Hubby and I decided to stop by for lunch on a Sunday and give it a try. We got there right when it opened. It was very clean. We sat at a booth, which theirs are higher seated and I liked that. Waitress was very nice and attentive! We started with hush puppies (moist and flavorful) and 12 raw oysters on half shell (super fresh!) Our meal consisted of 2lbs of crawfish, 2lbs of headless shrimp, and 2 clusters of snow crab legs. It came with 4 corn and 6 potatoes. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned! Our 2 year old had hush puppies and mini corn dogs with fries. The only thing that caught us off guard was the price of the snow crab legs ($77) 4*19*26 that was a bit above what we have paid before at multiple places and very recently to this date. Living in a small town that's full of BBQ and Mexican food, this spot is a nice change. They offer plenty of options on the menu, even for those not a fan of seafood. And, everything tastes fresh! The service was absolutely top notch when we were there. Was quite busy and a tad noisy but not bad. Cute little spot with plenty of seating inside, as well as an outdoor patio. The service was friendly and fast. The beer was ice cold and reasonably priced. And most of the seafood was really good. Surprisingly the crawfish were overcooked which was disappointing, but the Po Boy was fantastic and the Gumbo, while a bit thin, was very tasty. We love el rey and are here at least once a week. This is definitely our go to seafood place. They have great drinks, good food, and good service. My favorite is the snow crab but the gumbo is pretty dang good too. My boyfriend loves oysters so he's had every kind here and says they're great. The catfish nuggets are perfect for kids and the fish is always good. read more

First start off with service: There 3 waitresses for the restaurant. They were over whelmed and over loaded. Food: ceviche and kids catfish were good. The crawfish and crab seasoning was not good. Dry and came out cold. My step son who's birthday it was his and our other sons food came out when we were already half way done. By that time they already lost their appetite and wanted to leave. Asked for extra sides and sauces that were never brought out. Almost 250$ for nothing. Didn't complain cause we didn't want to be "those people". Very disappointed. Walked into a quite place where I could hear the people next to me chewing. No background music is played, instead they have a jukebox where it's $1 a song. I save my cash for tipping. If you end up with April as your server, good luck! First, others that arrive after you will get their meals first and then your appetizers will arrive with your meal. Servers are running around all confused. Another has long black hair down to her low back and all loose, not tied back, and enters into the kitchen like that too. And then she swings it around and lifts her spandex pants. I get stuff like that happens, but do it behind closed doors, not in front . Literally, just sit back and watch, since there is no music this is your distraction of watching them run around and the swing door slamming. Food though was great! First time since Covid and it was pretty good. Mom wanted catfish and I had the shrimp. Mom loved the fries, i wasn't too crazy about them. The coke slaw was good but it had too much of the slaw sauce. I like mine a bit in the middle, not too dry but not swimming in sauce. The meal was good. Staff was prompt and the order was ready very quickly. Going back to catfish, the flavor was good and the breading could have been a bit crunchier. We enjoyed the meal. read more

The food definitely gets 5 stars, but the staff isn't the friendliest of staff. The food is amazing! The spice isn't intolerably hot, you can still actually taste and enjoy the food. From the outside you would probably expect a place that took over a restaurant that shut down, but inside is actually nice, clean and new. I only wish that the crew actually acted like they wanted you to be there. I just kind of felt like I was interrupting their break or something. This is probably one of the better restaurants in Lockhart, so I will be back, but hopefully the people make me feel a little more welcome. read more

This was the worst food I've had in a long time. Everything was way over cooked and rubbery, even the corn. The "6 sausages" my order came with were 6 thinly sliced bites of sausage. The potato was a single tiny red potato. The seasoning was not great either. The best thing about this meal was the standard crinkle fries like the frozen ones you get from H‑E‑B.
