When planning our girls weekend in Red River I have to say, I wasn't expecting much. That being…read moresaid, upon arrival I was blown away by this sleepy little ski town! ++ One word = Oktoberfest. The town was hopping during our early October visit. Plus the admission for the fest was cheap! ++ Fall color is stunning here! Everywhere you look there are TONS of golden leaves to greet you! ++ Skiing here looks completely affordable! Once the snow drops adult lift tickets are available on peak season days for a mere $50. I'll gladly make the drive for that! ++ Much of the town is dog-friendly! Since we brought two pups along with us that was much appreciated! ++ Lots of nearby trails to explore! I bet many of them would make great snowshoe adventures in the winter as well! +/- There's only one brewery in town, Red River Brewing Company. They have a decent selection of brews and a killer space. I know we will be making our way back to explore more that this northern New Mexico gem has to offer! Until next time Red River!

I grew up in this small town and have so many great memories here. At the tender age of 2 I was placed on my first pair of skis and inched my way down the bunny hill. Years later, I was speeding down The Face and participating in the torchlight. I've ridden up and down Main Street on the Fourth of July in multiple floats, spent Easter mass at the local church, watched Santa ride up on a firetruck on Thanksgiving night, and ridden around the Go-Kart track time and time again. It's the epitome of a mountain town with a priceless charm that I hope lasts for ages. Any time of year, there's something fun to do here. True, it's small. Yes, there aren't that many people who live here. But when you're surrounded with people you love, you'll find plenty of magic all around.

The house is gorgeous with two tiny salons, a dining area and kitchen. You can feel the history. There are coffee table books documenting Mabel and Tony's life and their influences on the area. We spent about 30 minutes reading. Visiting hours are between 10.00am and 2.00pm each day if you are not resident. When there are no workshops or events coming after 2.00pm is fine. Breakfast is available for the public to book, $15 each for a good buffet. Reception has a number of books and cards for sale. The Dia de los Muertos shrine for Dennis Hopper was still up and many photographs surrounded it. What history this house has seen. Georgia O'Keefe, Ansel Adams, DH Lawrence and Martha Graham graced these rooms in Mabel's day. Dennis and his friends brought a livlier set no doubt! Nothing is ever a waste of time, there is always something to be learned!
