BEWARE -- Disappointed with unexpected $10 in extra charges on the final bill. Pay close attention to your receipt! We were surprised by several unexpected upcharges. You're even charged for a glass of tap water -- lemon or no lemon. We ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup, pointing to both the picture and the menu description, which clearly listed chopped avocado. The soup arrived without avocado, yet our bill included a $6 charge for it. The Chicken Quesadillas were listed at $9.50 on the menu but rang up as $12.99. When we mentioned the discrepancies, our waitress asked us to take the bill to the front desk. The cashier confirmed that there's a charge for water, lemon or not. I showed her the menu showing avocado included in the soup, but we were still charged extra, along with the higher quesadilla price. When I asked to speak with the manager, he said those were the new prices and pointed to a small sign near the entrance instead of updating the menu. To top it off, there was also an additional 5% charge for using a credit card. Overall, this was a disappointing experience, made worse by how management handled it. Usually service is great. Sadly, not tonight. I was seated at a table that was never cleaned from the last party that sat there. After that, the service was mediocre at best. I felt like it was an inconvenience for us asking to be moved to another table. Why would we have been seated there in the first place? Granted, I should have been more aware of the chip crumbs on the bench seats and on the table. But if you know the size of the menus, they take up over fifty percent of the table when placed down. The good thing is the food always comes out quick. The bad news is the server never came to check on how our food tasted and not once offered to fill our beverages. We've been going to Arturo's many times and given good reviews. But today was awful. We were seated quickly but waited 10 minutes with no wait staff visiting the table. I went to the bar where there were 4 employees talking. I asked if the table could order drinks. They began to argue amongst each other, but none acknowledged me. I went to use the restroom before going back to the table. The ladies room toilet was full of water and dirty paper, there was no soap in the dispenser. Having dined there about 8 times, I can reliably say that the food is consistently good, and a lot better than other Mexican restaurants in the immediate area. The restaurant itself is decorated in full Mexican style, casual and comfortable. Clean. Very clean. I always order a Chile relleno because it's a tasty treat, then Fajitas Texans, a fresh tasting platter of chicken, Shrimp, and beef with peppers and onions. Enchiladas combo is also a favorite. I think Arturo's is as good, maybe a bit better, than Patron in Havelock. With it's reasonable prices as a bonus, the place is always filled with families. I love it read more

This was my first time here in recent history. I ordered the steak chimichanga and a cheese quesadilla. My wife had the ACP. Like with most Mexican restaurants there are complimentary chips and salsa. The chips seemed a bit stale and the queso dip seemed a bit "runny" compared to other comparable restaurants. The decor was typical with but seemed a bit dated and could use a tidying up. The chimichanga and ACP were decent and I would order them again. The staff were nice and answered most of our questions. I am not sure if I'd return anytime soon as there are other restaurants in town that seem to be more up to date and authentic. read more

Three stars is all I can muster. As before, nothing much has changed. Your everyday nothing special Americanized Mexican dishes that all taste the same. There's practically no difference between a burrito and an enchilada. Often the chicken is dried out and tasteless. I go there often when I'm in a hurry and buy the cheap lunch menu offerings. I've been going there since 2006 and the menu is the same. The wait staff is ok but won't win any congeniality contest. Terrible Service! We have ate at Arturo's Mexican Restaurant several times but the last 2 times we have ate there, it has really gone down hill. The time before this time, we went in, got seated and waited 20 minutes and no one ever showed up to take order, ask us what we would like to drink nada nothing. So we got us and left and went to a different restaurant. Today 09/15/2023, we decided to try it again. We got seated and the waitress came and acted like she was perturb. She was snappy, acted like a total idiot and was not a professional waitress. If she doesn't like to have customers order food from the restaurant then maybe she needs to go with McDonalds. We told her what we wanted to drink and she bought still with attitude, we then gave her our order. She left, then came back with our drinks. Still with attitude. Food came and my husband said do you think she will come and check to see if we want more tea. She didn't, so he got up and went to the bar where she and another woman were sitting. He asked her for another glass of sweet tea, he came back and sat down with me, she came with the tea still with attitude and sat it down. He took a sip and it was unsweet tea not sweet. So I got up and went to the bar where she was standing, I said I would like 2 sweet teas refilled, and also 2 takeout boxes as my husband and I had already had our fill of her BS. She came with 2 glasses of sweet tea and the 2 take out boxes and walked off. The Restaurant was not busy at all. Pretty empty. An older couple who was across from us had their dog inside the restaurant and the lady was holding it while they ate. This dog was not a service dog. So we put our food in the take out boxes, and went up to the front to pay the bill. After all this BS, I did not leave but 2 quarters for her tip, I should have left her 2 pennies for such rudeness, If you want to have a bad experience then go here. It used to be totally different to eat here, but it has gone down hill. If you want great Mexican food with a great staff go to Wilmington NC and eat at La Costa on Oleander. They are great and wonderful people and staff that work there at La Costa. They take pride in their food, service and customers. I have known the owners of La Costa for over 20 years and have never been treated like we were treated at Arturo's Mexican Restaurant. read more

Food is amazing I had the kitchen special Chickens, steak, and shrimp on a bed of rice covered in white cheese with onions mushrooms and greens peepers this is a dish that I normally get from another place call me Pueblo in Winston-Salem North Carolina , it was just as good here the chips was good the sauce it was very authentic the staff is very authentic Allso and there are some very attractive women here ,, (some) ! I would definitely come back here again or recommend someone to come here for dinner , The building Decour is very authentic as well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT SURE ABOUT FOOD BUT Margaritas SUCKS. Went with wife for date night. It was our first and last time there. We only went for the margarita and appetizer. After receiving the Margarita we notified the waitress that there was no taste of tequila at all. It taste like a kids drink. We didn't want to feel the tequila we simply just wanted to taste the tequila. The manager came and his only response was we can pay extra for a top shelf. Ok so my wife notice the really good reviews it had on Google so we stopped in to grab some tacos. I will say it is not as good as those reviews say but it is not terrible either, just nothing to really rave about. We ordered the carnitas with green sauce and 3 carne asada tacos. Our server was nice and attentive that's kind of where the compliments stop. While my wife and I were very pleased with overall feel of the restaurant the food itself was not as flavorful as we had expected. The carnitas with green sauce was unfortunately lacking in flavor (it seems as if it was missing something) after we were amazed by how good it looked. The carne asada tacos were better but not as good as expected. Might try again but would definitely order something else. read more

I ate here on a recent trip to the area. I had the Alambre with chicken. It was just OK, nothing special, but reasonably tasty. It may be just the way they always make it, but it was a little bit watery, and not the way I normally see it in other restaurants. Service was fine, decor was good while not ornate, and prices were reasonable. It's a hit or miss... there's a 50/50 chance you'll get what you asked for. Sometimes they are great, other times they'll forget the tortilla on your burrito, your burrito will be soaked in liquid, or you'll get meat in your food that you didn't ask for. I've eaten at Mexican restaurants all over the east coast and this one is one of the better ones I've come across. We had the 3 beef tacos off the ala cart menu for lunch and they were absolutely loaded with cheese, and meat was seasoned just right. The salsa they provided with the chips was by far one of the better I've had. We will be coming back as I would like to try some of their other dishes for dinner. We got some food to go while on vacation in New Bern and it was pretty darn good. I ordered the chicken chimichangas as while it's definitely different to have red sauce inside it was good. The beans and rice were also a little different than normal, but still delicious. It was like having Mexican food in a bizarro world where things look a little different, but still really tasty. So I am truly not sure what to say about this meal ... I ordered a combo plate. The red sauce tasted like cheap spaghetti sauce ...weirdest flavor. I had what I can only describe as a gag reflex moment from the combination of the sauce and cold cheese enchilada. The chili relleno was simply a pepper with half melted cheese on it. I also ordered a flan and you could tell it was old. It had a thick skin at the bottom that was covered by the Hersey drizzle they used to mask the texture. To top it off they charged for tap water.. $.50? Who does that . Skip the cheese sauce because it was a thin, runny and tasteless and they charged $4 for a small serving.
