I was very disappointed in my service today. 1st time diner. Food would be a 4.5 out of 10 however, the integrity is not there. I ordered a mixed drink. It was made incorrectly so I sent it back and ordered another (more expensive) drink. When time came to pay the check I found I was charged for the drink I sent back and was not charged for a side I'd ordered. I brought the side order to their attention and let them know I did not drink the first drink ordered and had sent it back. They refused to adjust my check and refused my request to speak with the manager to explain the issue. I was just very disappointed. I do not mind at all to pay for what I eat or drink, even bringing their attention they undercharged me for my food. Zero for customer service. Very disappointed. read more

The food was ok but nothing we got excited about. Chicken was way overcooked and the tostada was a soggy mess. It started out pretty good. A good spicy salsa but it quickly went downhill. The cheese dip had a sour taste to it. Very off putting. Service was slow but our server was very nice and attentive. The live music was not my cup of tea either but to each their own. Got two chicken and rice plates with water and a Dr Pepper. I ate all of my food. My old lady didn't eat any of hers. She did not like it. I tasted her food. It tasted like shit. I am a plumber Ik what that shit tastes like on accident Lol. Ordered a peach margarita and it csme promptly...I had to ask the same waiter 4 times for a glass of water. Overall we were not excited about the Chios and salsa or any of the food we ordered in our party of 11. It has been many years since we visited El Potrillo and thought we would give it another try. Parking lot was full so that's always a good sign. We were seated right away. Chips and salsa were provided shortly thereafter but it took a little bit before we saw our waiter. Salsa was good, not super but not bad. Chips were meh. Just not fresh like other restaurants we have been to but not horrible. I ordered a fajita taco salad and my husband got the tacos de carne asada. My husband's a carne asada snob having moved from California so if he likes it you know it's good. My fajita taco salad looked meh at initial sight but once I started to dig in and mix it, the fabulously charred fajita steak presented itself and it was delicious. The taco bowl looked over fried but it too was just right. I would have given 5 stars if the chips were a bit fresher. All in all this place is not deserving of 3 stars. I never leave reviews. But I just left here and the service was awful. They took twenty minutes to come to our table to take even our drink order. We were ready for our full order then, but they had given us the wrong menus. So they gave us new ones and took another ten minutes to return to our table. Still with no drinks. The prices on the new menu were way up and had no lunch options. They completely missed my mom's order when they finally brought our food. They seemed very uninterested in serving us at all. The food we did get was merely average. Not at all worth what we went through. It was an awful experience and I will not be back. read more

Came here because I couldn't get anyone to serve me at the Longhorn restaurant when staying at a hotel in the parking lot. If you want good Mexican food, please do not come here. There is a reason they had a 3.99 Margarita special. It's because the food is not good, Cafeteria style Mexican. Chips and very hard and did not taste fresh. Ordered tacos and an enchilada. Ground beef was very greasy and the enchilada chicken meat was very cheap. If you're looking for good Mexican food, this is not the place. On our last visit we were seated outside after requesting it but no one ever came to bring chips and salsa or to take our drink or food order. The inside of the menu was completely soaked and dripping with some type of cleaner which irritated my allergies really bad. We finally just got up and left. Our 2 visits prior, the shells for the flautas and enchiladas had a sour taste. We removed the shells and the inside was fine. Not sure why the shells would be sour. We won't be returning. Patronizing local businesses isn't worth the effort when they don't appreciate your business enough to serve decent food and serve you properly. read more

We were celebrating Bday of our friend. Got to El Portillo to eat lunch. To my great surprise the prices on all the dishes were very cheap. My beef was very tender. I get tender beef in on restaurant out of 7. So it was really good to find a place with a tender beef))) Service was - so so. How do I put this? It's bland. My colleague loves going here. It's great for a quick lunch, standard Mexican fair... decent service and everyone is professional and nice. The prices are fair for the amount of food that you receive. I do like their table salsa, cheese dip, and chips. I think I've eaten there 3 times now. Twice for dinner and once for lunch. Let's see... the last time I ate the lunch steak, rice, and cheese meal. You can add veggies, but figured it wasn't going to negate the cheese, so why pay extra. The tortilla soup was really good. I feel badly when I write these reviews, because it's hard when you are used to a Mexican restaurant that was almost like your own Cheers... where everybody knows your name. The food is good here a little pricier than usual Mexican restaurants but I will say you get a larger quantity of food. The inside of the restaurant is very beautiful!! We went on a Friday evening it was 4 of us and had a 20 min wait @ 7pm to be seated and it took until 9:30 to be finished. Seems like a long time to me! The server was busy but we waited over 20 min just for the check. And that long in between to order and so on and so forth. read more

It was good mood food. Solid steak within the burrito which was amazing. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. Chicken fajita quesadilla was also good but the steak outperformed and it was just on another level entirely. It was a bit loud but it was a Saturday night so perhaps it's less loud during the week? While visiting Jackson for work, I needed a #tacotuesday meal and found El Portrillo to be very near my hotel- thankfully walking distance! They have tasty tacos, enchiladas, tamales, and -of course/ margaritas. Clean and comfortable tables, friendly waitstaff and greeters. Would definitely return. read more

My experience was horrible and the manager didn't care. I ordered a happy plate which consists of cheese and rice. I received a plate with (1) green bean (1) carrot (3) pieces of corn! Strange! I asked several waitresses do the happy plate comes with carrots, green beans, and corn! 3 waitresses said no! I'm curious to why my plate has vegetables. In Flowood on business. This place is a short walk from Hilton Garden Inn. I pulled up to a stool at the bar. Had a huge ice cold beer in minutes and chips and salsa. Chips and salsa was good, not spectacular but probably appeals to a wide range of pallets. The menu is encyclopedic. I think I spent 10 minutes reading it. I settled on Matt's appetizer which had bacon wrapped shrimp, chicken and steak quesadillas, tamales, and barbacoa and chicken flautas. As a meal it could easily feed two. The complementary chips were tasteless. I wonder when did they buy them. I ordered Spinach Enchiladas. The tortillas had the consistency of Al d'ente pasta. The worse part was that my refried beans was that I GOT the GRAVY, NOT BEAN ONE was in the sauce. The only reason that this not get a 1star was the time we were seated, the waiter and the house brand margarita . It was like I expected, good but not great . We've been coming to this restaurant for years - actually before they even built this location - but since COVID it has steadily declined. On our last two visits, the food has taken a very long time to arrive, arrived warm not hot, and order not correct. We ordered a chicken burrito, received ground beef; ordered a vegetarian plate, received a ground been burrito; ordered a top shelf margarita, received a regular. The food took so long that we just didn't have time to send it back so we ate what we were given. The original owner of this restaurant was incredibly conscientious and proud of this restaurant and in the hopes that he is still around we'll wait a few months and give it another try. Perhaps COVID has caused a big staff turnover but right now the food quality and service don't justify the price. read more

On August 22, 2020 I came in for a to go order. The place was packed! I ordered shrimp and spinach quesadillas. I gave the cashier a $2.00 tip. When I picked up my order the cashier knew who I was. So, I get home, open the bag, and on my quesadilla we're a few shrimp and a touch of cheese!! I called the restaurant, but it just rang!' They gave me 2 quesadillas at $22.00. The quesadillas were inedible. I'm never going back!! I gave this restaurant a 5 star review. Not now, I'm encouraging people not to go here. Leona Santamaria is OUTSTANDING!!!. She reviewed the menu and made Great suggestions. The food was Great (not to mention the quantity- I felt as if I was in N'awlins ordering a down "South" Shrimp Po-boy with a Hispanic hint of spicy with quality and quantity- and the same Hospitality. This is the #1 Mexican establishment in Jackson, MS. I'm not sure who the owners are but they have established a Covid 19 safe haven with the seating and hand gel. Sooooo read their fine print. Won't be frequenting them much anymore as I see this as deceptive advertising.....There are lots of good mexican restaurants to visit in Flowood. read more
