Good place. Got a flat tire on the way home from vacation and Walmart was a little behind. Decided to grab some dinner and this hit the spot. All 4 kids ate and it was good. Not to authentic but will work for someone broke down in West Virginia. The best surprise here was the beans. I don't eat beans but the wife does and she said they were amazing. Not sure the name of them but it was beans mixed with some meat and onions I think.

If you want the short version then read no further. Best TexMex restaurant in Fairmont hands down. Now, for the foodie version.....Centrally located to major shopping venues in Fairmont (read WalMart), it is located in what is called the "Middletown Mall." You need a 4 wheel drive to navigate the potholes in that parking lot if you come in from the Shop And Save side. Enter from the intersection closest to Bob Evans, but remain wary of the potholes that will send you to your car dealer for repairs if you hit one. The Middletown Mall is an old mall that is devoid of any significant businesses, save a couple of restaurants, a couple of bad grocery stores, an FBI office, the DMV extension and a mattress store. A number of chain restaurants and a couple of motels are nearby. In short, the perfect place for a fantastic TexMex restaurant! The owner, Francisco, used to work at the Mexican restaurant which is on the other side of the road (250) from the mall close to to the Urse car dealership when it was located at the Middletown Mall. When he left that restaurant it went down hill instantly imho. So, you have two choices if you're looking for a Tex/Mex restaurant in that area and basically Fairmont in general. El Rey should be your choice. El Rey serves both regular Tex/Mex fare AND traditional Mexican fare. On the regular side you have your fajitas, tacos, nachos, salsa, etc. BUT what El Rey has that the other doesn't is traditional Mexican food....mole sauce, street tacos, sopas...AND service. I've eaten at family owned Tex/Mex restaurants in Texas and California. I've eaten at Mexican restaurants in Mexico. This place is as good, if not better than any that I've eaten at. If you're savvy enough to order off the menu they can handle it. The servers and service in general beats the other hands down! I particularly like the street tacos. The owner, Francisco, and his employees seem to always be there and are genuinely interested in your opinion of the food, service and restaurant in general, unlike the other restaurant across the street where the employees seem to care less and talk on their cell phones while you check out instead of asking about your experience in their restaurant. In summation, eat at El Rey if you're anywhere near Fairmont and looking for outstanding Tex/Mex and traditional Mexican food. You won't find better in Morgantown, Fairmont or Bridgeport! read more

Much better than Mi Pueblo. My way of comparison, the service is significantly more attentive at El Rey, and the food comes in larger proportions. read more

Mariachi Loco was empty. However, over next 35 minutes restaurant filled to overflowing with a full waiting area, and folks lined up outside. Mariachi Loco is clearly Not a hidden secret.... We selected several different menu items. Mariachi Loco offers an extensive Tex-Mex menu including shrimp. This 5 star dining checks all of the boxes. Servers are well- trained. Let's hope ICE never conducts a raid. Server's English is "rusty," so be prepared. Ambience - 5 star Servers - 5 Star Dining - 3.8 Star My mathematical average = 5 star. Expect Mountaineer Pride, and wear your Mountaineer garb. Apparently no one's mother trained the men to not wear ball hats in a restaurant. I will say again that I definitely appreciate the thought that went into creating this menu- you could tell the owners are trying to be inventive and bring new flavors to a town in which those might not normally be available. However, the execution was lacking....the mushroom sauce did not have a lot of flavor, and instead of "microgreens" like the menu stated, the burger came with salad greens on top (nothing wrong with that; it was just unexpected). I am sure if we ordered another burger we would have liked it better, because the waitress assured us the beef is never frozen, and the patties looked to be a good size and have a nice crust to them. In terms of ambiance, it is more of a hole-in-the-wall find. There was only one other table with people when we arrived, and the two employees were chatting in the kitchen, which you could hear clearly because it is a smaller space. Despite it not being visibly busy, the other tables seemed still to have crumbs on them, and my husband and I had to wipe off our own table before sitting down. Again, I hope this does not come off as being rude or prissy- I wanted to like this place so badly and would be open to trying it again in the future. I love a good dive spot for burgers! However, in JAG's case, I think a little more seasoning in the food and running a tighter ship in terms of cleanliness and service could go a long way.
