Hola from Brock I came to El Tacon Madre and let me tell you... the fideo + chips = chef's kiss. So good I had seconds of BOTH. That's how you know it's serious business. Slurpy noodles, crunchy chips, zero regrets. My roommate (aka my mom) ordered the tacos rancheros and she wasn't a huge fan, but that's okay because more attention should be on my fideo anyway. Great service and good chips and salsa however the friday special chicken fajita i would not recommend , first bite of the chicken i thought something was wrong did they forget to season it ? chicken only tasted cooked no other flavor though. need to probably marinate the cut pieces of chicken in something before cooking it‍ read more

Drove through on our way back to Austin from Big Bend. The meat on the tacos was super tender and perfectly cooked. The green salsa was amazing, I only wish there had been even more of it! The homemade chips were great with these too. read more

Their service was impeccable. Very kind, happy to serve, sweet people. Love the location and the big windows by the railroad track. I love a railroad track. The chips were obviously homemade and incredible. I'd come back just for them. The "salsa" was warm and chunky, but I don't know that you'd call it salsa... more of a wet sauce... but it was great. Not spicy, but great. Speaking of not spicy, nothing was. The rice was bland, the beans were bland, the chile relleno was bland. Very disappointing. Now look, the relleno was packed with beef. Filling. Just no flavor. The beef wasn't spiced, the cheese was cold and added at the last minute (I assume). There was a lot of it, though! Tortillas were really good. Food is always delicious when I order from the food truck. Excellent service picking up. But unfortunately ones you eat inside food is not to the same level the tacos where very hard. Very good taste but it seemed like they were there for a while. Customer service was not it. They never checked back on us after dropping off food. We had to go pay upfront and they didn't even know where our check was. The restaurant is very nice and big. I loved the chairs and tables the plates were served so beautifully in a "plato De barra" They really bring the Mexican culture to a t. Looked promising but I wouldn't spend my money here. First interaction was with a grumpy ass waitress who didn't even greet us. After around 5 minutes of just sitting at the table a different waitress came who was more pleasant. Then as we attempted to order . They didn't have this they didn't have that!!!!!! Disappointing!!!!!! No coffee, no tacos which is that damn main name of this joint, no menudo!!!!! Didn't want to put coffee on because "it would take too long". Hidden away near downtown Del Rio is this must-try food truck / sit down restaurant combo with the most incredible authentic Mexican food. Best Mexican food in Del Rio! First time I went there, I got the tacos bistek - street tacos. Sooo good! Fresh tortillas, grilled steak, with cilantro and onions. Second visit I got the campechana - basically a big quesadilla filled with steak and pork. Absolutely delicious! The prices are very reasonable, and they even give a military discount to boot! We live outside town and only infrequently come in to get restaurant food. We had heard of Tacon Madre, but could not manage to get there during their open hours. We finally made it, and I'm very glad we did! My wife had her favorite Tapatios, and I opted for Tacos de Bistek. Both dishes were outstanding! My five little "Street Tacos" were hot and delicious. I got both red and green salsa. The red was fairly mild, with a bit of tang. The green was flavorful, and had exactly the right amount of "kick". The nice young lady came right to our car to take the order. We got our excellent meal quickly, it was hot and tasty and INEXPENSIVE! $14 and change for the two of us. Sure the food is super great but waiting for it is not worth it! If you go through the drive threw expect to wait 1hr + which is not reasonable. I ordered a simple order of a lemonade and a docena. They took care of other vehicles with larger orders which makes no sense and in the end of it all I ended up getting a refund. Manager lady named Yvette could care less. Go elsewhere!! I got extremely lucky to discover this place when visiting this small boatder town. Nothing fancy, just good food. Actually, I was so happy with my first meal (and service) that I returned for a second try. My 2nd experience was just as satisfying that I had to share.
