She went out of her way to make sure my wife, our four kids, my parents, my uncle, and our kids' friends all had an amazing experience. She treated us like family and genuinely cared that we made the most of our time there. Mary's kindness and exceptional service made all the difference, and we're so grateful for everything she did. All is fine since you'll spend most of your time in the water anyway. The entrance fee I didn't mind paying, but I felt that it should have included towels. Towels were an extra purchase on top of your entry fee. Luckily, I got a refund for my towel purchase because it is included with the purchase of a cabana which wasn't clear on the website. The pools themselves were nice with varying levels of heat. The amenities were also good. Our server, McKayla was great.

At first we were pleased with the accommodative nature of Teagan one of the husband wife team that manages the hotel. Upon arrival we called to check in as the hotel no longer has a lobby as it was leased to a restaurant. Essentially your check in begins in the parking lot when Paul brought out our invoice and was going to show us around. When Paul saw our dog, Paul informed us to be careful in the back part of the hotel area as there were neighborhood dogs that roamed around and could be dangerous. We were escorted up some outdoor steps to the door on the second floor to the hallway where most of the rooms are. Later that afternoon, my sister and her husband arrived to also check in. Upon opening the door to our room, I noticed a larger dog inside the hall that I was not familiar with ( Paul's dog) and our dog came out of our room and was approached by the larger dog "Luna". Our dog went to the door and was followed by Paul's dog after Paul attempted to block his dog and almost immediately attacked our dog and would not let go of her as she tried to escape his grip and constant biting. My wife had already started to try to get our dog loose and had fallen under a nearby table. I was able to pull her out of the way and eventually pull our dog loose from Paul's dog. The result was my wife received several dog bites that I believe came mostly from Paul's dog and our dog was bitten numerous times on the back of her neck area. While Paul checked while we were cleaning the blood from my wife's and our dog's wounds, not once during the remaining time we were there did Paul reach out to see how we were doing. I did see Teagan the following day and while she did not bring up the incident, I did bring it up and she said she was sorry. Little did I know that Paul's warning about neighborhood dogs should have included his own dog. We attended our funeral services and returned home to obtain medical treatment for both my wife and our dog. This was one disgusting experience and obviously will never ever use this hotel, which may not matter as the hotel was recently put up for sale.

You can leave your windows open at night to get the cool summer breeze of the mountains and hear the stream in the background. The owners are also very friendly and accommodating. There is also a small grassy area for the kids/pets to play and a swing. I'd recommend this hidden gem!

Most of the motels are along the Chama River, so you have the option of strolling along the water or exploring easy trails, and this one has a large "backyard" space with covered picnic locations, a gas grill for guest use, and some fun statues of deer. (Live deer wander through all the time, joining the magpies, ravens, squirrels, and other critters well used to human traffic.) The breakfast that is included with the room is several cuts above the usual bland and packaged fare at chain motels, and it's served in a charming country-style kitchen/breakfast nook. Keurig coffeemakers give you multiple options for flavor, there's actual fruit juice, yogurt, bagels, pastries, muffins, and hot water for tea. The front side of the building, facing the road, features a dozen or so hummingbird feeders that keep the little fliers happy and swooping around. The housekeeping staff seems to be mostly male, which is uncommon, but they do a great job on both the rooms and the grounds. Oh, and the WiFi is super-fast and free. Highly recommended.

The lodge is located two miles south of the train station. I am retired but for 27 years I was Director of Housekeeping for luxury properties throughout the US. Consequently, I have high cleaning and service expectations for hotels where I stay. The price has to reflect the quality of the property. Vista del Rio is a simple very clean charming hotel with rustic New Mexico accents. I booked a two-queen bed room to share it with my wife and son. The beds are firm, the two pillows on each bed were too flat for my taste. The beds also have two sham pillows with the same design of the Southwestern pattern bedspread. The layout of the room is motel style. One thing that differs from other motels, is that the rooms have a ceiling fan, love it! The bathtub/ shower and toilet are enclosed but the bathroom vanity and closet are not. The room has a microwave, mini refrigerator and a single coffee maker. The TV remote control is difficult to use, even with the instructions in the room. It got to a point that we couldn't figure it out and we didn't call the front desk for help so we turned it off. The ice machine is located next to the hotel office. Included in the room rate continental breakfast is offered. For breakfast they offer different types of store bought danish, cereal, fresh fruit, bagels and sliced bread to toast, yogurt, selection of juices, coffee and tea. The staff is very pleasant and cordial. The one story building has rooms on both sides. Our room faced the highway and I thought it was going to be noisy but it was not. The back rooms face a very large grass field with a bbq grill and a covered picnic area. The river is behind the hotel property is blocked by large trees but since it had rained heavily before arriving it was too muddy to explore. We live in Las Cruces, NM and we have lots of friends wanting to visit Chama and take the train so I will be recommending it.
