    Taco Tuesday
    Sandy K.

Kinda crazy, I've lived in Whittier for 27 years and recently discovered this pop up taco stand. Depending on the day of the week the stand will be at various parts of Whittier Blvd east of the 605 freeway. The stand opens at 6:00 pm and closes later 11:00 pm. Expect long lines especially later on in the evening and on weekends. The stand is closed on Wednesday's. The flavor of the grilled meat is yummy since it's cooked over charcoal. They offer pork ribs, torta's, burritos and the soft tacos are made with fresh handmade corn tortillas. Condiments include grilled peppers, cilantro, onions, guacamole and tasty salsas. Only con is that there are no tables or seats - so you ll need to tailgate or go to a nearby park. Prices are reasonable and the quality and portions are generous. This is surely the best street taco stand locally and the entire staff are eagar to assist you with friendly service. Be sure to leave a gratuity in the tip jar.

Excellent dining experience! If you want great tasting tacos and semitas (tortas) then come on by! Although the line tends to be long (with a reasonably short wait), You can expect hand made corn tortillas, freshly grilled meats, and salsas along with VERY generous portions and reasonable prices! This is a take-out only location (no tables or chairs). By far these are the best tacos in Whittier!!! This was our first time here but not our last! Happy eating, comelones!

It was so worth it and delicious

Burrito de asada! It was so good, I will tell everyone I know! Can't wait to go back and get more choices!

This taco spot is fire! Tried the pollo, asada, and pastor tacos and they were all so flavorful and delicious. And to make it even better the tortillas are handmade. Both the green and red salsa are perfect, couldn't decide on one so I put both on my tacos.

We tried these tacos and a semita tonight and absolutely loved them! We'd driven past the taco stand several times before but our dinner timing was off so we had not stopped. Tonight, we made the drive to the west end of town JUST for these tacos. We had to try an assortment because we wanted to taste most of their tacos. The tortillas were freshly made and topped fully with meat. I like my tacos with onion and cilantro, no guacamole sauce. I added red salsa to my al pastor and asada tacos. Tasty salsa with enough of a kick. Loved the mesquite taste in the asada. The chorizo paired perfectly with the green tomatillo sauce. We also had sliced cucumbers, radishes and the pickled purple onion with habanero. The latter burned my mouth a bit but I'll eat it again! Ha ha! We had a fourth taco with costilla - norteño style grilled pork rib - but only tasted the meat and it was delicious. We were too full. This will be a shared snack tomorrow. My fiancé had a chorizo and asada semita which he LOVED. He had the taquero add red salsa and he also ate some of the pickled onion-habanero mix. They don't sell drinks, which we found out once we were there. I wonder if it's to discourage people from lingering in the area because their lines are already long enough and go around the corner. We ate our food in the car and returned home to have a cold beer. We will definitely be back!!! Give them a try!

Al Mequite Tijuana Style Tacos. They grill most of the meat (Asada, Chorizo, Chicken, Costillas) with the exception of Apastor which is cooked on a Trompo. Unlike most of the Tijuana Style Stands near by, you can add the toppings yourself (cebolla, cilantro, salsas and GUACAMOLE) On Taco Tuesday all Tacos are $1.00

Best Tijuana's tacos ever. Fresh meat and homemade tortillas. Quesadillas are big and love their pastor and costilla tacos.

The salsas also tasted fresh, but they were pretty bland and had almost no spice or kick to them. The biggest disappointment was the premium arrachera burrito. For $17.50, I expected the meat to be the highlight, but instead the burrito was mostly rice and beans. The filling was also very soft and mushy overall. The arrachera itself was chopped into tiny, fatty pieces with very little flavor, and it got completely lost among the rice and beans. It didn't have the grilled, seasoned beef flavor I was expecting from a premium burrito. Maybe this is the new standard, or maybe California food costs are forcing restaurants to cut corners to keep prices where they are--I honestly don't know. But at $17.50, I expected a lot more meat and a lot more flavor. I don't mind paying premium prices for premium food, but this just didn't feel like a premium burrito. The fresh ingredients, fast service, and friendly staff were all appreciated, but the burrito itself didn't live up to the price or the reputation.

Located off of the frontage street, by a grassy street divider, this is a spot to enjoy the eats on the grass like a picnic. I opted this spot, which has a IG of cali tacos please, but no longer exists. This spot on yelp was referred to as sumo tacos. The workers were friendly and very helpful. The sumo fries was delicious. The asada itself was unique. It had a smokey flavor which separates itself from other spots. It appeared to be cooked on charcoal, but given it is a food truck, that would be hard to pull off. The sumo taco was something different. It's cheese melted like a tortilla which holds the asada. It was very heavy, greasy and difficult to enjoy. The chips was a plus where you can rip the taco and place it on the chip. If you want something heavy, this sumo is for you. A bit heavy to my liking, so you might want to try a regular taco or burrito. But then again, it's called sumo for a reason. Curious if this spot would experiment with gorditas, a crisp tortilla. I think their filing would knock this out of the park. I also wish they would advertise what drinks they have. Nonetheless, worth a try.
