Southern California Logistics Airport - The final fate of a Delta L-1011

The Southern California Logistics Airport is based on the former George Air Force Base which was active from 1941 to 1992. The airport has no commercial passenger service and is designed for business, military, and freight use. International cargo flights can land here as well due to its "foreign trade zone status". It is also home to several aerial firefighting units etc. and runway 17/35 at 15000 feet is the second largest public runway in the US. Following the grounding of 737 MAX's, Southwest elected to park their entire fleet here pending resolution of the software and flight safety issues that resulted in two crashes. What draws plane nuts to Victorville is the boneyard by and large. There is a large variety of mostly large aircraft that are either being stored (the hot dry climate is ideal) or being dismantled. Row after row of once proud airlines are lined up awaiting their fate's. Depending on how hard core you are you can make out the livery of current and often defunct airlines that have moved on. There are a few mysteries like the near new 787 parked and stored for more than a year. I could not get the tail numbers, but it may be an early production model that is too heavy for commercial use. Beyond the allure of seeing the planes there is not much else to do here. That being said, the city of Victorville has plenty of options for gas and eating, but unless there is a specific aviation event or your waiting for a particular plane to arrive, there is not much else going on at SCLA.

Got a crew car and allowed to bring back 2 days layer with no fees at all after topping off the tanks (14 gallons). Overall, would have gladly paid fees considering the priority of making it home for Thanksgiving but very grateful for the sense priority the personnel placed in simply ensuring they could all help get my father and I home. Upon my return on Friday, the next crew was just as incredibly helpful. Kudos to management for setting up the right culture as the crew certainly emphasized the trickled down mindset of providing the best customer service. Without a doubt will recommend Million Air to friends and colleagues. Lastly, tower was extremely helpful while in the soup in moderate/severe turbulence. The last minute diversion couldn't of gone better after totally knowing tower shifted their entire focus to providing the upmost assistance possible. Thank you all! -Serg

Services are good with lots of food and bars as well as a private lounge. Mostly, domestic flights, though they do have an international terminal for some flights to Asia and Mexico. For arrivals, less crowded, and orderly baggage claim areas. Curbside pickup, Uber pickup, and hotel shuttle pickup is pretty quick. Parking lots are mostly within walking distance and are well lit. The only downside is that some destinations are more costly than flying out of LAX but you save on the driving/Uber time in traffic.

I remember the days when it used to be super expensive to fly out of ONT in comparison to LAX. Thankful it's no longer as outrageous. First, this airport is 10 minutes from my house. There is NOTHING 10 minutes from LAX but traffic. For an early morning flights, I can leave my house 30 minutes before boarding time and get there and through TSA with time to give. Flying is already one of the worst ways to me to spend a day so being able to fly out of Ontario makes it a little bit more manageable. I usually fly Southwest or United so I only go to those terminals. Every once in a while, I'll fly out American. So far all the terminals that I use are pretty easy to get in and get out. Sometimes, in the evening, if someone is picking you up, it can take a while to get through but again in comparison to LA, it is a breeze. I love LA and I do a lot in LA but I would rather fly out of Ontario.

There are plenty of great food and drink options, from quick grab-and-go spots to more upscale sit down restaurants. Lots of new restaurants coming soon as well. One of my favorite touches is the live music. There's usually a guitarist/singer performing in a designated area, which adds to the laid-back atmosphere. It's not random, it feels intentional and professional. The bathrooms are also super clean and thoughtfully designed, with red/green lights above each stall so you can easily see what's available without checking doors. They even have a public piano, and I've heard some incredibly talented travelers play while waiting for their flights.

I was staying in…read moreNewport Beach for a few days and it was only natural to try and find a flight that landed here. The location of SNA is ideal if you're staying in the OC - the only other options in the area are SAN and LAX which are both over an hour drive away in either direction. The airport isn't large, but large enough to have several routes passing through it. The aesthetics are fine - not the most modern airport I've been to, and they seem to have a good amount of shops and eateries relative to their size. The rental car counters are super close to the terminal - I can't remember the last time I walked to one from baggage claim. My only real issue with SNA is that because of its size, you will likely be limited in routes. Flying from JFK to SNA was fine, but coming home my only options were connecting flights or a red eye. Neither were ideal, so I planned my itinerary accordingly to fly out of another airport. Overall, SNA is good for what it is, and a great option if you're visiting the Orange County area.

Picking up a rental car at one of the station has been a breeze. Driving in has always been a breeze without all the crazy traffic. The airport isn't that busy but a nice small international one. Picking up rentals cars was simple. The different rentals places are located at the end of the airport. They're pretty much close to each other as the counters are one after the other. Check in for cars was a breeze and pick up your car outside. Everything is self serve. But also, I love that you can take the Amtrak Chartered Motor coach, a shuttle bus. There's a stop at the end of the airport right next to the rental car. Get on the bus which takes you all the way to downtown Fullerton where you connect to the Amtrak and go down to Los Angeles. That was a game changer finding out that I can do public transportation instead in of driving and sitting in traffic. There's always loads of parking whenever I'm coming through. So based on the charter bus and rental car at the airport, it's alway been a nice experience. Haven't tried a flight here but with a small airport, they tend to be way easier than the hustle and bustle of your larger international airport.

We flew into BUR during memorial day weekend to visit my sister and her hubs. Some of the nice features: 1. You actually get to deplane in the open air, and not in the typical enclosed and claustrophobic skybridge tunnel. Similarly, baggage claim is open air. 2. The Southwest terminal is pretty small, but they have restrooms spread out everywhere which is super convenient. 3. Dining options are limited. For take-out upon departing BUR, Lunch Box has a large menu of options. They at least have a Starbucks, BBQ, and sandwich places. 4. I like how the rental car center is walkable from the airport, and they have several moving walkways and escalator to speed up the journey. LAX will always be bigger and more glamorous, but when traveling to the LA area, BUR is far less stressful and easier to get in and out. Its also closer to Studio City/Universal Studios where we were staying.
