgun today on this carry out order was Chile Verde, Pastor Street Tacos, and Pollo Parrilla. Of course Chips, Salsa, and some Queso always tag along. My concerns about the food being as good as the people quickly faded away when we dug into what would turn out to be a fine meal. Everything was great. Hot, fresh, tangy when needed, spicy when expected, and plenty to satisfy the largest of appetites. El Indio has a nice menu with plenty of food/drink options that will require return visits and proper attention. I am glad that we stopped here for dinner today. This is my local go to place for Mexican food. Everything I have had thus far has been delicious, the service is great and the restaurant is very clean. We do take out also and have never had an issue with the order being right. Give it a try you will not regret it. read more

The service was good considering the poor server was limited by the fact that he had to contend with knowing the place serves items on the menu that were not going to be recommended by him. I appreciate the honesty he gave us. We asked for fresher chips, and he said in being honest that they prepare them in the morning and that they can't get them fresh to us. Really? Is it so hard to do fresh? Who wants cold stale chips? Then when our food finally came for everyone the food was cold for everyone. The plates were luke warm which is a bad sign in a Mexican restaurant. When we confronted the manager about it, He took offense. Some of our party just wanted theirs heated up in the microwave and some of them wanted it remade, but due to the way the manager responded made it very uncomfortable. read more

This was my first time going to this restaurant. I immediately liked the atmosphere, but louder music would not have disappointed me. I sat at a booth and not the bar. Usually when eating at a new Mexican restaurant, I get the chimichangas. This tactic has never failed me. If they are not good, chances are the rest of the menu will not be either. These chimichangas were the best I have had so far in the clinton/oak ridge areas. The salsa was also the best. The rice was not dry or overcooked and had a delicious and delicate flavor to them. I'm sure the puddle of cheese sauce under the chimichangas helped. The refried beans were great although did not have as much cheese on them as some places. However, having cheese on the chimichangas made up for it. Our waitress was exceptionally kind, prompt, and gave me a plethora of special days and hours without me asking. Their chorizo queso was delicious. I tried the steak and cheese burrito, so filling! The service was great and our waitress, she is such a hard worker! I tried my dads Indio burrito and basically had flames come out of my ears. Definitely a good one read more
