We stopped in Orangeburg for the night while on a road trip and got take out from Mami's for dinner. It was the day after Christmas, so the place was absolutely dead. Besides an employee sitting at the bar and watching TV, there was one other couple. The employee brought us some menus, came back to take our orders, and went to the kitchen to cook our food. The other couple left, and she said their food was good. The server/cook brought us our food and took payment. Turns out she was the on by herself. I had the Caribbean nachos which I enjoyed. Although this little gem is hard to find, tucked away on the backside of a residence inn, it's worth a visit for sure! I arrived at 8:30 on a Thursday. I was greeted and perused the menu. To say I was surprised to find a Puerto Rican restaurant in Wytheville is an understatement. For starters, the menu has lots of authentic Puerto Rican dishes. There are also some not typical dishes, which means that there are options for just about everyone. I had an alcapurria and an empanada for my appetizer. They were prepared fresh and were delicious and hot. For my main I had mofongo with camarones. (Twice fried mashed plantains with shrimp.). All the dishes were delicious. Service was fast and friendly. This is a small locally owned independent business and I highly recommend it. Head on over to Mami's today and get your taste of Puerto Rico! read more

Today was the second day in a row for paying a visit to Mami's. My family and I had another amazing dining experience this afternoon. Words can't express how great the food is here. These folks put their heart and soul into their cooking. We tried the Mexican tacos (grilled chicken, grilled beef and the beef,pineapple and chorizo tacos), pollo carbonara, arroz con pollo and empanadas - again. The service was good and friendly. Mami's has become our only go to place for phenomenal Mexican food in Wytheville. If you don't give Mami's a try you're missing out. read more

I am of Puerto Rican descent and was so excited to try mami's cafe. It was easy to find , however, it doesn't face the street, it is on the side of Ramada Inn. We were waited on quickly. My husband ordered the mofongo with lots of meat, and I ordered a alcapurria and chicken empanada.The mofongo and alcapurria were delicious! I ate the chicken empanada but will not order it again. It tasted ok, but I enjoy potatoes in my empanada. We finished our meal with flan de queso, yummy! We will be back!! read more

EVERYTHING went well!! The queso and chorizo dip along with ice cold Pacifico beers a huge treat! We stumbled on Mami's almost by accident traveling through. We didn't want to eat at the Travel food court and gas station. Mami's was right next door so we tried it and really enjoyed it. I'm a local, My wife found this hidden treasure on facebook. Myself, my wife and daughter had our first meal at Mami's this evening...I wasn't just impressed, I was blown out of the water with the flavor of this Caribbean delight. The rice dish I had was a Spanish type rice , chicken and a nice white cheese sauce with a Caribbean freshness that seriously surprised me. My wife had the same rice dish but had shrimp, pico de gallo, and the same white cheese sauce, she also loved her meal. My daughter had a cheese covered chicken burrito with rice, refried beans in a tortilla with a healthy about of cheese sauce. I'll be going back to eat soon. I promise pictures and a better review. We had eaten at one of our local Mexican restaurant last week had comparable meals the bill for us three was over $90...at Mami's $61. One last thing it's attached to Ramada off of Pepper Ferry Road and it looked like they have a fully stocked bar. read more
