What a great Mexican meal. The boss had the fish tacos and I had the diabla tacos. My diabla were spicy chorizo, carnitas and steak in homemade corn tortillas. The flavor was banging flavorful and had a good spicy punch. The shrimp tacos were also full of flavor and packed with a lot of shrimp. Our dinner came with warm tortilla chips and salsa. Service was terrific and we sat in the old train car. If you want a fantastic Mexican meal, especially tacos, this is a must visit. read more

This was a hard one to rate. 2/3 of the food we got was quite good, 1/3 wasn't. Maybe it's better if you dine in. Hmm My carnitas street tacos were totally naked! I'm fine with that because they provided all the usual toppings in small containers so I could fix them as I wished. Lots of meat that was spiced and cooked to perfection. I would have chosen corn tortillas but it wasn't an option. Hmm DGD wanted a quesadilla with chicken but they weren't offered. She only ate half of it & DD said no wonder because it wasn't real Mexican cheese mixture and not melted enough. Plus it was a tortilla folded in half and not grilled enough. The rice and beans were standard, and this was off the kids' menu so the small sizes were appropriate. But that quesadilla... Hmm We got a "trio" of dips for $12.50 and those were small portions of one each: guac, pico de gallo & queso blanco. All tasty. The chips and salsa, fine. I didn't try the elote but DD pronounced it juicy and fresh. There's free parking and the food was hot and fresh, but I wonder if a GrubHub order doesn't get noticed right away. We ordered from the road, DD waited till the latest time listed - but as she waited 10 minutes for it, GrubHub updated with a 10 minute delay. Again, hmm read more

This place was awesome! A surprising find on our drive from DC to Myrtle beach, SC. The food was delicious and the service was awesome. It looks like a small, nondescript restaurant from the outside, but inside is spacious and one half of the restaurant is an actual repurposed train car! The staff were super nice and accommodating. Every item we ordered was delicious. My hubby ordered the chicken with the mole sauce, said it was the best he's ever had. I ordered the chicken tikirikki. A nice mix of protein with tons of vegetables and very well flavored. My friends ordered the lunch special with chicken& shrimp and the other had the potato burrito. My kids tried the chicken fajita quesadilla, which was fantastic coz most quesadillas are just protein and cheese, this one had plenty of veggies too. Every item was a hit! read more

Driving to Florida from New Jersey and staying in Rocky Mount. What a wonderful oasis this restaurant is. Really cute and warm decor, excellent service and some of the best Mexican food I can remember in a long time. Everything was very fresh, served hot and delicious! The food is really good, BUT they are very stingy on the chips. We go there, four of us, and order 4 margaritas and a trio of dips. They give us one basket of chips and basically make us beg for another basket. We end up leaving with a lot of dip still in the bowls because they won't give us any additional chips. By the way - we tip well. We just don't get it. read more

We tried El Mariachi for the first time tonight as a family. Walking in is such a beautiful experience in itself with their decor. We were greeted by the staff right away and seated immediately. Our waitress was great with our kids and explaining the dishes. The appetizers were amazing we loved the fresh guacamole, Queso, and salsa. Our main dishes came out quickly. The flavor is amazing you can taste each note of flavor. Highly recommend eating here, it's a wonderful experience! On a side note, my husband had the enchiladas pablano which is served with a mole sauce. This sauce takes 7+ hours to make and is made by the owners mother herself. We were staying in the area and needed a place for dinner with outdoor seating so we could bring our two dogs with us. We happened on El Mariachi. We were greeted with enthusiasm and lead to an outside table. My husband I ordered the chicken Mole. We were told the Mole was made by the owners mother. Let me tell you that was the best Mole I have had. The depth of flavor was unbelievable. The service was excellent as were the cocktails. If we lived in Rocky Mount this would be our go to for Mexican food. read more

We looked for a restaurant on Yelp when passing through the area. This one got high marks so we made a stop. Neither of us found the meals particularly flavorful although portions were ample and main ingredients (shrimp, steak, chicken for me) were generous. Service was pleasant but slow even though we were one of only two or three tables in an off-peak period. We'll look for another, probably BBQ place next time in the area. read more

This place is great. There is eclectic decor with a mix of hand painted banquets and traditional Mexican motifs, plus some classic diner elements. There is a lot of space, so it would be great for a group or a family, but we were just two. They played Spanish music and a few people were ordering in Spanish, so it had an authentic feel, and the the friendly staff was very welcoming to us. Most importantly of course, there was delicious food. We tried the horchata (a milky rice drink with cinnamon), and it was one of the best I've had. The sizes of drinks are generous, even the alcoholic drinks I saw people ordering. We tried two platters, and got to try a burrito, enchilada, tostada, rice and beans, and Chile releno between the two. It was all amazing! We even ordered dessert --sopapilla, also good. They had a huge number of options to choose from, including many vegetarian choices. Would definitely recommend!! read more
