I've been coming up to Minocqua for 35 years. Was excited to see this Mexican place. Stopped in at 5 pm on a Tuesday. We sat at the bar. Bartender was super nice. Got us a jalapeno margarita and a strawberry margarita. Horrible. Get a sangria NOT A MARGARITA! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is great so this place could have potential.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered cheese curds and the jalapeno cornbread for an appetizer. The cheese curds were decent and the corn bread IS AMAZING. Only amazing thing we ate. The complimentary chips and salsa... the salsa tasted like Tostitos salsa from a jar. Not authentic. My two chicken tacos with corn tortillas fell apart. Nothing worse than tacos that fall apart. The burrito my husband had was extremely salty and my husband loves salt, so if he's saying this- take it into consideration. Bill was $75. Will not be back. read more

Coming from Chicago, Mexican food is no joke, and this place was surprisingly good! My cousin and I ordered the barbacoa 2 taco plate with rice, beans (both delish!). The waitress was nice enough to warn us about how spicy it was, but we ordered it anyways. She was not wrong, it certainly had a kick, but the flavor was still really great. 2 tacos was the perfect portion as well. We ordered a couple of margaritas (just OK) and I washed everything down with a refreshing glass of their house sangria (YUM). In all, we were content with our visit. read more

Amazing inside! I do not know what this building looked like prior to Maverick but it is amazing now. The second you walk in you feel like you are somewhere else entirely. As for the food experience....if you like fusion Mexican dishes with bold flavors and some spice then Maverick is your place. There are no "safe" or boring options. My chicken chimichanga was exceptional. The guacamole is as good as any place I've been. My jalapeño margarita was a solid start to my experience. I cannot wait to get back. However, if you are looking for oversimplified Mexican food then go to one of their competitors because Maverick does not know how to pump the breaks! read more

I have been here three times in the past 6 months. Authentic mexican food and great friendly staff! The interior is small and cozy, a few tables in the front and additional tables in the rear of the building. Nice bar, variety of margs and some craft cocktails. The menu is limited but they always have a daily special. Highly recommend!!! read more

Tried this place on a Sunday and it was great! Had the blueberry pineapple margarita which was amazing. The salsa and chips are also very good. The light and flaky chips have a bit of seasoning on them which is nice. Ordered the chorizo white cheese dip. This dip has a great smokey flavor to it, definitely ordering that again. I've eaten here at least 4 times in less than a week and have enjoyed everything. I live in Texas and have eaten Mexican food in Texas and Mexico thousands of times. This place is exactly what the northwoods needs. Good food. Which can be hard to find. I've had their enchiladas and posole several times and enjoyed it every time. Good beer and large tequila selection. I'm going back tomorrow for fish tacos. If you're in the great north woods check this place out. read more

Normally love this place! The food is good. However I need to eat protein and veggies with limited cheese. I asked if I could have a burrito with just chicken and vegetables and told No. asked if I could just have taco meat double with veggies told no. Told the one dish didn't have cheese and it came all cheese. Really bummed that the waitress and restaurant wasn't accommodating. I was just requesting protein and veggies. read more

I give them credit for trying to make things from scratch, but we ordered an assortment of different things to try, and none of it was any good. The chicken was dried out, the beef barbacoa was spiced so heavily with cayenne that it was bitter and inedible, the salsa was thick and gloopy, jalapeño corn muffins were not baked all the way through, and the beans were so undercooked that they were almost crunchy. The chorizo queso dip was ok but the chips just tasted like old oil. It was a complete waste of money, and we will not be going back. read more

The owner and the food is a joke, seriously if you own a restaurant, wouldn't you want to make customers happy so they come back? I mean i get, everyone has a bad day, but this woman, the owner, made a fool out of herself, yelling at woman that was seated behind our table, cheap cabbage was all over her enchiladas, heard the woman ask if they have lettuce, owner yelled back and said this is an authentic mexican restaurant, we dont have lettuce...she told the customer if she wanted something else, the customer would be paying for both meals. BUT at our table the beans were one of a few problems, the beans are put in just about every item, they we're so hard, they were NOT edible! I asked for my chimi without sauce on top, well it came with sauce, I sent it back, it came out 2m later with the sauce scraped off....WHAT, who does that, it wasn't deep fried like it said, so basically a burrito, we told the server a few times, she would only say I'll let them know in the back...none of it because of the beans could we eat, it was a somber night, due to a funeral the next morning, we paid the bill and left, none of us ate! The next day we called, got the owner on the phone, told her about our horrible meal, and asked for a refund, with ALOT of yelling, she agreed to send a check, 12 days later, no check! So on to filing a complaint with the BBB. This place doesn't care about their food, or their customers, first time ever that I've seen an owner yell at a table so EVERYONE in the place can hear! This place is awesome. The food is crave-worthy, the atmosphere is welcoming, clean and well designed. I think the owner was bartending and he couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating - a really genuine guy who's clearly passionate and proud of what he's building (for good reason). The experience here was truly refreshing. I had the fish tacos and they were some of the best I've ever had. Can't wait to return. read more

My hubby and I have tried this place several times and almost always leave disappointed. Tonight, we came in and since the bar looked empty we asked to sit there. Waitress was very impersonal and went to ask a manager/owner I'm assuming, then came back with menus. After asking specials, since I guess it's not taught to tell your guest what the specials are, my hubby orders a pork burrito and myself the cheese enchiladas. I asked for queso on the enchiladas but came without. My husband got pork enchiladas not the burrito he ordered. We decided not to make a big deal out of it, but we never get asked if we want anything else until we're almost finished. They obviously treat ppl who are drinking a lot at bar with better care. Our bill came and of course they didn't "forget" to charge for the extra queso I never got, and an up-charged $5 for the enchiladas even tho he ordered the burrito. The owner meanwhile is always sitting right there at the bar drinking and doesn't seem to care that orders are not correct nor trains anyone of those bartenders the proper way to greet a customer. We are great tippers but a tip is for the SERVICE and they have lousy service!! read more
