An unfortunate incident at Eggs in Paradise in Sterling today highlighted the need for better understanding and adherence to the law. I have a mental health-trained service dog and was denied seating, spoken to rudely, and ridiculed by the waitress at EGGS IN PARADISE, Sterling. According to the waitress, the manager was too busy to talk to me and could deny service to whomever he chose. I took the last seat and called the police. The waitress informed people around me that I would not be served no matter how long I sat there. Seeking assistance from the police and sitting for a half-hour in a full restaurant with customers staring, I was granted service but banned from the establishment. The waitress said I was aggressive. I had a soda, never spoke to the manager, even though I requested repeatedly, and the waitress announced, "This is hilarious," as I quietly left. This behavior not only violated multiple laws, including the Illinois White Cane Law and the ADA, but also displayed a lack of empathy and understanding towards the disabled and service dog community. Please forward this to stress the need for Businesses to educate themselves about the rights of individuals with service dogs and train their staff to be respectful and accommodating. Let's work towards creating a more understanding society for everyone, including those with disabilities and service animals. It's time for change, and together, we can make it happen. We had stopped here numerous times in the past for breakfast and sometimes lunch. My husband told me today that he will no longer frequent this restaurant. So many people -- standing room only. We left and went back a few hours later. My omelet was cold. No hash browns on the plate and I thought it was always accompanying an egg dish and you either had a choice of toast or a pancake. The potatoes should have been there. My husband's BLT was not good -- toast was burnt; bacon was cold. I had to wait several minutes for a refill of coffee. The waitress stood behind our table talking to other diners while she was holding our food orders in her hands! A very unpleasant experience to say the least. The place Is a little grungy. The food was just..ok. I had the comet pork tenderloin thing. My food was cold and the peppers and onions were pratically raw. The dish was very greasy. They have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options and will add and substitute what they can upon request:) The food came out fairly quickly. The servers there were very polite and helpful. The waitress (possibly the owner?) who waited on us was very polite, friendly and overall welcoming. I was rather put off by the energy of the other waitress. The breakfast food is a little high priced, but the quaint and mid-century modern atmosphere seems to make up for it. I did feel as if the hash browns were undercooked due to the abundance of them. Everything on the menu is outstanding! The name may be misleading; there is a full menu with more than just eggs. I order the Mediterranean salad at least twice a week. You can't go wrong with the soup which comes with your entree. My favorite is the rueben soup. It doesn't matter what you order, you can't go wrong. The service staff is pleasant and friendly. If you didn't know, this place has won best breakfast as voted by locals for the last three years in a row! I hit up Paradise for breakfast every time I'm in town. Portions are awesome for my big appetite and the potatoes are what separate this restaurant from the others. This last trip I got the Comet Skillet with scrambled eggs. The food is always fresh and delicious! The orange juice is freshly squeezed. The yolk in our eggs is orange so you know it's fresh farm eggs. Everything always tastes great. Abysmal customer service. A friend and I came in to eat for brunch on a Sunday, so it was busy, but we got there, got drinks, but ended up waiting thirty minutes to have our orders taken. A couple that came fifteen minutes after us literally had their orders taken within five minutes and had their soup before anyone even asked us what we wanted. We had to try to flag down the waitress several times before she came over. No apology whatsoever for the delay, and it's not like we were easy to miss, since we were at a table right next to the door. We ended up leaving because we weren't thrilled on waiting even longer for just diner food and ended up getting better customer service at Culver's. Also, the table set up is super weird, with one long table (made up of individual two person table) in the middle of the diner (not a bar top!) where you're literally elbow to elbow with a bunch of other strangers. They had other booths and tables, but this dominated the diner.They could easily have broken up the tables with the space they had and made it less weird, but they didn't.
