We always get take out and the food is ready pretty quickly, especially considering how busy it gets at times. I love the Cole slaw topping that comes with the pupusas. It's tangly, a little spicy and so crunchy. It's the only spot that makes it the way I like it. And the pupusas are soft and just divine. Super tasty and not greasy. I have been to this place years ago, so it was nice to see that they had renovated the place & It was really beautiful. It felt very native. I ordered two bean and cheese pupusa's, which came with coleslaw and salsa. It was really good but it was a lot of cheese I would've ordered 1bean& cheese and one bean next time it was really good it was hot and fresh. I got a side of avocado and some chicken enchiladas. Found another hidden gem. Eventhough I ordered to go the people who were seated I saw that thier food looked good. I ordered 2 pupusas. A pupusa is a thick flatbread from El Salvador made with cornmeal or rice flour, similar to the Venezuelan and Colombian arepa. It is usually stuffed with one or more ingredients. These may include cheese, chicharrón, squash, or refried beans, such a delicious simple meal. The waitress was extremely sweet and accommodating. Everything on the menu looked reasonably priced. I'm hoping to come back soon to this restaurant to sit and eat an entree because it is seriously authentic and the pupusas with the vinaigrette slaw was delicious. read more

I can begin this by sharing that I really enjoyed the food! It is a local place that has moved into this bigger space and rightfully so. You know I love to supper a local business and this place was good. Came here for a Sunday lunch with my family, we were seated quickly and the place was buzzing. There were people at every other table and it was groups from families with kids, some teens and groups of adults. We ordered our drinks which were truly a Large. Huge cup with lots of Horchatta to enjoy. Then we ordered Yucca w/ Chicarron, Pupusas, Mixed Plate and the Churrascos plate. The food took about 15 minutes to come out no complaints as I enjoy fresh hot food and it did not disappoint. The pupusas were the star of the show along side the Chicharron and churrasco. The rice and beans were nothing spectacular but they weren't bad either. The price was about right all the food considered and it made for a great Sunday afternoon meal with the family. I would only say I wished they had more servers as it was evident when it got full there was more work than hands to attend but that isn't a deal breaker. All in all I give it 4/5 stars and recommend it to you if you want authentic Spanish food from Central America. read more

What an amazing place! Pupusas are a Salvadoran delicacy, and this restaurant took me back to my youth in Brooklyn, hunting down legit Salvadoran places with my family. El Salvadoreño is the closest I've found to perfect pupusas outside of the city- they're the exact flavor, thickness, and combination of ingredients needed for excellence. In addition to the delicious food (the queso and revueltas are amazing, as are the mixtas), the service is wonderful. Everyone in the restaurant is kind and helpful, and they make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. The staff are also multi-lingual, so non-Spanish speakers can feel comfortable ordering, too. The ambience is old-fashioned and roomy, but lively. Definitely worth a visit any time! read more

UPDATE: came back the very next morning for breakfast. Loved it. I ordered El Desayuno Salvadoreño (Salvadoran Breakfast), which is tortillas, plantains, scrambled eggs, and beans. Delicious. Everything, including coffee, for under $10. I've never been to a restaurant that's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But they seem to have a steady customer flow, day and night, and a reliable and attentive staff. Whatever they're doing, they should keep doing it. Reasonably priced. Absolutely delicious food. 1 star is being generous. The food is subpar, I assume the higher reviews are due to the lack of options in the vicinity for Salvadorean restaurants. The revuelta pupusas are missing seasonings and the beans are runny. While the food being below average is enough to turn me away, the service is atrocious. My child is allergic to dairy and when her hamburger came out with cheese (making it a cheeseburger, even though I ordered a hamburger) the waitress argued with me that a hamburger comes with cheese and I should scrape it off if I don't like it. I was served a coke with a dead fly on top. I brought all this to the attention of another server and whoever it was sitting behind the counter and there was no attempt made to rectify the situation. Omg Yummm!! I had the pupusas. One with cheese, one with beans and cheese & 1 with cheese & pork! All three were absolutely delicious!!! I also ordered as horchata. I'm from San Diego so I'm used to Mexican horchata and I'm very picky about them being made properly but this Salvadoran horchata was one of the best I've ever had very different from Mexican but I absolutely loved it! They have moved a few blocks from the hole in the wall to a nice airy place at 346 Broadway. The place is very comfortable with a real family atmosphere. The food was fresh and delicious. The cortido (the cabbage that comes with pupusas as an accompaniment). Was much more flavorful and complex than any other place I have tried. This place is definitely worth a visit. I did a quick Google to find pupusas to surprise my Salvadorian wife on her birthday. I found this place and ordered cheese, cheese and bean and meat pupusas. I was nervous never having ordered from this place. My wife knows what a good pupusa is supposed to taste like. Well, I'm glad I did., My wife and I loved them and will be back Saturday for their breakfast. The best pupusas I've had at a Salvadoran restaurant in NY. They char them perfectly so the cheese is nice and crispy on the outside. The fillings (like revuelta--pork and cheese) are so flavorful. We love to come here for breakfast!! We used to go when it was in a different building. The mixed pupusas with shredded cabbage and sauce are wonderful and so filling I only only ordered 2 today. My husband ordered horchata to drink and it was great. It's made from rice water and cinnamon and it's delicious. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful.
