Dining room--yes it is dark 1960s style

You hear about roadside classics all. the. time. But Lydia's Supper Club has been a mainstay on Harrison Avenue for almost 60 years. The building itself is a landmark of mid-century design, particularly the dining room with its sunken main section and the bar. Have they updated the interior design since opening--well maybe in the late 1970s! You come again and again for the "supper club" experience--once common in Montana and now so rare to find. Every dinner comes with multiple courses. The relish tray is gone, replaced by sweet potato salad but the salad course is better with a few salami and cheese triangles on the side. Anchovies on request. The pasta course still has the red meat sauce and spaghetti and ravioli (the latter was undercooked). Then crispy French fries too. Once you do the carb load, it's time for the beef--all pan fired perfectly. I had the porterhouse, because I could, while others loved the filet. There are chicken and fish options too. But you come here for the beef IMHO. The wine list is sparse but the cocktails are classic, and solid. Loved my old fashioned. Throughout all of the courses the service was spot on. Attentive and responsive. And prices? Totally fair for all of good meals you can have here

    Lamb chops.

Lydia's exists in past glory. The parking lot and exterior have not been touched in 40 years. We ate there last week after it was recommended as the best meal in Butte, but honestly Taco Bell is better. the lamb chop was overcooked. The menu states there is an appetizer platter but it's one piece of salami and half slice of cheese on the side of your salad. The hostess was bored and more interested in her nails than seating people. My wife's salmon was done well, otherwise it would be 1 Star.

Swanky decor, sunken restaurant floor & lighting. Loved it!

This place was a different kind of restaurant than what you typically see in Montana; hence the name "supper club." The food had a southern style slant. The fish was excellent. They had cold sweet potato salad. That was a new one for me. Their decor was a little old and swanky but I loved it! The middle of the restaurant had a sunken rectangle floor with more tables and the lighting was a conversation piece. They had oval high backed booths and there was a red velvet theme. The food was definitely worth it. It's a place everyone should try once. PS no kids in there...which I thought was odd. Loved it!

    Lisa Lean is crap!

TURN AROUND! Do NOT eat here.... The inside is just a crap as the outside. Worst place in Montana, our server Lisa lean was so bewildered on their menu. She didn't know what sauces went on the dishes she didn't offer what the next tables server offered. The lime aioli on the calamari isn't available and we got ranch instead, when i asked the server Lisa Lean she gave me a dumb look like it was her 1st night. For the salad dressings she couldn't even tell me what the house dressing was. She didn't offer us anchovies nor sweet potato salad, she didn't offer us white or red sauce on the spaghetti. Which was all fine until we got the food and the King crab stunk and tasted like a week old left in the gutter trash crab. My daughters filet order medium well came out blue mowing & the WACK Server Lisa Lean says ohhh whoops med WELL & med RARE sound the same.... What an idiot :( my sons ribeye was med rare and tougher then the shell on the crab! I explained all this to our server, showed her the steak was to hard to cut. She started to argue with my kid that it has fat in it, when my son stepped in and explained that the menu says marbled and a nice marble steak should tear apart. She started to argue some more and blatantly said nope I'm not going to argue as she said ohhh ok and walked away. STEAKS HAD ZERO FLAVA needs lots of A1. We didn't take any food home i didn't touch but one leg of my crab & nothing was offered to make our visit a pleasant one. After we got the bill we asked to talk to a manager and GUESS WHO ISBTHE MANAGER LISA LEAN THE WORST SERVER IN THE WORLD! I was a server for 15 years at some very high end restaurants, i love serving people and this Manager is a perfect example of a lady who does drugs or drinks on the job. LISA LEAN is absolutely the WROST MANAGER i think she is mental! I will NEVER REFER Lydia's supper club! Was the worst experience I've ever had in my entire life! Let me say the spaghetti red sauce taste like chefboyardee spaghetti Os BARF the ravioli BLAHHHH tasted like a mix of Vienna & spam. The butter isn't even butter HOW CHEAP CAN THIS RESTAURANT BE? Best b part we weren't even offered ice cream or dessert.

We arrived a few minutes early and were greeted by...nothing. No hostess. No check-in. Just a growing crowd of confused couples and families standing in the hallway. After about five minutes of watching absolutely nothing happen, my sister went inside. Other guests confirmed they also had not seen a hostess and were unsure if one existed. Eventually, my sister tracked down the bartender, who explained that their online reservation system had "done something" and tables were double-booked. Once tables cleared, we should be seated. No list was made. No names were taken. It was first come, first hope. We ordered drinks and stood at the bar. My sister felt bad for the people still waiting at the door and explained the situation. Several wisely left. (We should have followed.) Thirty minutes in, we asked for bread and received four slices of focaccia for a party of seven. My mom--now officially hangry--asked to see a manager. None appeared. She went to the restroom in the hotel lobby next door and struck up a conversation with the front desk clerk, who generously gave us complimentary warm DoubleTree cookies. The hotel next door had better service than the restaurant we were supposedly dining in. We continued waiting with zero communication. When we finally stopped a waitress to ask, we were told "15 more minutes," because customers were lingering too long over their food. While standing at the bar, we noticed coffee mugs full of wine being sent into the kitchen. There were no bussers, no barbacks, no hostess--just three waitresses and a bartender working New Year's Eve. After two hours, we were finally seated. We ordered another round of drinks. My wine never arrived, though I was assured it would be "right back." After 15 minutes, I went to the bar myself to retrieve it. When our orders were taken, we were informed they were out of their specials and the four-course dinner. Salads arrived, and then we were told the waitress forgot to order two veal dishes. We could wait an additional 30 minutes for one of them to be re-fired. Also, they were out of the potato side, but we would receive extra vegetables instead. My sister opted to skip her veal and just eat her pasta side. Shortly after, I realized I never received my salad and again had to go to the bar to ask for it. When the entrées finally arrived, my "extra vegetables" turned out to be two lonely asparagus spears. When I asked about the rest, the waitress shrugged. My father's seafood fettuccine came with two shrimp, and the calamari was raw. He pointed this out; the waitress apologized but did not offer to comp the dish or fix it. She did explain that some kids were helping the chef/owner, who was in a bad mood and "won't talk to her." Moral of the story: if you cannot handle service on New Year's Eve, do not offer it. And please, hire a manager. I suppose it could have been worse--honestly, just read the other reviews.

We started with the smoked arctic char which came with gluten free (gf) seed crackers and roe. The char was extremely flakey and fall apart tender. Everyone's entrees came out shortly after and we had zero complaints other than the risotto being too salty. The staff graciously offered to rectify straight away by remaking, offering another dish, etc. Stand out would be the veal tenderloin which was tightly wrapped in prosciutto and came with seasonal veggies. Service is outstanding and thoughtful from start to finish. Examples include pulling out the chair for me to sit, offering to make dishes gf where possible due to my allergy, consistently refilling drinks, clearing table between appetizers and main course and bringing fresh cutlery/plates. For the wine connoisseurs, they have an extensive wine menu (basically a book honestly) and even have a sommelier on premise.

Dinner service was fantastic as our waiter was very attentive and helpful; breakfast can be a hit or miss depending on how busy they get. Valet parking over at the Montage Food- 4.5 stars Grilled Venison loin- this was perfectly done. Not too salty; perfect balance with the sauce to really accent the fresh elk taste without being too gamey branzino- very well done as well. perfect balance of all the flavors with the vegetables and fruit added pork porterhouse- this was delicious as well. I did like the venison better because the pork did get a bit dry at parts because of how large the cut was beef tartare- really well done and an excellent starter bolognese- pretty good as well caesar salad- excellent presentation, but it did get a bit salty dessert- they had a raspberry mousse dessert and a chocolate peanut butter bar. both were excellent, but I really liked the raspberry dessert because of how balanced it was Service- 5 stars Food came out quickly and the servers and bartenders were really attentive. Bottom Line Excellent Italian restaurant at the Montage. Dinner was fantastic, but docked half a star because of how salty some of the dishes were.
