To start, we ordered the queso fundido con chorizo. It arrived at our table bubbling hot - check out my video- with a mix of warm corn and flour tortillas. I'm guessing the chorizo was housemade because it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. We also got some elotes-style corn that was so sweet and lightly charred. I also selected the gaonera, suadero, and chicharron ribeye tacos. All had great "over the coals" flavor tucked into fresh, soft tortillas. Make sure to save room for dessert. I got the fondant de chocolate. Our server advised it would be a 20-minute wait, but it was totally worth it - beautiful presentation with a molten chocolate center. Good value and great experience!

The first time, our group of four sat outside in the courtyard, which was so cute and had a great atmosphere. Their mezcal selection is incredible--everything from Espadín to Tobalá to Madrecuishe. We were so excited to see mezcal from one of our favorite places in Oaxaca on the menu! The server was super fun and kept the good vibes going the whole night. We ended up staying for two hours (and even canceled our dinner reservation somewhere else) because we were having such a great time. The food was amazing--we shared tamales and chicharrón, which paired perfectly with the mezcal. The courtyard was amazing, the music was awesome and it was just such a fun scene. A few days later, we went back and sat inside, which was just as great. We ended up chatting with the table next to us and loved being able to try so many different mezcals while learning about each one. That's what I love most about a good mezcalería--the chance to taste, learn, and truly enjoy the experience. La Miserable has everything: a killer mezcal selection, a welcoming vibe, and great food. Once the table was cleaned properly we then order drinks that arrived about 10 minutes later and we placed our dinner order. 1.5 hours later we still had not seen out waiter so we tracked him down and asked about our food . We were told it was coming up and would be out in 5 minutes. 25 minutes later still no food . We asked for our bar tab and told the hostess we were leaving , we did this several times and then the waiter showed up part of our order. The food was cold to touch and the sauces had congealed. We again refused the order and asked for our bill. After 5 minutes I went to the bar to ask what we owed and the waiter presented a bill that was not ours . I questioned the bartender and he agreed that was not what our tab. The owner was at the bar had an unapologetic attitude towards our negative experience. We spent over 2 hours here and truly felt ignored . It was not a positive experience and we will not be returning. On a side note the large party of 20+ people that arrived an hour after we order where enjoying there meal and 5 star service that we felt we also deserved.

They let you valet for free if you eat at the restaurant. I ordered the grilled octopus with chorizo and pesto and I really enjoyed it. Lots of flavor and a good combination of things. You get 2 tentacles. My partner got the catch of the day with black beans and garlic sauce and an avocado and tomatillo salad. The fish today was amber jack. His dish was a little sour and not as much flavor but he still liked it. He also got a Chardonnay. There were only 2 types of whites to choose from by the glass and they were Mexican wines. The wine was different because it tasted like someone put a splash of port in it but it did go well with the fish. We also got the strawberry dessert. Strawberries with cream and strawberry ice cream. It was tasty and a nice way to end the meal. The service was good and friendly.

They make as many of their syrups and bitters as they can, so the cocktails are fresh and flavorful. They have a great classic cocktail menu for you to look at, but they have some specialty drinks as well. The bartender was making their jamaica (hibiscus) concentrate when we were there. I asked what he made with that, and a mezcal jamaicita was what he said. Of course had to try it! It was maybe a little sweet for me, but still tasty and unique. We haven't tried the food, but love the vibe and of course the dog that wants all the attention. If you are looking for good cocktails, definitely make this a stop!
