It was good, not the best but over all I'd come back. Chips and Salsa are very good! Might be the best part. Lol The Margaritas, were just OK. I wanted a Cadillac but the server convinced me to try this raspberry or some flavored one that was a bit more $$. It was just OK. At that price point (top shelf Margarita) they should be amazing and that's what I wanted and willing to pay For. I had a shredded beef Taco and Cheese Enchilada. Taco was good flavor but soaked and fell apart when trying to eat. Enchilada was really good but no red sauce or any other sauce like you normally get.. Rice and beans were good. The food itself is amazing, the service is awesome and attentive every time, however, now twice that i have been there when i get to the front im told a price that is over 10$ higher than menu price. the first time i was confused but paid thinking it was a service charge and service was good, so whatever. the second time i asked for my receipt before i left the table, i had ordered the exact same thing, lo and behold the receipt says 10$ less than what i paid last time, okay no biggie. i go up to the front and the lady tells me the exact same 10$ higher price from the first time i went, until i handed her my receipt and she quickly backtracks to say "oh sorry wrong order haha" now i get wrong orders, but the exact same price over 10$ higher than my receipt total, twice in a row?? the food is amazing, the service is great, i recommend this restaurant, just make sure you get your receipt before you leave your table if you dont want to be overcharged, which is unfortunate to me. 3 stars all in all, not bad, would recommend, might not go again. read more

WONT LET ME GIVE 0 STARS. I caution any person of color to think twice before coming to this restaurant. Multiple times I've attempted to give them the benefit of the doubt though the obvious discrimination is almost laughable. If you're brown or POC don't expect them to pay you any attention after they seat you and bring you your food. Be prepared to sit there and watch them brown nose all their white customers. Heard they'll even take shots with them, heck they even get to pay at their table!!! I never once have had my check brought to my table. Cherry on top, you express your concern to the "'manager" (young short boy) and the young female waitress and they'll just LAUGH IN YOUR FACE. GASLIGHT you by accusing you of treating them differently in comparison to how white people treat them (hmmm wonder why??). The lovely manager made sure to curse at me after kicking me out for EXPRESSING MY CONCERN WITH THE SERVICE. Unfortunate truly, as we did enjoy the food, but their quickness to LAUGH IN OUR FACE, GASLIGHT US, CURSE AT ME, AND KICK ME OUT is not worth it. Margarita made with crappy mixer, make it fresh taste like preservative. Fajitas should have fajita seasoning not taco seasoning. The fajita veggies were cooked great but the meet was tough and chewy. The cabbage slaw was a hit. De-scale your shrimp if you're serving it in a sauce with rice. Nobody wants to pick off shrimp tails while they are filling up there tortillas. Cool it down a little on the spicy salsa. Some people can't handle the heat. Offer customers Tabasco etc if they want there food spicier. Restaurant was clean and colorfully decorated, fun family atmosphere. It is also open late hours on the weekend, which is great. Went to this Mexican restaurant at the advisement of the Peppertree hotel staff. I was not disappointed. The chips and salsa were fresh with the cabbage salsa and a spicy red salsa to choose from; plus chips were crispy! Had the Chicken Mole Enchiladas and they were fantastic! A whole lot of food for about $12. I want to come back and try the carne asada with shrimp and mushrooms. Bith smdishes came with rice, refried beans and salad. Carne ssada came with guacamole too. The guys give you also some complementary tacos, salsa and salad to start, which is very nice. The quality of the meat and fish was supreme, the meat was super tender and the fish super flavorful. Portions are big so you can definitely eat enough! A family business for 10 years with mom, dad and son all working hard, all super friendly and attentive to our requests and questions. A nice bonus was the sopapilla dessert brought to our table. Service very fast. Had chips and drinks as soon as we sat down. Had chicken nachos as an appetizer. Chicken was a bit bland. Entrees also arrived soon after. The shredded beef was also kinda bland. However the rice was excellent! Whatever spice is on the rice should have been on the meat too. Have to say that we're use to Tex-Mex brand of Mexican food so our taste buds may be able to appreciate the flavor as much. The meal was filling and would recommend this place if you're really hungry and want as much food as your money can buy. Went to eat here yesterday and we were soooo disappointed. My boyfriend used to eat there with his parents when he was younger so he wanted me to try it out. When we first walked in we were seated immediately. The host looked like he didn't want to be there at all. Wasn't even friendly or even looked at us or smiled. Same with all the other workers. When we first sat down they didn't even bring us water. The silverware that was on the table was dirty. We sat there for several minutes before the host came back to give us menus and didn't even hand them to us, just left them on the corner of our table. It was over $40 for two people. Two meals and one drink. I ordered camarones a la diabla (shrimp and mushrooms cooked in a spicy sauce.) the sauce literally tasted like ketchup and wasn't even spicy. The rice was bland. And the tortillas that they served my boyfriend weren't even fully cooked. When we were finished they didn't even bring us a check, we got tired of waiting so walked up to the front to pay so we could just get out of there. If you want shitty service, or don't care at all this is the right place for you. read more

It took days to recover from eating at this establishment 5/3/19. I ordered the SEAFOOD ENCHILADA. Said to have 3 seafoods, crab, shrimp, and scallops I believe. My dining partner ordered the Colorado Burrito on my suggestion. (based on previous dining at other establishments) It took some time ( I now suspect trying to find alternate ingredients). I love seafood burritos and enchiladas. When dinner arrived ($15.95 x 2) I hungrilly dug in. Immediate ugh...tasted like the bottom of a pier. I tore the enchilada apart to see if I could recognize the culprit. There it was...what appeared to be a can of teeny tiny shrimp! There was no other visible seafood. The smell and taste were disgusting. It took 45 minutes to get the order. I was not going to ask for another dinner, I shoulda just waked. I tasted the Colorado beef, the sauce was as I expected, but the meat tasted very old, but tender! Two large burritos were served with beans and rice. I can say we both enjoyed the rice and beans. But at $15.95? Not so much. The real issue began about an hour later for me. UGH...although I only ate three bites. Two hours later I was struck with the worse case of diarrhea. For two days I regretted those two bites. The burritos my friend ate, terrible indigestion, and the next day she ran me out of the house. IDK who wrote those other reviews...maybe family. Okay, I'm no 'expert' on Mexican cuisine, but I do spend a week every year with my cousin who lives in Puerto Vallarta. We've taken the 'Vallarta Eats' walking tour (that EVERYONE who visits PV should do), sampling all of the best street vendors and restaurants in Old Town. Having said that, I think I have a pretty good idea of what is authentic, and not just another " #17 with beans and rice ". Visiting my best friend in Omak (long time resident), I asked him if there was a good Mexican place in town so he brought me to El Portal. This actually occured a year ago, but just to make sure it wasn't a 'fluke' we went there again just last week on another one of my visits; home run! It was just as good as last time! As usual, the meal starts out with beverages and their home-made chips...salsa that's pretty close to 'medium-hot' on the heat scale, and some pickled cabbage, so far so good! My buddy ordered the ground beef burritos (with rice and beans of course) and was very pleased with his meal (ate so damn fast he almost exploded). I'm a huge fan of mole' sauce so I ordered the pork burritos with mole' sauce...WOW. Not too spicy...not too runny...just right! The only thing I found different about the meal is the pork was more like small bits of a pork loin (?) roast, and not the traditional pork shoulder roast. I almost sent the meal back because I thought they'd given me chicken instead of pork...glad I didn't make a fool out of myself, cuz it was sure good. This is not a 'gourmet' Mexican restaurant, just a place to get a tasty meal that doesn't taste like the rest of the 'Americanized' restaurants one usually encounters. This place will definitely be on my food agenda every time I visit Omak. read more

I don't know how this place has any good reviews. If you like bland, watered down food this is the place to go. The beans were so thin I needed a spoon. The rice was just a tiny portion and full of grease. They don't even have to go boxes. It's food, I didn't die or get sick but it's just not good. Save your money and go buy a can of beans and box of rice at the Safeway next door. It will taste much better and save you a few bucks. The staff was perfectly nice and you got a small dessert after dinner. I wouldn't recommend it or come back though. read more

The waiters are super friendly and attentive. I usually get the carne asada burrito, the meat is super soft and flavor full.
