I should've went with my first mind and ordered from another spot, but I work close to this one and decided to order pick up before heading to work. Waste of money. $24 on the Texas Fajita lunch combo and a medium cheese dip. My first Question is Where's the Flavor?? Tastes very watered down, like no seasoning on the meat AT ALL. The rice is HARD and also has no flavor. Let me also mention the possible Eyelash that was folded up in my tortilla shell.. if it's not an eyelash it's Definitely a hair from some other part of the body and doesn't belong to me. The food here is awesome. Everything I order is great. They have mild salsa at request for people who order French fries at a Mexican restaurant. Carnitas two can split this dish but the best thing I like to order is shrimp cocktail! Back again as always this is the favorite go to when we don't want to cook or just can't decide where to eat. I had a very affordable and tasty lunch of the chicken taco salad. It was quick and fresh. I enjoyed the seasoning of the salsa and complimentary chips. My waiter was friendly and efficient and kept my water filled and dishes cleared. The restaurant is huge so not full even at lunchtime so was quick seating and service. I would prefer more seasoning in general and specifically in the refried beans and rice however overall was a tasty meal. read more

Unfortunately I can't speak to anything beyond the Chili Poblano...This was a winner as poblanos are illusive creatures and finding one worth having again and again is not an easy achievement. Worst service I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. I never got chips and Salsa. First and last time coming here. I had to flag a bartender down at the bar to order. They didn't ask me if I wanted a menu. I had to ask twice for silverware and the guy I asked didn't speak any English, I had to ask to Pay the bill. They didn't even have it written up. Also I attended a white elephant gift exchange here for a group and I'm not sure but it got taken from our table because I left it by accident and the group I was with said they didn't see it so Merry Christmas. El Rancho is Extra Delicious! Is it worth the drive from Muncie or any surrounding area because it definitely beats it's competitors in the County. It's hard to stop eating the chips and salsa. The salsa is so fresh. Not overloaded with onions like most. Nice bits of cilantro to keep it zingy. Just the right amount of heat. We had.... Shrimp and Steak Fajitas---Super Awesome! Lots of steak and shrimp perfectly seasoned with an enormous plate of sides. Camarones Especial- Awesome! Plump juicy shrimp, huge fresh cuts of avocado, lots of lime to squeeze and loads of sides. Total winner! Enchilada with Pollo- excellent sauce. My mom loved this! Tamale with Pork-rockin' sauce with super juicy pork. A top shelf margarita and imported beer..... Hometown establishment meets Mexican food. A staple in the Muncie community has been Puerta Vallarta. It is very good, but for my money going into a restaurant and having the folks know your name and really appreciate your business is invaluable. A family establishment who go above and beyond to make your visit a quality one. Chips and salsa are a given. Good beer selection. Full bar. Overall good experience here. Went on a Monday night and had a big group. They accommodated a big table for us and everything. Took drink orders quickly. Food came out very quickly. I got Enchilada Verde and it was yummy. But portion for the price was off. It was about $11 and I got 3 small Enchiladas in corn tortillas and beans and rice on the side. Very little I feel compared to other Mexican food places. Also when we were finished with our meal we waited a very long time for to go boxes and our check which was a little big annoying. We popped in for after church lunch (ha), and were pleasantly surprised. I can't remember ever wanting to eat in Yorktown, but that's life. Sure, it's an old Dairy Queen, but the kitchen cranks out a full menu a la Puerto Vallarta, and probably seats 50. Decor is fresh and with all the requisite trappings of sombreros, taxidermy (?), Indian heads (?), and toy robots (!). Futbol on the TVs and a mix or Norteno and Mexican dubstep (que horible!) over the PA. Choices were pretty standard, but there seemed to be a few more regionally themed items - the Guadelajara, the Jalisco, etc. Still, the basic taco/burrito format prevails. Free chips were standard and refilled, fresh salsa was chunky and piquant. I ordered my favorite chilaquiles and for my luncheon date, carnitas enchiladas. They came out soon enough, and we were pleased with the presentation. The chilaquiles were not the soft tortillas, chicken, and cream sauce casserole I'd expected, but it was still very tasty. The enchiladas were awesome, pork was perfectly cooked, great green sauce, but maybe too many onions. The guacamole looked very fresh, with leafy cilantro and heaps of garlic, but was far too salty. The ubiquitous rice seemed like a holdover from this location's days as Bamboo Garden. Oh well. Everyone likes fried rice, am I rite? Service was super friendly, albeit a tad on the slow side. I didn't find a language barrier, but I hablo espanish. Rancho Poblano isn't the hole in the wall taqueria or tamale shack I'd love to have nearby, but it gets a B for serving ok Mex to gringos. Just opened. It took the place of the Bamboo House which took the place of the Dairy Queen. They have an extensive menu including the back page which is just the lunch menu. They have a full service bar. We experienced just a bit of a language barrier. My wife ordered the Poblano Taco Salad. What showed up wasn't even close to the description. First the waitress said she had not ordered the taco salad. That simply wasn't true as she ALWAYS orders the taco salad. The only way she would not order a taco salad would be if the establishment did not offer one. So after defending the fact that she did indeed order a taco salad, the waitress went to the cook, who then came out to the table to explain to her how to order from the menu. Always good to know! Eventually she received her taco salad, but it was way after the rest of us. Thirty two years of being married and now I find out she just learned how to read and order from a menu. Who knew? The food was good, and arrived hot. Two types of salsa for the chips, regular and mild. There might be a hot, but those days are behind me now. I sincerely hope the restaurant makes it. It seems like an odd venue for a restaurant with such an extensive menu. Prices are on the high side for Yorktown, IN. Lunch specials went for 5.29 for the Speedy Gonzales to 8.99 for the Steak Fajitas. Dinner prices 10 to 15 dollars. read more

Okay, I am giving them 5 stars, technically it is 4 but I what I really want folks to know is that this is the best Mexican cuisine in the greater Muncie/Yorktown area. This area is typically such a wasteland when it comes to fresh and delicious Mexican food. But El Rancho Poblano gives me hope. I lived in California for 12 years and was spoiled at the quality but I don't want to give up eating Mexican food so I try all of the restaurants and this one fills the bill. I have thoroughly enjoyed their fajitas and margaritas. Their food is so much more inspired than anything in Muncie. The quality of food, the diverse menu, the care and presentation is all very nice. I had dinner at El Rancho Poblano this evening with my husband and son. We were all very impressed. The salsa was nicely flavored with fresh cilantro. The chicken and pork in our tacos and enchiladas were moist, tender, and flavorful. The meat was higher quality than other local Mexican restaurants. The enchilada sauces had rich, homemade flavors. I do like the chips and salsa and some of their food is just okay. I don't eat their chicken anymore - my experience is it is always very dry and plain. I have had very bad and sometimes very slow service. I have not been there in a while because last time I was there the server got argumentative - I asked for a margarita frozen and he brought it on the rocks than acted like I was inconveniencing him and had an attitude. This place was disgusting I first got my food and the waitress did not know what she was doing. The hot sauce is way to spicy even for a taco and burrito restaurant just to spicy. So after I've had my hot sauce I try to cool my self down with some water doesn't work I know cola isn't going to work but whatever I dont have anything to lose so I try that disgusting that makes me throw up. Then I finally come back and try to eat.
