This is considered on of the best restaurants in town. It's OK Very busy on a Friday night. The was damage in our booth, but we could sit. The margarita did not seem to have much tequila. The food, while good portions and presentation, really lacked any flavor. Being from New England, I know bland. and this was bland. But it was filling. There really isn't much to choose from in this town. Chipotle or Taco Bell offerings might have move TexMex flavoring. read more

Being from California AND Mexican, we were very cautious to try this restaurant. The salsa makes or breaks a Mexican restaurant for me! I am happy to say we went through 2 bowls of salsa and 2 baskets of chips!! The carne asada was just like at home! Came with all the fixings! The Fajitas de alambre was delicious as well! We will definitely be back for another 3 or 4 meals while we are in town! All the taste of California that we expect when at a Mexican restaurant you can find here at El Mariachi restaurant. If you're into bland tasteless food this is your place. This is the third time I have been here. On the first two occasions the food was just editable which they try to make up for with huge portions. Tonight tried order take out. Was given a menu and I left after 25 min without anyone taking my order, but they did seat tables and take drink orders. Just ignored me and pretended I didn't exist. If your food is just passable you can't afford to force people away. Save your money and make the trip to Harrisburg's west shore. read more

Food service professional review: If your looking for authentic non gringa/gringo food, this isn't the place. In town to visit family we decided to try this place. It was pretty crowded for a Friday night. Service was attentive, fast, but somewhat unorganized. We had multiple people stop by the table asking if we needed to place an order, or offering to get us a check while we were waiting on something. Food was what I would consider "American style Mexican". If you're used to a authentic, homemade Latina/Latino kitchen this is going to taste very bland to you. No flavor really at all, no spice, no heat, unfortunately bland. If you've traveled, lived, or are from a Central American country don't expect that type of flavor here. This is very obviously directed at what people think Americans think Mexican food is. Problem is...it is an outdated trend that really needs to go away. Give me some hole-in-wall shack that is Spanish speaking only, that's cool, I also speak Spanish. Give me fresh ingredients, authentic recipes, and flavor. Oh yes, and please do NOT call a fried tortilla with cinnamon sugar on it a sopapilla. OMG! Really Sorry, can't recommend this place. read more

I haven't dined in yet, I'm working to remedy that. But, based on the food I highly recommend this place. The man on the phone was very nice to me. I've tried the Burrito Poblano if you like Mole Negro. I've had the carnitas especial several times now, also fantastic, some of the very best I've had. The tomatilla salsa and Pico de Gallo are great. The queso blanco dip and salsa are slightly on the spicier side for those who are sensitive to the heat. But they are both great. The Arroz con Pollo is also wonderful, the bed of rice is soaked in queso Blanco and the chicken is cooked perfectly. I also highly recommend the Fiesta platter (I think that's the name) it comes with one chicken and one beef taquito, a chicken chimichanga, and a quesadilla, very good! The enchiladas are also really good, my favorite of theirs is the shredded beef enchiladas. Also, warning, the salsa verde is also on the spicier side. I really need to take a visit in person. This is the best Mexican (American-style Mexican) place in the area. Much much much better than Montezumas. read more

My wife and I were first timers. Ordered Chicken and Steak Fajitas. The rice and refried beans were cold. The steak was very tough and rubbery. Had to ask the waiter 3 times for napkins. We were driving thru Shippensburg and stopped for the night. Looking at reviews we chose El Mariachi for dinner. Tables are nicely spread apart for we social distancing people. Guacamole was great as were the chips!! Burrito Campesino was yummy, with spicy rice and a delicious cheese sauce. My husband enjoyed the mariachi fajita. Our server was delightful.
