If I could do a negative review I surely would. This restaurant is where we had our wedding rehearsal dinner and spent over 2k mind you. I never thought I would write this review. But here goes,....My husband ordered a clay mug of beer. He received his beer and had taken 1 sip. As he was holding the mug, the handle broke. Spilling beer in the fajitas, my husbands lap, on my husbands shirt, brand new shoes and phone. The waiter ordered a new order of fajitas. At the end of the meal, we received the check with the beer and fajitas on it. Upon checkout, I requested to speak with the manager. When the manager arrived to the checkout, I advised him of what happened. The manager never apologized for what happened. Only lectured me and talked down to me. After I walked out, my husband spoke to the same manager and he told my husband he never spoke to me. I will never enter this establishment again. Lies, rudeness and being treated as a second class citizen because I was a woman. Food wasnt even good today either! Save your money and go to another restaurant please because obviously the manager only sees each customer as a $$$ sign! read more

My husband first took me here I would like to say about a year ago, The food is super delish. I could tell their tortillas were made fresh. I've tried a few menu items but, recently, when my dish came with two flautas- the flavor from the crunchy tortilla just satisfied me. I think for the price the portion is perfect, even if you don't finish -the foods so good you're gonna want it again. I have to review a few more items to see how good they are. I believe that some dishes really define if a restaurant is good especially in a Mexican restaurant. If I had to say a con: I sat on this one for a few, the one thing I was not the biggest fan on was their rice. While it's good it, I also wouldn't pick it out for myself. Like I said good, just not my favorite. However, Honestly, so far I do think they are def one of the better Mexican restaurants local to Kinston. I see a lot of people complaining about costumer service, I've been fortunate to have had good experiences. I have watched from my seat how there has been a few servers who did not attend their customers well. (If I'm honest it's usually the young ones.) So I do think that perhaps focusing on teaching the younger/new waiters on behavior and management with time could improve. Speaking the obvious you just have to be respectful as well to receive good service. I hate a rude customer just as much as bad service. Anyhow, if you're a foodie and have an open pallet. You can instantly tell how popular is it by the traffic it creates at their drive-thru window, and the parking lot is always full. Every time we dine in we are never disappointed. Every dish I've ever ordered is amazing. It's always hot and fresh. We've even been to the bar just for drinks too and they are always very tasty. I love a good spicy margarita and they don't hold back on the spice! If you haven't tried this place you are missing out because it's a must try! Our first time here and it was the worst mexican food we ever had. The guacamole had no seasoning. It was just a crushed up at avocado. The fajitas had no seasoning. The meat was very low quality no flavor along with the fishy shrimp that where bad. The burrito had no flavor. Service was very very slow. On top of the bad food and slow service they charge you a convenience fee on your bill and then if you use a credit card they charge you another 4% fee. I understand the credit card fee, but I have never seen it above 3%. read more

Worth the stop!! The reason why a 4 as to a 5 is because the Shrimp in the CA Burrito & the refried beans needed some salt or seasoning. However, the steak fajita taco salad was moist with a nice crunchy shell. The Flautas were THE best I have had in a long time! So crunchy and cooked perfectly! Moist inside and crunchy outside - that's the perfect Flautas! The make your own tacos - superb per my son who is a taco snob! We did the drive through so we could go picnic in the park w/ our pup. I've been to many Mexican restaurants across the US and this was some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. The reason they didn't get five stars was their service was not the best. They didn't bring the flour tortillas we asked for with our fajitas, so we told them we were missing them and they brought us corn. They seemed like they were not used to big parties because they kept referring to our table as the "party table".There were a few other mishaps but I would highly recommend this place. God bless. Every time we visit they are always fast to great us and get our orders back. Food is always good and if it's not they will usually offer to replace your meal. Definitely a must stop hole-in-the-wall if you are visiting Kinston, NC. Their Guacamole is made fresh with a nice flavor profile, but if you're not a big fan of spice ask for no jalapeños. I ordered Tacos Al Carbón and my girlfriend order the Fajita Taco Salad and I have to say we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My meal came with fresh pico de gallo and caramelized onions on the side. I'm not a big fan of black beans and rice at Mexican restaurants but El Nuevo certainly knows how to make it. Tucked away hidden from all but the discerning food crowd is this diamond in the rough of a restaurant! Back behind Bojangle's in a strip mall setting when you walk in the decor and music remind of Mexico? The people greet you with a friendly smile and warm chips and salsa. Ordered fresh guacamole salad and a spinach burrito for my dinner. The guacamole salad came out blazingly quick and it was fresh and tasty with chunks of tomato, onion, and fresh cilantro leaves. Very tasty with the complementary chips! Next came my piping hot spinach burrito which was covered with melted cheese sauce adorned with stripes of spinach sauce. This burrito was filled with chunks of grilled chicken and Mexican rice and freshly grilled spinach leaves. My server (Salara?) was friendly and attentive but not worrisome like some can be. I'm updating my review after my last two visits being atrocious. I arrived a few minutes early to pick up my order in the drive-thru. The young man at the window informed me that it would be about 3-4 minutes. No problem. However, I got my food home (I live about 5 minutes away), and it was all cold. Not barely cold, like it has been sitting out 20 minutes cold. My cheese quesadilla had barely any cheese, and the little cheese that was inside was so cold that it was inedible. I ended up throwing it in my frying pan. I really don't like bashing restaurants, but when you pay $26 for dinner, it'd be nice to get it warm. read more
