First of all, I have never left a review on Yelp or any other site before, I felt compelled to do so now. I would like to say that the service was excellent, and the quantity of food was more than adequate .. We were passing through and were recommended to try Lydia's by someone who has been going there all of their life. My complaint is what I paid and what I got. DO NOT order anything off the menu that says "market price" unless you ask. That was my mistake. When we got the bill my steak and lobster was $162. I have never paid that much money for a steak and lobster dinner anywhere in the United States.The steaks on the menu ranged from $40-$50 based on the one I got. It had no flavor/seasoning. I guess I thought if you order a steak in Montana it would taste good. That means that the lobster was $110.. it did not even taste like lobster even with the drawn butter they provided. I had to ask my wife what she thought, same response. The best thing with my dinner was the french fries. At least they were consistent. and tasted like french fries My server was more than apologetic and went to the manager and they did give me a 10% discount on the total . That helped but again was not worth it even with the discount I guess I expected a lot and did not get what received. My ordered something different and was happy with her dinner. read more

You hear about roadside classics all. the. time. But Lydia's Supper Club has been a mainstay on Harrison Avenue for almost 60 years. The building itself is a landmark of mid-century design, particularly the dining room with its sunken main section and the bar. Have they updated the interior design since opening--well maybe in the late 1970s! You come again and again for the "supper club" experience--once common in Montana and now so rare to find. Every dinner comes with multiple courses. The relish tray is gone, replaced by sweet potato salad but the salad course is better with a few salami and cheese triangles on the side. Anchovies on request. The pasta course still has the red meat sauce and spaghetti and ravioli (the latter was undercooked). Then crispy French fries too. Once you do the carb load, it's time for the beef--all pan fired perfectly. I had the porterhouse, because I could, while others loved the filet. There are chicken and fish options too. But you come here for the beef IMHO. The wine list is sparse but the cocktails are classic, and solid. Loved my old fashioned. Throughout all of the courses the service was spot on. I have always loved Lydia's. However, it is not the same as it was when I was growing up. We ate there for my sister's birthday and it was pretty good, not great. . Twice now, I have ordered take-out and had a drink in the bar. I was dissapointed in the take-out, the drinks and the bar. The bar looks a bit shabby. The mirror behind the glasses is dirty. A pane is missing from the area where you sit. There were no napkins or straws on the bar and the poor bartender needed a server so he could focus on drinks and the bar. The spaghetti and ravs were very ordinary. Not like it used to be. I think that Lydia's needs new management and a chef to bring back the old glory. It is too valuable to Butte and Butte's history not to be a first class restaurant and bar. I remember how good it use to be. Sad and disappointed, now. I gave three stars for nostalgia's sake. I do like the ambiance but the bar needs to be redone and upgraded. read more

Lydia's exists in past glory. The parking lot and exterior have not been touched in 40 years. We ate there last week after it was recommended as the best meal in Butte, but honestly Taco Bell is better. the lamb chop was overcooked. The menu states there is an appetizer platter but it's one piece of salami and half slice of cheese on the side of your salad. The hostess was bored and more interested in her nails than seating people. My wife's salmon was done well, otherwise it would be 1 Star. read more

Was referred here by a client - and was excited to try. Waited at the front for a while where a few staff made eye contact but did not come to no help. Sign says wait to be seated so I waited and waited. Plan was to have a drink and order to go. They close at 9 I arrived at 8:30. They had at least 10 tables still seated and a full parking lot but was told by the lady that finally came to help me that they are "closed". What a shame. I said oh I thought you closed at 9... it's only 830 The lady's reply was "we close at 9". Well okay- it was 8:30? I would have been gone by 8:50.... Had she let me say so.... Oh well, Cute spot. Very disappointed in the quality, class and ingredients. If you claim to be a high class Italian restaurant there are several things you should do and not do. Don't use processed cheese in the salad, don't put out cheap tiny breadsticks in plastic- use good long bread sticks or realistically an Italian restaurant should have bread. Don't serve wet half mashed sweet potatoes- that is not sweet potato salad. Do serve the appetizers before the meal not during. On a hot sunny day close the blinds so people can see each other. The main courses were okay but way overpriced. same food cheaper in other restaurants. To charge people for using a credit card is extremely cheap and wrong because we all know that you added that to the cost of doing business long ago. So you are having the customer pay twice. Remember, people don't mind paying for quality, but they hate paying for cheap. read more

This place was a different kind of restaurant than what you typically see in Montana; hence the name "supper club." The food had a southern style slant. The fish was excellent. They had cold sweet potato salad. That was a new one for me. Their decor was a little old and swanky but I loved it! The middle of the restaurant had a sunken rectangle floor with more tables and the lighting was a conversation piece. They had oval high backed booths and there was a red velvet theme. The food was definitely worth it. It's a place everyone should try once. PS no kids in there...which I thought was odd. Loved it! read more

Don't bother. Went here for my sister's birthday. She ordered Veal Scallopini which was tough as shoe leather. For $37! She sent it back and had them remove it from the bill which they did. I had the $43 halibut which was good but way over priced. The salads and house dressings were tasty while the pasta was mediocre. Service was subpar. The waitress mixed up our order and it took a half hour longer to get my fish. For a fine dining establishment it was really lacking both in food quality and service. We'll never go back. read more

I'm old (67) and I remember dining at Lydia's many years ago when the relish tray came first with carrots and celery and salami and olives. bread sticks fresh , not packaged in cellophane. Cocktail servers knew a cocktail onion was served with a Gibson. Sorry, but I miss the gals who called you hon, and didn't have a nose ring. Fries are a waste of food . TURN AROUND! Do NOT eat here.... The inside is just a crap as the outside. Worst place in Montana, our server Lisa lean was so bewildered on their menu. She didn't know what sauces went on the dishes she didn't offer what the next tables server offered. The lime aioli on the calamari isn't available and we got ranch instead, when i asked the server Lisa Lean she gave me a dumb look like it was her 1st night. For the salad dressings she couldn't even tell me what the house dressing was. She didn't offer us anchovies nor sweet potato salad, she didn't offer us white or red sauce on the spaghetti. Which was all fine until we got the food and the King crab stunk and tasted like a week old left in the gutter trash crab. My daughters filet order medium well came out blue mowing & the WACK Server Lisa Lean says ohhh whoops med WELL & med RARE sound the same.... What an idiot :( my sons ribeye was med rare and tougher then the shell on the crab! I explained all this to our server, showed her the steak was to hard to cut. She started to argue with my kid that it has fat in it, when my son stepped in and explained that the menu says marbled and a nice marble steak should tear apart. She started to argue some more and blatantly said nope I'm not going to argue as she said ohhh ok and walked away. STEAKS HAD ZERO FLAVA needs lots of A1. We didn't take any food home i didn't touch but one leg of my crab & nothing was offered to make our visit a pleasant one. My wife and I ate at Lydia's yesterday. The food was terrific. We love the sweet potato salad that comes with every meal. We had fried chicken and it was good also. We found the spaghetti and ravioli that comes with each meal delicious. The waiters were courteous and paid attention. The ambience was enhanced by the 15 ft wide Tiffany chandelier and the many stain glass windows from all over the world. I didn't see any problems that were mentioned in other bad reviews. Went in on a Thursday night, expecting a clown show based on some of the reviews others have posted. This place did not disappoint. Maybe I have been working in Montana too long, but I am from a food town, big city. I am well-traveled and familiar with the foodservice industry. I am a demanding and highly critical patron who often laughs at what qualifies as a decent restaurant in rural areas. Regardless, I found nothing wrong with this establishment. It was clean, well-decorated, and classy. The music selection was superb. Steaks and seafood well-prepared, to the liking of my Montana-bred counterparts. Limited menu? I would agree it could benefit from less of fries and more baked potatoes, as others have mentioned. More bread and fewer crackers, yes. But I didn't miss that one bit... this spot feels great because it is unique, quirky, and properly managed from my viewpoint. Zero issues with the cheery and intelligent server staff, who all coordinated their efforts to ensure we were attended to throughout the meal. The menu was slightly confusing with the "accompaniments," but there wasn't a moment when we weren't shoving something hot and tasty into our food holes. The dining room was pleasant and quiet, allowing table conversation which the waiter skillfully avoided interrupting. Relaxing and satisfying after a long, stressful day. Sure, the restroom trash was hard to reach with your used paper towel, but I am really digging deep here. An enjoyable experience, and at a good value, too, even in the current economy. Visiting Butte last week, our friends took us to Lydia's. I found it very odd that our salads were already sitting at our table when we arrived. We had two apps, the "fried" raviolis and the goat cheese crostinis. The ravs were NOT GOOD. The goat cheese thing was AMAZING. Our steaks came with the oddest "sides." A plate of spaghetti with garlic sauce (very good!), a plate of regular raviolis (just okay) and....french fries. Those weren't great at all. My steak was good, my husband VERY much enjoyed his salmon. For desert we tried the fried oreos and they again were just okay. The decor and ambiance, however, is outstanding. Super old school, very retro design and decor. I loved that a lot. read more

This restaurant is a true gem for all the right reasons! First, the history of the supper club and the relationship of the owners and chefs to this amazing 20th Century institution. Next, the incredible interior that takes the best of mid-century modern and Victorian era (like a supper club would!) the service is excellent - the sort of care that your family history talks about (back in my day...)And then the food. The recipes are traditional, this is not a fusion place or a 21st Century menu, but they do the 20th Century so well. Prices are beyond reasonable...I know people say they are expensive, but the food is super high quality both in preparation and ingredients. If you are looking for a dining experience that you will remember fondly for years and years, this is the place. I would argue this is one of the Crown Jewels of Butte! read more

This place is an experience! It's been around for a long time and I think that's why people keep coming back. When you arrive, you've got a salad with "antipasto" on it. With some very questionable looking salad dressing offered. Breadsticks are small pre packed ones in a basket. When you order dinner, you are simply ordering a protein because your dinner comes with fries, ravioli, and spaghetti with red sauce. All which are pretty good. Otherwise food is meh! Lydia's is a step back into time. We came to Lydia's when we travelled back to Butte - it had been 25 years since out last visit. Dinner was a solid meal starting with the cold fresh salad that was waiting for us at our table. The sweet potatoe salad is still as good as I remembered. We had the rib eye steak and the house steak. Both were cooked perfectly. The pasta was a perfect el dente. Lydia's has a well appointed wine list that we had no problem selecting the perfect pairing for our dinner. We stopped at the bar after supper for a nightcap .... Absolutely like being transported back several years (in a charming way). I had read the reviews on here about this gem. I don't understand them. This is a family owned and ran business that is carrying on a family tradition that is a welcome change to the cookie cutter establishments that we are all used to. Highly recommended. HOWEVER: We were excited to see Veal Scallopini on the menu. Knowing this was an Italian restaurant we felt confident it would be good. The menu said "medallions" of veal. By definition is tenderloin, part of the cutlet, or in some cases eye of the round. We received GROUND OR PRESSED veal. Menu was totally inaccurate. It was horrible. We would have never ordered this had the menu said what they were doing. We did not want to make a scene so we elected to call the restaurant last night. My Husband researched restaurants in the area and saw that Lydias was an upscale Italian-American Restaurant, so we thought we would give it a try. The place is very dated.. I have never been to an Italian Restaurant that serves bread sticks and butter.. The Salad was wilted and what Italian Restaurant does not have Italian salad dressing? Pretty sure the raviolis were frozen, they had no sauce and NO flavor. The spaghetti was not much better. We were looking forward to the Prime Rib which is only served on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately they were out because their meet delivery truck was in an accident. We were told the Halibut was the second best seller on the menu (I love Halibut) so we went with that and the Salmon. They both seemed to be breaded with the same thing. They were both dry and flavorless. Then of course there was the Margarita that seemed to be just the mix with no alcohol at all! I can't leave out that we were ALL freezing cold as the air conditioner was blasting. Not a good experience at all but we are all laughing about it today. Skip this place and go to Casagranda's Steakhouse! I give them 5 stars! read more

A long time ago before an open pit mine swallowed Butte's Italian enclave, northern Italian women owned and operated restaurants in Meaderville. They created foods that centered not on pasta, but on chicken, pork, beef and veal. Then their neighborhood was torn apart and Lydia's moved to the very bottom of the hill. At Lydia's, food is an experience anchored by the Italian history of Butte, and the talent of the famed Lydia Micheletti who immigrated from Sasso Ferrato, Italy to Butte in 1920. Beyond the history is the dining experience. Tall red velour booths coddle the eater while they relax and enjoy dinner throughout the evening. Each meal begins with antipasti followed by an entree of meat with sides of homemade ravioli and spaghetti. There is something uncomplicated, but unique about the food here. My family has been going to Lydia's for generations. Stopped there feb 13 to find the place PACKED. The bar...packed! No social distancing. The receptionist met us near the door and no mask! Being horrified by this we decided to get takeout and go home and so we were sent around to the back door to pick up our order. From the back door pick up counter you can see into the kitchen. To my shock, wait for it. ...no masks!! One cook was wearing a mask a second cook was wearing a mask over his mouth only s no one else had a mask. C'mon people. Wake up! Superb food, especially for the house ravioli, I had to ask for a second serving. I ordered the dinner steak which is a tenderloin and it was TENDER! The dinner came with all sorts of things: salad with 3 different dressings, sweet potato salad, salami, cheese, anchovies, and scallions. Topped it off with a glass of red wine and that hit the spot. Had reservations on Christmas Eve. Showed up and to our surprise the entire place was closed!!! No idea what happened. Why did they take our reservation? Why are they closed? Why didn't they call us so we could make other arrangements? We had nowhere else to go on Christmas Eve. Even the grocery stores were closed so we couldn't make something at home. This is a very popular local place for the older generation. The menu options are very expensive, not a thing under $18, even the kids menu was above $9. Very old style salad course with an ice berg salad with French, thousand island and a dreadful water blue cheese chunk sauce. There were one little appetizer for each person, 3 small pieces of cheese and salami, 3 green onions with ice, mashed sweet potato, packaged breadsticks and 3 slices of beet. When the main meals arrived sides also came to share family style. It was nice to have multiple sides but nothing tasted flavorful. The ravioli just tasted like starch and spicy meat with a watery red sauce. The prime rib and chicken were delicious according to my friends. A table for incoming guests was set and all prepared but the host made the waiter redo everything even the tablecloth because she said it looked terrible. We had a wonderful waiter named Levi but there was an awkward girl walking around asking if anyone wanted drinks. He atmosphere was very dark but the booths were comfortable. The first thing the host said when we walked in was "oh you don't have a reservation" so I have a feeling it's mainly a regular customer type of place.
