Let's start with expectations: this is a joint with $, not $$, $$$ or $$$$. I had nachos supreme for under $5 and it was more than I could eat and better than I expected. I travel a lot for work, and I've eaten out so much that I really don't enjoy it (only because I hate eating out without my family) whether I spend $5 or $50. So yes, any week I'm in town, I'll eat here again, probably once a week, maybe even twice. read more

I almost always will choose a local place over a chain restaurant. I didn't set my expectations for the moon because it is more or less fast food. I ordered a few things - a couple tacos, a burrito, and chips and cheese. The taco's were the most bland and flavorless tacos I've ever tried. The shells had a stale musty taste, and no flavor. The meat didn't seem flavored, and the chicken was not really a shredded consistency but a wet soggy mess. The burrito was just plain not good. And the chips and cheese were a handful of chips in a paper boat-dish with a bit of really low quality cheese sprinkled on and then microwaved till the cheese is hard and the chips are soggy - and all of it fused to the paper dish. I didn't eat much of it at all and that's a shame, because it's expensive for what it is. There are much better options either sit-down restaurants or fast food that will save you a few bucks and not leave you wondering if that was supposed to be Mexican food or just a really, really bad joke. Since it's a local place, I'd love to say it's good - but it's a big no from me, both for my wallet and my palate. read more

El Taco has to be one of the best restuarants in Butte. They have friendly staff and fast service. the food remains excellent as it has been for years. read more

Skip Taco Bell for this local Favorite in Mexican Fast Food. El Taco has been in Butte for as long as I can remember. They have excellent tacos, burritos and enchilladas. They have there own signature Tacolada that is a great dish to try. Don't forget to add the Spuds and Cheese to your order. read more

This place was the worst place I've eaten at here in butte. I ordered a Supreme chicken burrito no lettuce or black olives and I got shredded chicken and cheese no beans which I wanted and it was folded like a soft shell taco soaked in salsa. My fiancé ordered a shredded beef enchilada with extra cheese there was no corn tortilla or extra cheese no sour cream or salsa and it came so small my 11yr old wouldn't even be full. And it cost us close to $20.00. My so called burrito was cold too when served. read more

For fast food, El Taco really surpasses the mark. They are a local favorite and although not a classy establishment, their food is good. Some days are better than others, but if you're looking for a local alternative to Taco John's or Taco Bell, this is the place. The chicken strips are my personal favorite along with the spuds with cheese. read more

This was easily, EASILY the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. Its like something out of a bad episode of Restaurant Impossible, except somehow it is possible. I ordered a "Fajita Combo", which wasn't a fajita at all, but a taco, with chicken that was obviously not safe to eat from the taste. The beans were dark brown and crusted over from sitting under a warmer all day. Even the chips were stale. Plus the atmosphere is really tacky, and everything was filthy dirty. Fast food style Mexican fare. Very fast service, in and out in less than ten minutes with my to-go order. No drive-thru, but walk-up window service is quick. Has inside seating if you want to stay. For a Mexican place I find the food a bit bland, but there is a small condiment bar in the rear seating area with jalapeno's and sauces to "punch it up" if you like. This works well, not everyone wants to sweat while eating tacos. read more

Went here thinking that this might be some hidden gem in this old mining town. Boy, was I wrong. I ordered a burrito and some super/supreme nachos and what I got was something that I could've made at home with the cheapest store-bought products. Better of at Taco Bell. Service was good. Salty chicken, low quality products. The tater tots were good. Nice people, BAD Mexican food.

A true Butte classic, if you happen to be driving through town, need a quick, tasty tex-mex meal than this is your place..
