The staff was pleasant and made an effort to take care of us, but the overall execution could have been better. The food was average at best. Nothing was terrible, but nothing really impressed us or stood out as something we would be excited to come back for. We expected a little more based on the overall experience and left feeling underwhelmed. The ambiance had some positives -- the atmosphere had a nice feel and the setting had potential -- but it didn't fully match the experience we were hoping for. I have money and don't mind spending money but when the food is atrocious and greasy it's a slap in the face. Me and Alfred came for dinner around 7pm, this place used to be packed but it's a ghost town now. There were only 3 tables sat including us and the food took forever. Nachos had no chips and the quesadillas looked like they were days old! Service isn't the problem there it's the management, I've heard horror stories about the manager from former employees. Great neighborhood Mexican restaurant with colorful interior decor. The restaurant was busy and short staffed so service was a little slow but our server was very friendly and helpful. I had the Monterey Chicken which was smothered with cheesy goodness but a little dry. My sister and father had the Brisket Tacos and they completely cleaned their plate, so those tacos must have been good! My friend and I tried to order from another Mexican restaurant but it was closed, so we ordered from here instead, and were so glad we did! I've tried this restaurant a few times. Each time I hope the experience will be better. This time my dinner was terrible and the service was worse. Our waitress didn't engage with us at all. The strawberry daiquiri was ice and rum, with hardly any strawberries at all. The chicken in the salad was mostly gristle and nearly raw. The salad dressing came in those little plastic sealed cups. My husband's meal wasn't much better. The refried beans could hardly be called beans. Instead, they were a pasty puree. When I asked the waitress for a replacement for the salad, she could not have cared less about it. We didn't see her again until she came back with a new salad nearly 30 minutes later as my husband and friends were finishing their meals. Dropped in for a quick lunch. We were seated promptly and our drink order was taken. After reviewing the menu this place has all your normal Tex-Mex items. This is a nice restaurant one of only a few in town. The staff were friendly and provided excellent fast service. They have a nice patio in front which will be nice when it warms up. The prices for lunch are unbeatable and the food is of good quality. You don't need your banker on speed dial to come here. They have a lunch menu for those that need a quick bite before heading back to work. I ordered the speedy Gonzalez and it came complete with a taco , enchilada, rice or beans. Charming decor. The Michelada was very tasty. My husband and I split the Special Dinner. It consisted of a tostada, a tamale, a taco, a Relleno an enchilada an beans and rice. They get a two today. I come here maybe twice a month. It is my go to in lue of cooking. Kids love the chips and they have the white queso that you expect in a Mexican restaurant. Sundays kids eat for 99 cents. It is clean and the food is, let's say, what you should expect. Tonite I came in alone and sat at the bar. I ordered a Draft beer and chicken fajita nachos. (I always get chicken fajita nachos) The bar tender was a young guy and we shared some chit chat about beer and my wasted youth. The chip and salsa were good tonite. Sometimes they use too much cilantro. Oh yeah, the beer was cold and the glass was clean. My food was great. No complaints there. Two beers and my food was $19.74. They were big beers. Now the down side. First they turn the music down. I love this shit. But only when I am in a Mexican restaurant. But still I like the music, it adds to the obi once. Then they turn on the TV above my head REALLY loud. I complained and they turned it off. Then as I was eating, mid fork full, they turn off the lights at the bar. I complained and they turned them back on. I finished my meal, and as I started this review, while I finish my beer, they start scrubbing the floor behind the bar. First time at Pelancho's. Was promptly seated, place is cute. Our server was a young guy. Not very personable. Maybe I ticked him off when I ordered a margarita and he told me "Seymour county is a dry county." And I said "Seymour isn't a county." But whatever, I ordered a large Dos XX. One good thing: it is LARGE. And cold. The chips were warm, seemed homemade, good. Salsa was nothing special. Ordered the Tequenos for an app. Nothing special. Could be really unique, but basically flavorless without the "pepino" sauce which is heavy on the mayo and big chunks of pickles. The plate remained on the table until we left. Wife ordered the Tacos de Deshebradas. Gotta admit, the meat was tasty and the cilantro mix was good with it. But the "charro beans" have cut up pieces of hot dog in them! What? Never seen that before. There were also pieces of bacon, which is cool, but weanies? In Mexican beans? NOT! I had the shredded beef chimichanga (ok, I know chimis aren't really Mexican food). Overall it was okay. Except IT WASN'T FRIED. And it was smaller than what I'm used to, especially when it's referred to as "over stuffed." The meat inside had a nice flavor, the rice was dried out and the refried beans were meh. None of the plates were cleared during our meal but he did check on us a few times. Promptly brought the check and took the payment. I usually give new places a second chance, so we'll see what happens next time. read more

Experience at the door was fine. Walked in and asked if I could sit at the bar. Was greeted promptly and asked what I'd like to drink. I ordered a draft beer and was asked whether I'd like the large or the small. When I asked the ounces of each, the bartender showed me the mugs but didn't know the ounces. I ordered the larger-sized Dos Equis Amber. It was cold and delicious. The bartender asked if I'd like a menu and I said yes. She walked around the bar (I thought to get the menu for me) but instead came around to talk with the girl on a laptop that I think worked there because all the team members were surrounding her. After about five minutes, the bartender brings me a menu and disappears. The next time I see her (ten minutes later), she's texting on her phone in full view. She comes around, takes my order, puts it in, and then goes back to Laptop-girl. My food arrived incredibly fast. I ordered the Pelanchos Special. It tasted great but could have been hotter. I don't believe that it was cool because it had sat in the window or anything. The food was literally to me within two minutes of ordering. I ate the food but received no quality check on it because the bartender was next to laptop girl on her phone again. After my meal was finished, the bartender came and asked if I would like the check and brought it to me. She waited for me to put my card in, ran my card, and returned my ticket with neither a smile nor even eye contact. As she walked away, she tossed a "have a good day" over her shoulder to me and went on to whatever she was going to. I signed the copy and walked out the door. I have been in the food service industry for 15 years and have become decently successful in it over time. I would have spoken with the manager about this visit, but there was no manager present anywhere. The staff seemed like they had been left to run things on their own as evidenced by not being sure about rotation (I heard them asking each other three or four times about protection and who should be getting tables) in addition to the fact that a team member sitting at the bar off the clock and out of uniform asked another team member to go get her an unsweet tea because she felt weird walking into the kitchen out of uniform (the server she asked brought a sweet tea). Additionally, there was a man in an orange shirt and another girl behind the bar trying to figure out how to make a drink I'm guessing a guest ordered. The girl was reading out of some kind a paperback novel-looking book and they were surmising together what ingredients needed to go in the drink. There just seemed to be a complete lack of leadership and development for any of these team members. For the service to have been as slow as it was with a basically empty dining room on a Tuesday night is just not OK especially in a town as food service critical as Seymour can be. I've had several experiences here before but none of them had ever wow'ed me. This experience wow'ed me, but unfortunately because of how poor the overall experience was. I think this will have been the last time I ever make a visit with this restaurant. The only non-subpar thing about the entire experience was the beer. read more

Visiting family and this has always been one of our go-to spots. I'm not sure if the ownership has changed, but there is NO way a Mexican sent the food we received out of the kitchen. There were very few pescatarian options available. I asked our waitress if I could substitute the beef/chicken burrito option for shrimp. I got a tortilla with 6 shrimp...that's it! Nothing else! No rice, beans, lettuce, cheese. She brought a separate plate out for me and I had to "build my own." No flavor and I could have made something better at home.
