I was in town for a family reunion so I had to stop in. It was just as good as I remember. Chicken George with Jan's sauce is one of a kind. They offer several other options if you do not want chicken. The restaurant was so clean and the decor was very nice. However, I do wish it was a little brighter light in the restaurant but I guess they get the name Candlelight for a reason. Our waitress was AMAZING! We had a large party and she was so great at attending to all of us. I was so glad I got to stop in during my time in town and Chicken George will be something I dream about until my next visit.

They made it clear that they were just gonna use me and we're hoping that I would quit. What a sick culture. I'm really glad they close down. I bet he watches a lot of Billy Crystal movies. Food came with homemade salsa and chips appetizer (in store dining) which paired well with the good food. He even brought us a free cup of soup because we were new. We were dining with someone who is celiac, and glad they were able to discuss menu and accommodate and make gluten-free meal without celiac diner getting sick later (which other restaurants refused outright). Ambience is a family restaurant. We will return for the cozy sit down family experience. Please note they are open Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sunday and Monday.

I recognize they are operating in a different environment, especially being over two hours away from the competition found in Chicago. In any case, I found myself hungry in Rock Falls, so I stopped in at La Familia. I had the opportunity to try a carnitas taco, an al pastor taco, and a tamale. I also ordered an horchata to drink. The food was a mixed bag, but with some notable high points. The highlight of the meal was the tamale. The exterior was soft and flavorful, and the interior was appropriately meaty with a good, mild flavor. I believe this was my first experience with a tamale, and it was an enjoyable one at that. For the tacos, I appreciated that the proteins, onion, and cilantro were all in balance and that they didn't skimp on the meat. I am a traditionalist and asked for my tacos with just onion and cilantro, rather than their standard of lettuce, tomato, and cheese. While the meat had a mild flavor and wasn't completely bland, it needed something more to stand on its own. To be fair, there is salsa, lime, and two varieties of El Yucateco hot sauce available. However, being the purist I am, it is my belief that food should be able to stand alone without condiments. That said, with these tacos, it felt like something was lacking--perhaps sauce, crema, or pineapple with the al pastor. I'd also like to call out the complimentary chips and salsa offered at the beginning of the meal. I loved that the salsa was served in a little spouted container and that the tortilla chips were clearly homemade. They were a bit unusual, with layers flaking off (not a bad thing, just not often seen in restaurants). I also liked that they had a little bit of salt... far too many places skip that, and how can you skip the salt? My horchata was an absolute delight with great flavor. It was a tad sweet for my taste, but that's more a matter of personal preference than a technical issue. The service was a major highlight. It was very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. The staff was also quick and efficient. Final Verdict: La Familia is very solid and respectable as a family-run, home-cooking-style restaurant. While to be 100% honest it doesn't hold a candle to some of the things you might find in downtown Chicago, Pilsen, or Cicero, that isn't the expectation. With this in mind, it does its job well. While I'm not going to come all the way back to Rock Falls just to eat here, when I find myself in town, I can't say I would be totally against it.

We went around 330pm on a Sunday (not exactly the busiest time), and the food was fresh and plentiful. Yes, the sushi may not be the quality of, say, Bangkok Gardens in Dixon, but do you really expect a $10 buffet to offer THE MOST AMAZING SUSHI EVER? I certainly had low expectations, but the sushi was adequate...and I liked how they have 6 or 8 different types of sushi to choose from. That's more than most other Chinese buffets. Other than the sushi, the entrée dishes were various and the selection was large enough for even the pickiest eater to find something to eat. All in all, I was pleased with the experience. For $10, it really can't be beat. I didn't try the grill, but hope to next time.

They tell you that it's broken but it's not it works. They just don't put it on so they can cheat you. Unfortunately that's what they're doing and I told them to their faces that they're cheating me so I'm going to stop coming here because I'm sick of being cheated and if you're sick of being cheated, eat somewhere else or make them fix the scale so that you can see the price and what you're buying some people buy a lot of food in with them playing games like putting their hand on a scale when it reads it, come on the act like we're really stupid a lot of Chinese people act like Americans are very stupid.
