Wow..this is the definition of a hidden gem. After driving through endless apple orchards, back roads and little league baseball field; I came to this non descript restaurant. I stepped in and its half a Mexican Supermarket and deli and half a restaurant. I ordered the Steak Sopes, burritos, enchilada, taco and I couldn't resist the Pumpkin Flower Quesidilla. The chips, salsa and homemade queso were top notch. After maybe 20 mins the food came and it was PHENOMENAL!! I felt as if i was at a Mexican family reunion and great grandma and her daughter's all cooked me homemade meals. Take the journey to this place!!

Hidden Gem! The food is just as good as the atmosphere! This was my first time here and it didn't disappoint, the food was delicious! A number 1 combo meal was ordered, plus a basket of 3 ground beef hard shell tacos. I swear these were the best ground beef tacos I've ever had.Super juicy and seasoning is spot on. You can definitely tell there using authentic spices. My buddy said the combo meal was amazing! Rice and beans with a ground beef taco, pork tamale plus a chicken tostada. Two house sauces are offered, a red and a green sauce. I prefered the red sauce because it was more spicy. Not only is this place a small restaurant, it's also a convenience store. They carry a fairly wide selection of items, from pinatas to footwear, to homemade chorizo! I almost bought a pair of those white shoes, but they didn't have them in my size. I highly recommend this place, you won't be disappointed.

We visited on the way home one evening. It is a small building on rt 34, near the town of Aspers, Pa. Gravel parking long could accommodate about 40 cars. Several bushes around the edge of the property. there were several signs in Spanish hanging from the windows: money transfer forms, phone cards, jewelry repair, a huge Spanish music concert in shartlesville, pa, etc. When we went in, we were greeted by a tall mexican waiter, he seated us and got us menus right away, after giving us a little time to look, he returned for our beverage selections, while bringing out chips & salsa. We looked at the menu, it appeared to be complete, with many selections, but was standard, nothing special. the prices were reasonable, comparable to other mexican restaurants I've been to. We ordered the shrimp soup (8.00) It had a ton of small shrimp in it, though none were peeled, nice base too, very tasty. Bistek a la mexicana (12.00) which is a large flat slice of beef, along with beans and rice, covered in avocado, onions & tomato's along with 5 corn tortillas. We ordered a taco salad (8.00), which was a large tortilla, fried, that had a bowl appearance, with ground beef, tomatoes, lettuce and cheese on top. What we tried that was decent was: a Beef soup, with cabbage, tomato, half a corn on the cob, onions, cilantro, all in large slices. It was amazing, when we first came in we asked what the best item was, he suggested that. the little store was okay it has pastries, treats, rice, medicine, first communion dresses, religious statues, dried peppers, canned goods, a complete line of soccer clothing. All in all it was pretty good, having read Amy's review and being in the area, I thought it would be pretty neat. I have to give Amy credit she reviewed a nice little spot. Prices- fair, Service-fair, taste- Good.

Finally, I've discovered an excellent restaurant here in PA! It's in the middle of nowhere but that's where you find the best hidden gems. Came over to the area to volunteer at the migrant camps. The nurse recommended us to come here, and so we did. I agree with the comment before: this is a place by Mexicans for the Mexicans; the food is authentic and rich with flavor! One of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Guacamole- this is PERFECTLY balanced and the lime juice makes the flavor so bright and fresh. I will be craving for this in the future! Tongue Taco - taste like beef. it's tender, flavorful, tortilla is warm, really good! Enchilada Verde- This dish explodes with flavor. Mildly spicy, slightly tart that's balanced with the sour cream. Even the beans were tasty. Highly recommend this restaurant. Can't wait to bring my family here when they come visit me! If you come out here, it's next to beautiful fields of green grass and apple/peach orchard plantations, so make sure you enjoy the nature outside too!

tacos de lengua (tongue tacos), guacamole, and enchiladas de mole at Tania's

Enchiladas de mole. Get the mole! It's so so soooooo good. Chicken or cheese enchiladas covered in the most delicious mole I've ever had, with a side of beans and rice. OR get the tacos de lengua (beef tongue) for about $5. Incredibly tender, and even better when you order a side of guacamole to go with your tacos. I've also had their quesadilla with chorizo, which was a bit oily from the chorizo, but hey... what can you expect? I've been pleased with everything I've gotten here. Try some agua fresca, and if you've still got room for dessert, have some sopapillas (fried thin pastry covered in honey and served with whipped cream). They also have a cooler with paletas (popsicles) - never had a cajeta one before, and it was reeeeeally good. When I come for dinner, I usually get out paying around $10. It's hard to branch out and order something different on the menu because I typically switch between the mole and the tacos de lengua. They're so good! Tania's is about 20 minutes north of Gettysburg and totally worth the drive if you want some GOOD food.

Upon arrival we were quickly seated because we picked our own table. Waitress came by and then had…read moreto head back for a notepad and pencil. We asked to start with two waters with chips and queso. After a few minutes glasses of ice arrived but no water, and the server left as soon as she put the glasses down. So we waited for the water, which never materialized and waited some more and finally asked the table next to use if we are to get our own water and they said yes we need to go to the cooler to get the water where we were met by our waitress asking what type of water, so we decided instead for a Diet Pepsi 2 liter bottle. After getting back to the table we waited a few more minutes for the chips and queso which were ok, but could have been better presented. The queso was cold and the chips were sparse and the chips so large they would not fit into the ramekin to dip into the sauce. We ended up having 1/2 a ramekin of sauce leftover and asked for a few more chips and the table next to us said we may have to pay extra and we later found out that it is extra. That also shed light on the communication barrier as I asked for a few extra chips and she brought an entire new order that was extra in cost. That ended up going back and forth as to keeping it or turning it away and at the last second she turned to go back to the kitchen and the older gentleman who was bussing tables reached in to grab a chip to snack on. I'm so glad those chips were not brought back to us. lol. The bus guy did go get us a pizza trivet for our Mexican Taco Pizza which was delivered shortly with its own communication issues. My wife asked for sour cream and was told she would bring it on the side with the pizza. We ordered a medium 14" and the server repeated - large 16" and we said no, 14" medium, and that went back and forth 2 more times. We were never told what the topping were with the beef and sausage we ordered as we fumbled around the menu asking what else was on the pizza and finally figured it out with the broken communication and menu dynamics. The server said we'd get sauce on the side in a bottle like the other table so we said that would be nice. The side of sauce never arrived, but for some reason a second sour cream was brought out. No idea why and we were questioned as to who asked for it and neither of us had done so but she left it without charging us. She did offer to get us plates and silverware which she brought right out. Overall, we felt as if we were interrupting her phone time, including the customers next to us who were waiting a good bit of time for a To Go churro only to find out is was at the front desk To Go area but they were never told it was there or how to get it. The server came back once to check on us and it was not until she saw I was looking her way as she was coming out of the kitchen that she headed to the table. I asked for a box, to which she asked how many pieces, which confused me until she came over to the table to count the number of slices we had left. This is the first time I've ever been asked how many slices were left to coincide with a box to take home leftovers. Overall, the pizza was the shinning star! Absolutely amazing, and yes we asked for the 14" but were brought the 16" for $3 more. The chips and queso - meh, needs a better presentation and more chips with a hot queso and the service, well, you may do better to serve yourself if at all possible. Why you may ask, well when we asked for the bill the server brought it to use but never showed us, again communication breakdown of paying at the table or register and we went up to the register because she took the bill with her. She never showed us the bill just punches up the numbers on the screen and my wife had to ask again to see the bill and the waitress took it from the stack she placed on the metal spike that held others. This was our first time eating here, and there was no real form of communication to assist us in getting around. How about starting off with, " Have you all dined with us before", then go into helping with the layout.
