We dropped by our first evening after getting off the ferry and were disappointed to find the truck closed. The hours of operation are written as "11:30 to 5 or 6" daily... Classic island hours. We had to pop by again the next day, at pretty much exactly 2pm.

I do know they are in business since one day I did drive by seeing the place open with someone eating outside. Hopefully one day I'll get to try PV's Patate if I can figure out when they are open.

Second, on Salt Spring everywhere is a zoo Saturdays. Wrong again! Mondays and Fridays are the busiest for this place because only the locals know of it and locals avoid down town Ganges on weekends. How it works. You choose from a list of ingredients, (see the choice on the side of the truck). They quickly pull it together (no cooking, go figure). Great fresh ingredients and generous portions all at $9 no matter what you order. They provide compostable container and cutlery. They are located adjacent to Mahon Hall. Turns out that GISS stands for Gulf Islands Senior Secondary. This is organic food grown and served by local High School Students! I had the most amazing combination of tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, feta, pesto pasta, and a few other things. Looks like this will be a regular on my visits to Salt Spring.

The horchata (rice drink) was also at least twice as watery as normal. Are they cutting costs by watering things down? The outside eating area could have been nice, but it is very neglected. The pots held mostly weeds and the seats and ground had lots of old dead leaves. It's summer now, not Fall, so those leaves have been there a while. The food was very slow in coming even though there was just one other table. (Folks at that table were also complaining of the long wait). The reggae music was nice (but a further indication this is not a real Mexican place). This place needs some serious attention from someone who cares.
