I can always tell if I'm going to enjoy Mexican food by the guacamole and chips. I was surprised at how bland the guacamole was. It's not very good at all. This place didn't meet our expectations. There was a lot of hype surrounding the opening, and we had to check it out. The rice was very clearly from the bottom of the pot, as it was hard, dry, and over cooked. The food overall was just meh. We much prefer Taco Love Grill which is just a little further away on Philadelphia Road. The el saltorita we got was very watered down with little margarita mix in it. Maybe it's better frozen rather than on the rocks. That being said, the service was great and the restaurant had a true authentic feel to it. read more

I've been going to the el Salto in Parkville for years until the one in perry hall opened. Same delicious food here as Parkville. The salsa is very mild and tomatoe-y but I like that. The guac is yum, queso is great. Veggie quesadilla never disappoints. Love the atmosphere too. read more

I have been to many Mexican restaurants and by far this is the worst when it comes to Mexican flavor. The number one plate in any Mexican restaurant is the fajitas and if they are not on point nothing else is. Although I went to the new location In Perry hall the restaurant itself is outdated by its type of music and design. This may have worked well for the chain in the mid 90's thru the 00's. Some of the best food and service around. If you want good Mexican food this is the place to go. The wait staff is very friendly and quick to serve you, and the margaritas are top notch. The restaurant is beautiful, the decor is outstanding, it's all very clean, this includes the restrooms, spotless. I've never had a bad meal or experience at this restaurant. Sooooo let me start of by saying that I Looooove Margaritas but this place margaritas were not good at all! Moving on the food was just what I had a taste for and was enough for me and my friend to share ( I did get a side order or rice which helped) the chips and salsa was nice but the salsa was not spicy enough so I asked if they had a spicier salsa and was give a oily/ greasy none spicy something needless to say I tasted it and would never do it again. I'll stick to Taco Love Grill it cost more but the margaritas are better as well as the food. We love the original El Salto and have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this new location. We went tonight and it was PERFECT! This location is beautiful. The floor plan is great and the bar is lovely. Even the bar stools were great. The service was quick and the food was on point. It tasted THE SAME as the other locations we have visited. Sometimes a new restaurant can be a bit of a mess but not this place. The prices are so good and the drinks were equally awesome. Check it out and definitely get the queso con chorizo and a margarita. Chile relenos are also a personal fave but everything is so good it's hard to decide. Ugh. We used to love going to the Parkville location until the food was not so good anymore. Were loyal customers for many many years. Needless to say, we stopped going so often. We passed by this new location and decided to try it out. I ordered the Acapulco salad and added steak. BIG MISTAKE! These little tiny pieces of charred meat were so tough and hard that it was inedible. I hate making a fuss and sending food back, but I asked the server if this is what their steak normally was like, and she said yes. I told her it was dry, tough, and unable to chew. She was very kind and said she could get me another side of steak and how would I like it cooked. I asked for medium rare. She came back pretty quickly with a plate of steak that still wasn't medium rare, but it wasn't dry and burnt either. Sadly, it was still very tough and not good. Moral of the story? Stay far far far away from the steak... my husband and son both got chicken, and that seemed ok. How could they mess up steak so badly? The restaurant is beautiful and spacious, parking isn't a problem, and the staff is nice. Just wish the food were better. read more

This ain't it, chief. Stopped in here tonight to see if this new location could become an easy go-to when we didn't want to go too far for Mexican food. Nope. We waited a good chunk of time before being acknowledged by a server - not the best start, but it's a new spot, and I'm sure things are still being worked out in that regard. The margarita was...not good. No other way to say it. On the rocks, it was mostly ice and tasted like it was from a mix. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like plain tomato sauce until I added a little of the table side hot sauce. I ordered carnitas tacos and the meat was unfortunately pretty dry. Carnitas should be a little crispy on the outside, yes, but the meat should retain moisture. These did not. Pico de Gallo was decent as was the spicy tomatillo sauce. Fajitas were okay, nothing offensive but certainly nothing to write home about. Refried beans and rice were ordinary and just fine. Save yourself the heartbreak and check out Tacos Tolteca in Fallston instead - much better, and will remain our go-to spot! read more
