Cod in Tomatoe sauce with red peppers

This place lived up to the hype and must be seen if you are visiting Madrid. As starters, we had the croquettes and Black sausage, which were great. The roast suckling pig is all they say it is and more. We also had the roast baby Lamb, Filet Mignon Botin, Cod in Tomatoe sauce, and Grilled Sole. All were absolutely delicious. The desserts were also scrumptious. We had rice pudding, carrot cake, Flan, chocolate cake, all were just great. The service was stellar. Everything about the experience was perfect. My son and i both wanted the pork and the lamb, they put both on our plates. The restaurant itself is like walking through a museum. Beautiful art is everywhere, and the very old architecture is preserved well. I wish I had done the tour. Ensure that you make reservations for this very popular place. I think I'll be back for lunch.

No Madrid visit complete without a meal at Botin. Yes, it's a tourist trap. And yes, the food is good but not great. And it did not help that we had eaten at Jose Maria in Segovia the day before and is the subject of a 5* review. Sorry, the suckling pig is a whole league ahead of Botin. We had reserved for 4 but our guests got sick. Did not seem to be a problem. But the asian American ladies in front of us had their reservation cancelled as they were the only ones present. We therefore invited them to share our 4 top. The maitre d was peeved. Seemed a bit racist. 90 mins later we were full of lamb and pig washed down with the house wine, a nice Ribera - and met two nice Bostonian conversationalists. Overall Botin impression? It's cool, old, rustic, the hardest reservation to get in Madrid. The food is good and service to match. It's also a tour stop for tourists to marvel over the outside of the venue. Got to do it once. Shameless tourist. Oh! And unlike the review below. They open at 1300 for a first seating.

This restaurant opened in 1725 and holds the Guinness record for being the worlds oldest restaurant. They roast their meats in a cast iron wood burning stove that has been in use since they first opened. You need to make a reservation and if you do not show up within ten minutes of your reservation time your seating is canceled. Everyone on staff was amazing. The service was top notch and the food was excellent. We went there knowing that we were going to order the suckling pig after watching the Madrid episode of Somebody Feed Phil. It was as delicious as it looked on the show.

I was excited to try this restaurant as its the oldest continuously open restaurant in the world, though I did have my reservations that the food might not be up to the highest standards as I read that they "haven't changed the recipe in 300 years". I will say the suckling pig was better than I imagined! Definitely recommend that dish and the croquettas, but I'm sure anything on the menu is great. The ambiance was cool as well.

I ordered the set lunch which came with an appetizer, entree, dessert and a small bottle of wine. The staff was very accommodating I even got a complimentary plate of cheese. Once seated, I couldn't help but be in awe to be inside the worlds oldest restaurant.

The oldest restaurant in the world. Literally. 4 floors, but the basement was amazing. Dinner reservation requires a month, but you can walk in for lunch. If you can swing it, get the $50 lunch; suckling pig and all the extras (starter, wine, bread, dessert, water.)

First off, if you decide to go here you should do the tour of the restaurant. I love the history behind the restaurant and all the food. I had the lamb and it was superb. The mushrooms and gravy were also delicious and were very flavorful. The tuna and sauce was a little fishy but tasty. The cheesecake was the best cheesecake I ever had in my life. I hope to visit this location again soon. It's truly a gem. It was also nice touring the kitchen and seeing the piglets and the basement area of the restaurant. Everything about this restaurant was perfect.

Think this Yelp list has the name wrong as it's actually called "El Sobrino de Botín" or also known as "Casa Botin" located in Old Madrid, Spain is the oldest restaurant in Europe dating back to 1725. When I last visited Madrid we had a special occasion to celebrate and when we asked hotel concierge they suggested el sobrino de botín as a very good restaurant and could be a memorable place to celebrate the occasion while in Madrid, Spain due to it's rich history and the ideal place to go. Being the weekend the concierge offered to call and make reservations since this place is always full and over booked on weekends. I heard them explain occasion and sure enough we had reservations for dinner at 8:00pm. We arrived at restaurant and it was packed, when we checked in with hostess they acknowledged our reservation and our special occasion and processed to give us a tour or restaurant including kitchen and proceeded to seat us in a more private area which was nice to be away from large crowd. Waiter was very friendly and helpful in our wine and dinner selection.Decoration was wood and classic as we could have imagined in old Madrid. Food and service was excellent and overall this place was a great selection and was very grateful for concierge recommendation. And highly recommend this restaurant if your in Madrid anytime soon. .

Juicy and crispy.... mmmmmm.... So good! It's a gotta have when u r in Madrid!

    Roasted Suckling Pig

Is a Spanish restaurant in Madrid, founded in 1725, that is the oldest restaurant in the world in continuous operation. Over 290 years, the cozy restaurant is famous for its roasted suckling pig that was even mentioned in a Hemingway novel. The flame in the restaurant's oven has kept its flame continually burning too! Definitely a must try experience for hungry history buffs!

I wanted to dine here because of the experience and to taste the suckling pig that everyone raves about. I was disappointed with the taste, although crispy and tender, the taste is bland. If you want to see relics and experience what it fees to dine in the oldest restaurant in the world , then it is worth it! However don't expect much from the food , there are far better restaurants in Madrid. The best thing in the menu was the dessert , do try the grandma's recipe cheesecake , it's the best one you'll ever have !

Very good Services. Gazpacho soup was rich, tangy and refreshing, perfect for a sweltering summer day. Roasted suckling pig was juicy tender and rich in favor. So was roasted baby lamb. Crema Catalana was kids' favorite. Of cause ice cream was a must for a hot summer day. Both foods and services are 5 stars.

I visited on a rainy Thursday night so there wasn't a large crowd and I grabbed an open seat at the end of the bar. A friendly gentleman gave me a menu and asked what I was interested in. When I mentioned the Old Fashioned, he advised that it was an Amaro-based version without the usual bourbon/whiskey spirit. I noticed a Brooklyn and commented that I sometimes made those at home. Very politely he noted that if I was making them in the US, it wasn't with Amer Picon, which isn't available in the US. He's right. So an actual, real Brooklyn it would be! I thoroughly enjoyed the Brooklyn. I also enjoyed some brief conversation with the bartender who was very good. The kind who uses the spoon or straw to taste each drink to ensure it was made properly. As I was paying my bill and mentioning to the gentleman who initially greeted me that I wanted to bring my business partners here later in the week, he wrote his phone number on a business card and told me to call him in advance as the bar got very busy when it wasn't raining. Turns out, this friendly man is Alberto the owner! Guess I didn't do quite as much research as I could have! I regret we weren't able to make a second visit to 1862 Dry Bar on this particular trip, but it is going to be my first stop next time I'm back in Madrid. Great vibe, excellent staff and a classy and friendly owner.

Settled into the very cool cavern-like subterranean space with rough stone walls, vintage blues show posters and a terrific Chicago blues soundtrack. A waiter who spoke English took drink orders, and everybody got bowls of sunflower seeds in the shell. It got crowded, but not ridiculously so, because they limit admission, letting a few new people in when others leave. They feature a rotating roster of blues bands who each do a three-night run. Check out their web site (it's their Facebook page) for who's playing. As usual when I see a music listing somewhere, I looked the group up on YouTube, to check out what they actually sound like. The combo we caught - The Maria Avilas Quartet - came on at 9 pm. It was a good-time Chicago-style blues band with guitar, standup bass, drums and a female singer, and we stayed for most of the second set as well. The crowd was really upbeat and friendly, and the beer was cold. Later in the evening, the waiter offered selected people (lucky us!) free mini-shots. Bottom line: we really enjoyed the place, and highly recommend it for a fun evening out.

Good selection of beers and liquor... the bartender makes a very good Mojito (almost every table had one). Generous pours on all drinks. Decent beer selection.
