Food tasted okay, I did like the fact they didn't over cook the fajita meat it was moist and well flavored, but chips were stale! I wen to the bathrooms and felt like I went back 35 years ago to the authentic Mexican hole in the wall. They definitely need attention. I should have worried when there was only one car in the parking lot at 1:30 in the afternoon, on a Saturday Couldn't recommend until they clean this place up, turn it around folk!. read more

There are ways this could've gone better. For example the listed address is incorrect. I called for the correct address because we're just passing through and I had a NEED for nachos. Instead of giving me the address when I asked the girl that answered the phone asked why I wanted to know. A very odd conversation ensued, and it was at this moment I realized calling numbers off the internet can be sketchy. Eventually she girl felt ok with giving out the right address and we found the place. Seated, the girl from the phone is our waitress, we are presented chip and salsa and give a drink order. She got them wrong and that annoyed her that I asked for the unsweetened iced tea I ordered. Cool. We ordered dinner, nachos and burrito. Unsweetened iced tea arrived, sip, and its old swampy tea. Had I not been dehydrated from the road id have lived w it but I wanted an iced drink. So I asked for a Diet Coke instead this act solidified her hatred for me. She asked what was wrong and I told her, so she argued with me that it was made fresh every morning. Ok. I don't like it and can I have a Diet Coke Someone from the kitchen dropped the food at our table and we didn't have the heart to tell them the burrito was incorrect. Always been a good experience. Sometimes they get very busy and can forget what you asked them to bring when you're outside, but we have to be sympathetic to the stress COVID has put on all the restaurants. There is a large menu with very flavorful food. Good beer choices! The patio is in their parking lot and so you can sometimes be in the way of car fumes but it's still a lovely little place to eat. The staff has always been very pleasant and friendly. My fav was Jose. I'm not sure he works there anymore. But they are all good folks! Give it a try! I wish I could speak Spanish. Cheese Enchiladas! I feel like you'd have to do more work to mess these up. Worst -- Hands down -- cheese enchilada's I've had. Bland with marinera sauce? With the lettuce and sour cream smothered on top of that in a whole field of (more bland) rice. My wife's retried beans were just weird tasting and somewhat bland. The reason there are higher reviews? I dunno, maybe you were drunk or high, or lack taste buds. Fun little place, our server was prompt and informative with a smile or a joke. The food was inexpensive and filling. I had the special with a taco, a tamale, a taquito, queso, rice and beans with sour cream and lettuce, all for $9!!! The chips were hot and crispy, the salsa had a fresh snap to it with the jalapeños. The rest of our group had taco salad( almost to big to finish), a chimmie, and a soft taco plate. It was tomato's retarded cousin--the one who's only allowed to visit when he wears a helmet. The food wasn't terrible. It wasn't astounding. It passed for Mexican food, it filled me up, and it was cheap. It did its job. The toilet's review may tell a different story, but that won't be available until tomorrow morning. However, we need to talk about the margaritas. You can't piss in a glass of Sprite and call it a margarita. It needs more flavor than cheap tequila and ammonia. We were traveling through the area and came based on Yelp reviews. The address in the listing is wrong, but the restaurant has moved to a more visible location so it wasn't hard to find. The service was good. The chips were warm and the salsa was spicy. There was a smell of cleaning supplies when we came in, though, and our entrees were nothing special. I had two chicken enchiladas described as "topped with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream." The enchiladas were OK, and there was lettuce sprinkled over them, one half slice of tomato, and a dollop of sour cream on one end. My wife had the grilled shrimp salad. The shrimp were well seasoned and tasty, but the salad was mostly iceberg lettuce and the dressing was a pouch of ranch dressing. It wasn't bad, just kind of meh. read more

I decided to try El Puerto because of the good reviews. I ordered the Chori Pollo, which was a grilled chicken breast, topped with mexican sausage, onions, peppers, and a slice of pineapple. It also came with rice, beans, and two tortillas. The dish was mediocre at best. The chicken wasn't season to a specific taste, the sausage was gritty from the fat, and the rice and beans were standard. I was hoping with the pineapple, the dish would have been a bit more sweet, but the spicy mexican sausage over powered the dish. The rice and beans were your standard side dishes, nothing special to it. The chips were good. They were thicker than normal chips, so I thought for a second they might be fried in house, but the shapes of the chips were to standard to be home made. The salsa was average. read more

While on a road trip, we stopped to stay at a hotel nearby. El Puerto was within walking distance, so we decided to stop in for dinner. There were sixteen of us, so I have to give them lefty for trying, but the service was terrible. One of the young men in our party ordered a fajita al pina. This is supposed to come with tortillas, it did not. When he asked for his tortillas, he was shushed by one of the waiters. Another woman in our party ordered a fajita, but asked for it to be altered to not have shrimp. When she received her meal, it indeed has shrimp in it. When she informed the waiter, he said "There are only two, it will be okay." This is completely unacceptable and inconsiderate. I do not recommend for large crowds, but it may be okay for just a few people. read more

For years this was one of our favorite restaurants, always our go-to when friends and family came to town. Unfortunately it has significantly declined in every way recently. The food isn't bad but prices have increased a lot and the portions are quite a bit smaller. They now charge 85 cents for refills of soda and tea which you have already paid $3 a glass for. For our party of 8 today they supplied 2 baskets of chips and 3 very small containers of salsa, then charge $1.50 each for refills. Orders were served incorrectly and the waitress was not at all friendly, actually quite rude when we pointed out the wrong orders. Very disappointed and sad this has happened to what WAS our favorite place to eat out. read more

I felt the food was good. Worried based on some reviews but we had a good experience. The margarita was good as well. I had a dinner combo and everything in the combo was tasty. My wife had the fish tacos and she enjoyed them. The chips and salsa was also good. Still not sure why they mention Chorizo in the menu but can't seem to swap it out for beef like many of the places near Chicago... And well... Mexico. Nice interior with friendly staff and super quick service. I'm hesitant thought to use the term "authentic" as based on our experience this is essentially the same menu you'll find in most any town with chain or chain-like Mexican restaurants. This is Mexican food for the masses - there isn't anything wrong with that, but it's not terribly exciting either. Our food was fine, albeit a bit on the cool side temp wise. Overall a cheap place where you can get a colada or a tall dos equis on draft and spend $10 a person with your drink. Pretty basic, but a fun atmosphere for a small town. read more

This restaurant was terrible the service was poor the coffee was mud the food was mediocre and they got the orders all wrong. When I said just the slightest little thing I just said hey I don't think there's any sausage in the cheese and sausage dip the guys like giving me a hard time period and said well this is the way we've been doing it for 25 years. Now what really upset me was a shot of tequila don julio cost 11$ something and we are in the middle of no where in the mountains of Virginia I was passing through there for work and I originally come from Orlando fl where everything is touristy and a shot of don Julio cost no where near that much, maybe In a HIGHEND spot but at El Puerto, no. Lowkey felt like the Server was taking advantage as I was waiting for my takeout order when I met another truck driver who bought me a shot of don Julio to begin with and we started drinking.
