As a former student, I'm sharing my experience to warn current students and parents. Around 2016 or…read more2017, when I was a freshman, the current principal of Alisal went through my phone without my permission after a teacher, Mrs. Omasters, claimed I recorded a fight that happened in the hallways. I told them multiple times that I hadn't recorded anything, but they still took my phone away and kept me out of class while searching through it. What made it worse was that another student who actually did have recordings wasn't punished or questioned the same way. When the principal found nothing on my phone, she even asked why I was there -- exactly what I'd been saying all along. That situation made me feel completely violated and powerless. I didn't know my rights at the time, but I've since learned that students have a right to privacy, and what happened was not okay. I originally posted this review before, but it was deleted, which makes me feel like they're trying to silence honest experiences. I'm reposting because parents and students deserve to know the truth. No student should ever feel targeted, humiliated, or have their privacy invaded the way I did. I'll continue to share my story so that what happened to me doesn't happen to anyone else.

Lincoln Elementary is a growing school with grades K-5 offered beginning 2012-2013. (sixth grade…read morewill be added the following year). It was recently reopened after a school closure and with the hard work of caring parents and support from the community has re-established its library and many school functions like a Fall Festival and Parent Teacher Organization. In the 2011-2012 school year, it also added a Dual Language Program where Spanish speaking and English speaking children learn together to become fluent in both languages. These programs are highly sought after in the Bay Area and have proven results for student success, bilingualism and biliteracy. Other similar programs have long wait lists and the growing popularity will no doubt make this school a destination of parents looking to raise culturally aware and bilingual children who will go on to take a third language in high school. The school also offers preschool in English and a Spanish Immersion option. If you are considering Lincoln, I recommend contacting the principal for a tour and ask to observe in a classroom to make a decision that best suits your child and family. We have been at Lincoln for almost one full school year and it's been a fun year and I see my child has grown so much in his development. UPDATE Fall 2013 We are about to start our third year with Lincoln and I'm very pleased with my son's progress in the Immersion program. I've gotten to know many teachers on the staff (Standard English Instruction and Dual Immersion) and I have to say you can't go wrong by sending your student here regardless of what path you choose. In Spring 2012 the Junior League along with parent volunteers revamped the school garden and courtyard area. There is an overall great community feel at this school. Of course not everyone is happy, but as with anything, you can't please everyone. To be sure this is a great school, I encourage interested parents to meet the principal and take a school tour and visit a classroom.
