We were here visiting extended family, and this was the first place we came based on it being close to the hotel. I was expecting the Americanized food. It wasn't. We spent a week in Mexico City last month. You could take this place, drop it into areas near Polanco CDMX and it would succeed. The rice was above normal. The refried beans excellent, and the food itself was excellent. The esquites were a standout.

Our chips and salsa arrived quickly, and drink order taken as well. My husband ordered the quesabirria, I ordered the carnitas and my uncle ordered the shrimp chimichanga. All our food arrived in a timely fashion! Although my husband's consume was on the colder side of warm, it still had great flavor. My carnitas were amazing. So tender and the plate had so many delicious options to make my tacos. The shrimp chimichanga looked delish, and if I get a chance to visit again I would definitely try it. The whole place was a bit loud, but I do believe that was due to the extra 30 teenagers helping staff for their fundraising event. It was not prohibitive of having a conversation. All in all, stop in! The staff is friendly and the food is good!

Excellent food. We were almost shocked at the authenticity and quality of this food! I had the chicken quesadilla and my husband had the carne asada. Both were excellent and came with the option of grilled cactus. I believe this is billed as Mexican but is actually Guatemalan. The staff is super friendly. It's a small place on Main Street. I highly recommend this little restaurant.

I love when immigrants break out of the fields and factories to follow the American dream, and we get their delicious cuisine. This was our second visit and the restaurant has come a look way. Laminated menus with pictures that were representative of the dishes we received. Empanadas with chicken, mayo and cabbage. Jalapeno enchiladas. Wonderful homemade salsa. My first try of a Michelada and I think it was a good representation. This stuff is authentic. Don't expect cheddar smothered entrees. Do expect nicely seasoned meats, authentic carriers (sopes, rellenos, empanadas) fresh lettuce and cabbage and a healthy dose of cojita queso Blanco. This is the real deal. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the service is slow (they are a lean operation and the servers help prep food), and they use tilapia as their fish, they have no house made horchata, and there was no ceviche or mole.

The Watering Hole's fare is far from the best I've eaten -- but sometimes a basic burrito and a glass beer are exactly what one needs to fill their belly. I ordered the "Big Burrito" and my wife ordered the "Bean Burrito." Because they have no beer on tap we ordered bottles of Negra Modelo to drink. Both of our burritos were amply stuffed with meat or beans, cheese, lettuce and tomato, and served with refried beans and Mexican rice. Two ounce cups of salsa and sour cream were served on the side, and additional sauces (hot and mild) were on the table. Our burritos reminded me of the ones I make at home when I'm scrounging around the fridge to use up left over meat, refried beans, cheese and veggies. Even though the ingredients were casually tossed together and rolled up in a tortilla, and though it was not particularly attractive on the plate, the taste was fine, the quantity was ample, and our hunger was sated. I doubt that I'll come back specifically for the food -- but the location is convenient (right on US 51), the bartender/server was friendly, the kitchen was efficient, the price point was acceptable, and the food was satisfactory, so when it fits my needs, I'll come back.
