The most popular tapas restaurant in Sarria. Expect to find a line of 10-15 people outside every evening, but it moves fast. Even though it was super busy, we got helped pretty quickly, the service is 10/10 with friendly staff that actually chat with you. It's a simply decorated restaurant, with enough tables inside and outside to sit about 50 people. The patatas bravas are to die for!! The salsa picante is amazing pair it with a vermouth and you've got yourself a proper sobre mesa meal! We ordered 2-3 patatas bravas, and 2 vermouths each, and our bill was less than €20. Came here after visiting the Camp Nou. It was highly recommended. We were cutting it close because they close at 4pm for siesta (reopens around 6:30). We arrived with 15 minutes to spare. The guy at the door didn't seem happy to see a group of 14 pull up so close to closing time, but he sat us. The inside was full plus it's very small. We sat outside. The is a neighborhood joint. Most of the nearby businesses also shut down for siesta. Menu consists of tapas with a few combination plates. Our server quickly took our orders. Food and beer came out even faster. They pride themselves on their patatas bravas. Believe the hype. They were incredible. The croquetas were also delicious. Everything we ordered was great. The meatballs were the kids' favorite. The only thing you need to know about Bar Tomas is patatas bravas. Their patatas are like crack, something amazing to behold, and incomparable anywhere else in the world. We would frequently wander over between classes to feast on their greasy goodness doused in awesome bravas sauce. Apparently now it's become known in tour books, which saddens me. While I am sure the business is great for them, I can't imagine cameras and fanny packs fitting well with the grease and dirt. A friend said you can't go to Barcelona without having the patatas bravas, but couldn't remember the name of the place he had them. So after doing some internet research I found Casa Tomas and vowed to make my way there. It took us forever and a day to get there by train, (we took the long way) but it was so easy to find once we got off the train, and so worth the hike to get there! My boyfriend didn't understand why I was so hell bent on going until he tasted them, and he still says they are the best things we at the entire time we were in Spain, and we had some really amazing food! What the place lacks aesthetically, it makes up for in flavor because the sauce that they put on the potato's is out of this world! BRAVAS!!! I just moved back to the U.S. from Barcelona and I'm always dreaming of Bar Tomas and craving the patatas bravas in a bad way! Luckily I married a Catalan from Barcelona, so when we go back to Barcelona to visit his family I can and WILL go to Tomas for bravas. Tomas is a bit out of the way, but my husband had a moped, which made it much easier to get to. Even if you have to take public transportation or a taxi, do it! The bravas are the reason to go, but try the butifarra too because it's delicious. Also, there's an old man that works there and he's always yelling and seems like such an angry guy, but it's actually really funny. The place is never empty! When you're finished, take a left out of the bar and walk up the hill. There's a bakery on the corner with AMAZING desserts. We went there every time we had Tomas! read more

The legendary Tomàs in Sarrià is permanently packed out with people in need of the ultimate local comfort food - patatas bravas. It must be said, Tomàs's bravas are among the best on the planet. The sauce is a pitch-perfect combination of a sweet and spicy hot red flavour (recipe presumably top-secret) and the right amount of mayonnaise, served separately. On this occasion, I must be frank, I felt that the potatoes themselves were a little lacking in firmness; perhaps even that dreaded adjective "soggy" could be applied to them. But on the whole, these are superb bravas. And the atmosphere is great - families around tables, friends sipping beer and tucking into great platefuls of potatoes, wiping the sauce from their chins with glee and a glint in their eyes, betraying the slight guilt that comes with this entirely hedonistic pastime. And I'm not talking about lunch, no - this is 1pm, peak aperitif time on Sunday 28th of December. Remember, these people have been eating solidly for four days!
