Walked in and loved the decor! Ordered margaritas,one house and one jalapeño, both were delicious, tasted handmade. Ordered chorizo tacos and relleno burrito, both were good. Unique side came with the burrito, a refreshing change from most Mexican restaurants. Staff was friendly and attentive, food was delivered quickly. Some business in town so stopped in for lunch. Very good service. Staff was friendly and food was quick, hot and tasty. The house salsa that comes free with the chips is a little generic. Ask to try the house hot sauce and put a spoonful in the salsa to kick it up a notch. My entree chori-pollo was very tasty. Cooked well. I ordered a side of guacamole and it was very good with actual avocado. I will for sure stop back to try some more dishes. Recommend. read more

Such sweet service and wait staff. Food was ordered and out quickly- which was good for a lunch rush. Flauntas were DELICIOUS! Crunchy and the perfect amount of toppings and rice to go with it. Music wasn't too loud so good talking volume too. 10/10 would go again read more

Fastest service ever! Two adults, two kids...we walked in and got a table right away. The back room was half full. Drinks and cheese dip came as soon as we asked! Ordered our food. We got the molcajete for two, one kid got the cheese quesadilla and rice, other got the Burrito Santana. The molcajete could serve four people. So much food and we both got three tortillas and a side plate with guacamole, pico, lettuce, sour cream, beans and rice. The chihuahua cheese chunks in it were so good. Took more than half of the dish home because it was huge! It's served at your table in a cute pot. Daughter loved the quesadilla, son got the burrito and it was two burritos smothered in cheese dip. He loved it. Everything was excellent and the service was amazing. The beans tasted kind of like chicken broth, figured everyone has their own recipe, but overall everything was perfect! read more

Getting tired of the same Mexican places in Ames so drove over for something new. Great salsa, chips and guacamole started the meal. Pork carnitas were well seasoned and weren't too fatty like you can get in some places. Chili rellenos and beef taco were delicious. Waitresses were very nice and friendly. We were in town for a business trip for a week and ate at El Mezcalito multiple times. Not only is the service top notch but the food is just as great! We recommend the horchata or the cornita for a beverage. The #12 was a crowd favorite as well as the seafood menu! The service is insanely fast, seated within seconds and served within 10 minutes. My first visit to El Mezcalito in Nevada Iowa was for lunch today. First impressions were great! The restaurant is bright and colorful and we were waited on immediately, at the beginning of a lunch rush. Our server was friendly and answered questions I had about their extensive menu. The table had freshly made tortilla chips with a tasty pico de gallo and very delicious refried bean dip. My order was the Pollo El Mezcalito. This unique dish consists of shredded chicken, fresh mushrooms and flavorful cheese sauce, with rice and refried beans. My friend had the special of the day -Burrito Verde. Lunch portions were very generous and I ate everything because it was so delicious! El Mezcalito was packed for the lunch rush which reassured me that this a great restaurant! read more
