Best street tacos I've ever had, and strawberry margarita was awesome as well. Great service.

I'm a Mexican food purist. Typically, a place that features burritos and brings you nachos with…read moremedium salsa up front is not pure. And La Fiesta made me think, maybe more of these places are actually good Mexican food, but they cater to the clientele. Because I read through the whole menu, through various feature dishes and specialties, and finally the chef's specials on the back page. And peppered throughout, I found hints of the real thing. I ended up getting #67 - four assorted tacos with different meats, I chose flour tortilla. They came out super authentic, delicious, loaded with meat. Wonderful variety of flavors. The side of guac I asked for was packed, great consistency, mostly avocado - because yes, I've had it runny and full of cucumbers or onions etc. This was real Mexican food, and I think it's a mindset "if someone wants to order our authentic specialties, that's great. If not, they'll get the American foods we know how to prepare." Not much else - service was friendly enough, place was rather sparse both in decor (at least no overdone Mexickitsch) and attendance but I get that it's Sunday night, and most other places were closed. I gather that's a Sunday thing in the South, and I'm grateful I found and chose La Fiesta over anything else that might have let me in.

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Prices were incredible and the food was pretty good…read more They have renamed the restaurant to "El Mariachi". We discovered it on our drive up to Tuscaloosa. I ate a chimichanga with rice and a good helping of chips and queso. The service was good and I like the general feel of the restaurant with fun paintings on the wall that made for a nice ambiance.

When you walk into this restaurant, you are greeted with a very colorful and inviting vibe. You…read morestart thinking, this is going to be good. Out comes the menu and some chips & salsa. This is your first sign that something is amiss. You're hungry so you overlook the fact that the chips are from a bag and the salsa tastes just like Pace Picante salsa. (note: neither are made in the restaurant.) You look at the menu and all the choices. You choose something basic like say... a beef enchilada and beef hard taco. The meal shows up quick enough but it doesn't look very appetizing. You then notice, there's no hot sauce (Cholula or Tapatio) at the table. Weird but you move on. You take your first bite of the beans & rice and think, this is good beans/rice. Then... you take your first bite of the taco OR enchilada and the wheels come off the wagon. Once again, store bought. Every single thing on your plate is from a can or from a store bought package. The taco shells are from El Paso or even Taco Bell. The corn tortilla on the enchilada is NOT even warmed up... it is raw and from the store. The meat is this bizarre mash of ground beef(?) that seems to common in Alabama Mexican restaurants. Just gross and tasteless. Once again seemingly right from Taco Bell. When the waiter stated (rather than asked), "everything was good" we looked at him in disbelief and the Mrs says "no, everything was not good. Everything was store bought. Not one thing on that plate was made by hand here in the restaurant. I know, I am Mexican and this is NOT Mexican food." The waiter stood there is disbelief giving us a sideways glance but he never denied it. He just said thank you for coming in and left with our plates. Now you regret coming to Las Fuentas Mexican Restaurant because you could have gotten better food from Taco Bell for about the same price. Go somewhere else.
